Alfred was a shining ray, and the back/forth between him and Uhtred gave the show soul. But then he died and his kids were a bore. All in all, above average show.

>>222330789I can forgive Uthred teaching the Anglo-Saxons how to do a shield war for the benefit of the audience. Enough though it's not that hard of a concept to grasp that a tight formation is going to be more dependable then just zerging at the enemy. With the shield wall being the Anglo-Saxon bread and butter for the past 400-500ish years even back when they were the Angles and the Saxons it's just strange narratively that they'd just forget how to do it.
