Also Palpatine wouldn't have risked fucking with her because it would have made Anakin turn on him immediately. He was the one that brought them together after all so that he would be able to use his feelings for her as leverage.

Some opposition was useful up until a point for a facade of democracy, and her being a senator with a target on her back was a huge source of stress in Anakin's life, and Sheev wanted him to be constantly on edge.
