You could probably make a feature length AI animated movie right now. Pretty sure one will come out later this year. Whether it's worth the effort, I doubt it. It'll be an interesting novelty, but at the end of the day pulling a slot machine for usable footage is just less efficient than actually making a 3D animated movie by hand.We might see more AI generated stuff in live action movie I have a feeling it might become to CGI effects what CGI is to practical effects: The alternative that everyone agrees looks worse, but nevertheless becomes the standard, because it's cheaper.

Movies aren't gonna go anywhere. Clips and sketches are, at the end of the day, just a completely different medium, they don't compete with film any more than film is competing with music.

The real bottleneck is that no one's found a way to automate editing, which is still a pain in the ass and a hard filter for anyone who wants to lazily make a movie. Since no one wants to sit at the computer for hours and check all the footage makes sense. Just hang out in AI threads. Despite it technically being a button push, you can still see some users get genuinely frustrated when the machine doesn't do what they want to do. After all, the point of AI is zero labor, and AI users aren't exactly known for their patience. So, ironically, I think we need to first achieve general intelligence, or at least close to general intelligence, for the system to be able to independently edit a movie to the request's desire. I don't think LLMs are the right route, but I think in 3 years' time we should at least be able to comfortably generate 10-minute-long media almost independently.
I'll be honest; I'm cautiously optimistic about AI.The notion of being able to create any movie that I want, with any dialogue that I want, with any actor or actress, in any scenario, in any genre, and any thing I could possibly conjure is thrilling. To be able to make movies at all with cinema tier quality and make movies of my own, something I'm sure many here have dreamt of doing, is very exciting to me as well. All from the ease and convenience of our finger tips, we will be able to create kino of our own catering to any possible topic and idea we could have. I know I'm probably getting ahead of myself but the speed in which this stuff has become sophisticated is incredible. Fuck the Oscars. Wait until /tv/ has its own award show threads for our own kinos. I'd much rather tune in to that.
