Reminder medieval english peasants:

>washed themselves, scrubbing in water and salt daily ("nEveR tOoK bAtHs" is false context)
>ate good healthy food including fish, cheese, daily fresh bread, plentiful vegetables in flavorful well-prepared stews with natural flavorings like onions, peppers, and local herbs (expensive rare silk road spices aren't a requirement for good food), and tasty pies. also probably poached the occasional bird or rabbit
>knew how to cook well and didn't just boil meat until it was rubber. bad cookshops were fined, even
>washed their clothes often and disinfected it
>wore bright colors whenever they could get them. dark blues and blacks were seen as colors of extremely high status as they required repeated dyings.

Dyed clothes were more expensive and couldn't be made at home.
Peasants most likely wore natural colors most of the time, and maybe had some nice clothes for special occasions.
You wouldn't want to get your nice clothes dirty.
The wealthy would be colorful though, as a show of status.

>>
>>222342966
While jews, freemasons and protestards are naturally first to blame, you should keep in mind that the continental Europe used to have that very aggressive thing called Ottoman Empire at the doorstep and the good Sultan poured a lot of gold in his own propaganda campaign.
>>
>>222342920
Also, this may come as a shock to certain people, but they did not like to die in agonizing pain due to a tooth infection, so they regularly cleaned their teeth with toothpicks and a piece of cloth or sponge dipped in water/wine

this graph is related to the sales of fabrics in Bruges, you could argue that most actual farmer peasants didn't buy fabrics at the city market but there were also a lot of people who were far from being rich that would still wear colorful clothes
>>
>>222340772
Shut the fuck up, kike
>>
>>222342879
It was like wearing a coat but cheaper and easier to make, and served additional utility. A cape could also be used as a blanket (which you would need if you were going to be traveling more an a day, which was most traveling), or used to bind something up as a sack for carrying things. Some capes were purely for fashion but the reason that even peasants would wear them was because they were genuinely just useful.
>>
>>222343193
They didn't wear expensive dyed clothes. They wore inexpensively dyed clothes. Some colors were plentiful and cheap. Deep blues for example were expensive so you wouldn't see many peasants wearing those, but some reds, oranges, yellows, greens were common. It was more the case that, the deeper and vibrant the dye, the more wealthy you were, but they didn't all just wear dirty brown. Purple of course would have been avoided though for obvious reasons.
>>
>>222342297
And the reason a woman is in charge? Because if you don't hire her then jews subtract your ESG score, and also sue you for discrimination
>>
>>222343193
They wouldn't wear expensive dyed clothes everyday, they would wear expensive dyed clothes sometimes. They would wear CHEAP dyed clothes every day.
Do you have any idea how easy it is to make simple dyes? You can make dye from just boiling down flowers, anon. SOME dyes needed to be imported and were thus expensive, but a lot of shit was stuff a peasant could make themselves as long as they spent an afternoon picking the right plants and had a big pot.
>>
>>222343193
Because people didn't parade everywhere in gray, shit stained workwear meant for the fields.
Guests? Good clothes. Church? Good clothes. Business in the town? Good clothes. Marketplace? Good clothes. A festival with a lot of drinking and fucking? Good clothes.

Eurolean peasants would have at least one pig that they would raise throughout the year and then slaughter the pig, cook and eat the pork, even the blood.

In the Byzantine-Roman realms, peasants were also allowed to hunt rabbits and smaller game on reserved forest areas that usually belongs to Byzantjne-Roman nobles. They could not hunt larger animals since hunting was a sport that was exclusive to the upper Byzantine-Roman class who were the guys who could afford horses and armor for battle.

People are absurdly off base about this and say its modern, recent wokeness.

Its Enlightenment ideology and Protestantism. This has been going on virtually since the middle ages themselves. The Enlightenment and most of its attendant ideological currents(the currents that led to liberalism, Protestantism, modern science) had to be justified at first, to make an active case because none of this was the default yet, and as they became more established to advance a narrative and mythology to entrench and further themselves. Intrinsic to all of this was an interest in making the midevil era the negative counterexample to the modern era, to shit on the pre-modern and pre-enlightmenment to make a favourable comparison. We're talking about a tendency that goes all the way back to the 1500s. Throughout the 1500s, the 1600s, every century since, to the extent the enlightenment and its offshoots had taken hold, they defended themselves and attempted to go further with the idea that the midevil era was so so bad and aren't you lucky our ideas have come along and saved you from it.
>>
>>222342966
Because they hated jews and therefore had to have their entire history and culture "revised" by jewish academics.
>>
>>222347198
And on the religious side, to the extent Protestants in later centuries could play up how bad and corrupt midevil religion was, what they were actually doing was shitting on Catholics because that was the era before protestantism came along and started putting things right. And, it follows, the catholics that were still around were backwards and dangerous.

