I've always gotten the impression he has a fairly dim view of humanity, yeah. When he isn't cock-chugging the US military, most of his "heroes" are the most vain, greedy, obnoxious, narcissistic, psychotic retards you'll see. That works for a satire like Pain & Gain where the Sun Gym Gang are obviously meant to be viewed as horrendous, but even then the movie's not particularly sympathetic to any of their victims. And then there's Transformers and the gradual degradation of Optimus Prime, whose time on Earth and exposure its people renders him increasingly vengeful and bloodthirsty with each successive film. If he's not a full-blown misanthrope he's certainly a deeply cynical person.