There's been back and forth on this, cultural currents in both ways, romanticisation of the midevil period since to be sure. But any current attempt to portray the middle ages as maximally tyrannical and awful shitsville is just a continuation of a 500 plus year old tradition.

Between the two I think the pro-midevil side is right in that the material culture was much nicer than these portrayals, that violence and the most egregious social abuses were not as common as a "gritty" portrayal of the era might have you believe, but that in terms of lived reality people who are very down on the middle ages are closer to correct. Subsistence farming in a social context where you have virtually no power is a living hell, quite reliably throughout history, and that's how pretty much everyone lived back then.

Yeah and now instead of spending 15 years wiping grandma and grandpa's wrinkly shitty assholes while they delusionally attempt to roll out of the bed you put in the living room (it's also the kitchen and your bedroom) you can instead afford to put them in a healthcare facility.

Yeah, old people used to be taken care of by families. Guess what that means, retard? Families used to have to take care of their old people. That means you. Have you ever spent years waking up every 2 hours in the night to roll someone over so they don't get pressure injuries?

Families would take care of their old meaning more than one person not just you. Also gym culture and fitness will change how people age. My grandparents were demented and could hardly move from the bed to the recliner by the time they died. My parents are 70 and doing marathons and cycling up and down mountains. I'm lifting heavy, running and doing a lot of core and tendon work to stay mobile for as long as possible. Sure you can still get a stroke or something but that's what family is for.

They want the postives the they had back then without the negtives. I mean personally id be ok with we had a work schedule 7 on 7 off, 10 or 12 hour days. thats 180ish days off a year compared to 104 days (if you get weekends off) plus the usual 2 weeks off which is really 10 business days off so 114 days compared to 180 days. Hell lets make it a full month which is then just 20 business days off so 124 days off compared to 180 days off.

What do you consider sexual debauchery, though? The difference was that the seedier side of life wasn't celebrated, hence why it was rarely documented, which has given rise to the misconception that it never happened in the first place. I agree that cultures that publicly celebrate and endorse degeneracy are worse, simply because they worship degeneracy like a god, such as the modern West's fixation on homosexuality, but regardless a peasant was still fucking his wife up the arse and Romans were still raping little boys and the aristocracy of every time period were still engaging in orgies and adultery.

Stop pretending that stuff was the norm. Outliers exist. Since some romans buggered boys at specific times during its entire run doesn't mean that the entirety of the culture was about buggering boys or that it was considered normal at every time. Greece, which modern tards always point to as an ancient gay mecca, had laws at certain points to punish homosexuality. I think Athens had a law about if a gay man was caught being gay he had a live fish shoved up his ass and eas paraded around as a humiliating punishment.
What you are doing (and what most retards do) is like judging the entirety of American culture and history based on a single viewing of game of thrones.

The nuclear family chuds idolize is a very new post-industrial concept foisted on humanity to break up the real family unit so that people could be isolated and exploited. You're supposed to stay in the same house as your parents and grandparents, move your wife in, and have kids in the same house. And your younger brothers should be living real close by. Your sisters should be with men you vetted who are also nearby and ready to assist you (and you them). My problem isn't the idea that they're colored, it's that the colors will always look like something that was dyed the day before. The colors are always so bright when they do stuff like this it's distracting. This isn't just a problem with medieval stuff, someone will take out their old uniform from World War 1 and it looks it was made yesterday. I don't know why they can't make something look old/worn but also have color but I'll take the sackcloth hairshirt bullshit if they're going to wear clothes as bright and never worn before as OPs.

>>
>>222347604
>change how people age.
Lmao. Lol. Everyone eventually hits the limit anon. Your parents will reach theirs later but they will be infirm just like everyone else.
My Grandfather was a spry salt of the earth nail biting son of a bitch until he reached 82. Then when taking care of him with my mother he fractured his shoulder trying to lift himself off the toilet in his room we made up for him. Then a few days later after changing his diaper we went to move him with bedsheets and the placement of his elbow shattered what remained of his shoulder. The howls, curses, crying and begging both times was one of the most horrible things I had to endure.
Taking care of your elderly loved ones isn't easy, pleasant or satisfying. You will have to watch as they degenerate before your eyes and lose all of their dignity. Most people won't be equipped to deal with that, most people will never wish to put their own children through that.

Things were redyed too. 10 Different color patches on a peasant clothes are meme. Lazy costume staff. You can make 100 pieces of clothing for extras take some of them put them denim aging machine and every 5 min open the machine and take out some of the clothes. After and 70-80 min you will have 15+ different level of wear and tear. Spartacus TV series had that is is not this hard. About the statues - every warhammer 40k or gundam painter can paint 10 statues that look different levels of "old", this is literally 101 of airbrushing. Look at some models they can make it look naturally aged no problem. It is not a problem to make something look like it was painted 100 years ago. This is fraction of the the production cost it will not even be 0.1% of what they spend on ads.

Yeah but the only part of the middle ages that hollywood ever bothers to portray is pretty much exclusively the 12th-14th centuries. I cannot think of a single movie that takes place around the migration period, the carolingian renaissance, the norman conquests, the reconquista, the hussite wars, the gothic wars, or really any part of medieval history besides the black plague, the inquisition, and vaguely the hundred years war. On that note the inquisition is also always portrayed as comically evil when in reality they were usually stopping peasants from lynching someone. I guess they do viking shit sometimes but that's always treated as a very seperate thing.

You people think you're smart but you're not. Modern day hunter-gatherer bands spend about 2 days per week total on subsistence. The entire rest of their time is spent doing basically whatever they want and just hanging out with their family and neighbors. They live in mud huts surrounded by lions and hyenas and all the shit you people like to say would instantly kill anyone who would try to live like that, but that sort of thing has shown to be quite rare. Depending on the specific place it's comparable to your odds of getting hit by a car. They also don't keel over from diseases every day like you people suggest, they're adapted to their environment and know methods for treating most injury and illness. All you have to do to disprove you hysterical fucks is just look at the people who still live like that today and see they're perfectly fine and happy, or at least no worse off than people in industrial urban environments.

I think I've cracked the code: MONKS.

When people think medieval, they think of medieval monks. And monks were dressed in simple drab colors or black but that was for religious reasons. They wanted to show that they were living simple lives in CONTRAST to the rest of society.

Somewhere along the lines the popular conception is that everyone walked around dressing like a monk did. Because medieval = simple and backwards right?

as someone that lived in one of those houses, it's not as rosy as you think. Your entire life is controlled by your grandfather, grandmother, and then by your mom and dad. Your uncles and aunts are always fighting with their parents and your parents. Your cousins are always fighting with each other, with you, with their parents and their grandparents. Constant competition, gossip, undermining and crab bucketing. If someone eats one grain of rice more than someone else it will be accounted for.

You literally can't be your own man and start a family in that environment. You hated being 19 and having your parents lording over you? imagine being 33 and having them make decisions on how you raise your family. If the nuclear family is a product of capitalism, then I'm a capitalist. It might the reason why capitalism is successful because sure as shit you can't have innovation when you work for your dad and he insists on doing everything the way his great grandfather did. I've seen it first hand, young men with good ideas browbeaten into submission because "you're in my home, working in my company, you should shut up and be grateful I let you".

Because they don't want you to know that you live a far more joyless life than any medieval peasant ever has, they have to make it look even grayer and blander than the modern world already does to convince you that things were worse back then.

Jewish usury was thriving in the Middle Ages actually. European nobility gave the jews quite a lot of leeway.
>>
>>222353837
I'm not quite sure what "absolute low income" is supposed to mean or where that stat is coming from, but the idea that the vast majority of people in the 50s were below the poverty line is blatantly false. Actual historical and economic data shows that roughly 25% lived below the official poverty line and that number kept shrinking into the 60s.

The goofiest shit is that there's no law against leftist communes. In fact they've tried many times. They collapse because of infighting, how hard it is, or some dictator goes on a power trip.
>>
>>222354330
I don't think scapegoating makes for leeway. Besides, the italian banks would use loopholes to get around restrictions.
>>
>>222354388
Actually, the real ironic part is that most of the successful phalanteries were typically religious in nature or were lead by a charismatic leader.
>>
>>222348427
That isn't really a meme. People literally do this in these gay little communes. The main thing is that it's just mindless hedonism. As Marx said, hunting in the morning, meandering about worthless theory in the afternoon.
>>
>>222354494
Oh, I know that part. I think you just need some kind of shared belief system that has some kind of top down hierarchy for this to work. Leftism is too much about the egos and needs of the individual to actually work. ie Leftism is appealing because they're a rebel against society. Suddenly asking them to sit down and farm or knit sweaters is anathema to it, and their impulses tell them to wreck shit and endlessly complain or conspire against the POWERS THAT BE. ie endless revolutionarism.
>>
>>222354293
I don't think you would find the peasant life very joyful, though a real peasant, conceivably, might.
>>
>>222354601
There's some kind of odd psychology with these people since they're so interested in THEORY. They just want some kind of religion with holy texts they can argue about for infinity. Theory are just tools, and can be discarded or changed as needed and there's never going to be the perfect guru making the perfect THEORY ever. So they're largely chasing phantasms.
>>
>>222354494
You mean phalanstery? I think those were always socialist in nature as in they were created by communists in the 1800s
>>
>>222354659
>Theory are just tools, and can be discarded or changed as needed and there's never going to be the perfect guru making the perfect THEORY ever.
Hence they meander about theory. The thing is that their theory largely just boils down to interpretations of shit like dialectical materialism, which really only has any magnetism via living in a capitalist society. But why wpuld anyone talk about this shit when there aren't any capitalists or private property to moan about? The struggle is the only thing giving meaning to their lives and they just don't see it. People will have nothing to talk about but their petty personal problems which total material equality cannot fix. It's quite sordid and worthless in my opinion.
>>
>>222354676
These socialists could, however, be religious as well and be lead by charismatic leaders. After all, neither of these things contradict communal ownership. And phalansteries is the plural form of phalanstery.

True, though society today isn't that colorless I think. Depends on where you live I guess

Sure, though also, not that much food security to begin with.

Can't argue with that, though christendom was ideally envisioned as a single unified empire that had nothing to do with race.

Congratulation, you now have a bottle of wine less and a piece of clothing that smells like booze and looks used by someone who got stabbed in the neck. Also the color turns dark reddish very fats and would eventually become a shitty brown after a while. Believe me I tried it

I wouldn't say every waking hour. They ate and they prayed and told stories, but people do neglect to mention household chores. There's also just the question of when does labor end and leisure begin? Today, we think fishing is a pastime activity. Did a peasant also like fishing on a placid lake? Can you like doing what you do?

literally all of those things exist today arguably in worse form but since they have been legitimatized through fugazi such as "rights", "state", "constitution" by a legion of lawyers rather than by Dei Gratia it's ok I guess LMAO

>Corvée is a form of unpaid forced labour that is intermittent in nature, lasting for limited periods of time, typically only a certain number of days' work each year. Statute labour is a corvée imposed by a state for the purposes of public works

>Americans work almost four months out of the year just to pay their combined federal, state, and local tax burdens. The concept is popularly known as Tax Freedom Day, which represents the date by which the average earner has made enough money to pay off their total tax bill for the year

So just like owning land in America works right now.

So still having a wife and kids then.

>No
Yes, we're taxed on income, then again on every purchase we make, we're also taxed on any property we "own" and those taxes fluctuate constantly based on the value of your neighbors houses, which is totally insane.

I guess that's true

Where does this idea that peasants worked less come from? You know they had to work at home as well right? Tending their own crops, managing their own livestock as well as a shitload of bullshit chores and maintenance we dont really have to put up with now. Or do you guys just not consider that work?

It comes from like half the year being Christian holidays and there being no agriculture to worry about in the winter. My grandma had a farm including livestock. It's not that bad although not everyone is cut out for it. I found it enjoyable, so not really work.
>>
>>222355794
Some retard eyeballed the minimum work to avoid starvation and made a YouTube video. Now retards believe that peasants worked like 30 days each year.

Every sterotype of pre-modern barbarism is actually from doctors. Doctors used to see it as an insult if you asked them to clean their tools before use. Up to the 80's doctors thought babies couldn't feel pain and would operate on infants without anesthesia leading to thousands of babies a year dying from physical trauma. Doctors were the ones pushing heroine and and cigarettes on people calling them healthy. It's always been doctors.
