Did it happen to you yet?
>>
>>222346182
no because I was never "in"
>>
>>222346182
The big difference this time is we're right.
>>
>>222346182
It happened when the first Avengers movie came out.

On the internet, yes, it kind of has.
I don't use a lot of social media, but lots of games that I used to play, with server lists seemingly populated 24/7, are now completely empty, and lots of YouTube channels and Twitch channels I follow have not streamed or uploaded in years, and I'm never at the forefront of memes and trends, anymore, it used to be that I'd be among the first to see these spawn and slowly spread out, now, I'm completely oblivious to them.
It's like the entire internet has become Facebook, in a way, in the sense that everyone has already moved on to something else, and yet, the machinations keep on turning to a hollow audience.
>>
I went to the airport and the speaker was playing oldies from the 2010s, I didn't recognize any of it
>>
I'm a zillennial but I don't feel "confused" by zoomer or alpha internet culture because mentally I've internalized that society is always changing, so I don't cling to anything
>>
2011 - upgraded my computer to play skyrim at the best possible settings and was really disappointed, to this day I can't really get into the game despite trying a lot
My top 10 movies end in 2005, im not even that old, im starting to think maybe it's a genuine lack of quality
>>
>>222346182
It will never happen to me. I'm not a chud faggot that hates anything new.
>>
>>222346182
No, I follow teenage girls on tiktok to keep up with the slang

When broccoli headed zoomers got addicted to tiktok I realized it had happened.
When they started talking about how Tung Tung Sahur was in Fortnite and I had no idea what they were talking about.

You're an outsider at first, then, you familiarize yourself with it, and ride it's peak for a while, and finally, you're an outsider once more.
Except the second time around, you're not a young kid anymore, looking up to these mysterious older figures that have this aura of coolness and wisdom surrounding them.
It's a bit more like when you stop hanging out with a friend, and now, enough time has passed that you're not even sure they're the same person anymore.
You've not done much with your life, and they're doing something else.
Would they care to talk to you about the things you used to talk about?
Would you have anything new to say if that's the case?
Would the two of you enjoy it like you use to?
>>
>>222346977
Yeah, same here.
Vine happened and I completely missed it, then, TikTok happened and I didn't want any part of it, nonetheless, apparently that's the direction *it* went.

"Pop culture" hasn't moved on, it has ceased to exist

There's a simple thought experiment I like: who's the most popular musician in the world, right now?

This. If you took today's popular songs and played them to people of 30 years ago, they wouldn't be surprised or outraged.
If you took the songs of 1996 back to 1966, people might be shocked or surprised.
If you took the songs of 1966 to 1933, people would be surprised and confused

Sports arenas play music from 40 years ago, but sports arenas of 40 years ago did not play much music from 1946

I don't know, current internet culture is the same as it was years ago, just a slightly more deranged version of it, I believe culture has already peaked and there's no going forward anymore. The fact that wojak or feels guy is still a thing, same as pepe, means exactly that
Am I into it or "hip"? No but I get it, I just think most of it is retarded

I'm a 29 year old zillennial

When I was a kid I thought it was stupid how Futurama only showed pop culture that were popular in the 70s-90s. Like entertainment had been frozen along with Fry. Turns out I was the stupid one because entertainment is now frozen in time with no signs of reversing.

I went to a mall nearby a couple years ago and they were selling 90s nostalgia shit which I found funny because 90s shit was just nostalgia for late 60s/early 70s counterculture hippy shit. Still waiting for the short shorts with low waist lines to come back, haven’t seen JNCOs or Kikwear pants so I guess we aren’t at the late 90s nostalgia yet

Like 5 years ago when I asked a kid what games she played on her Wii-U and she corrected me with "Weeyou? This is a Switch, what's a Weeyou?" I felt so out of touch, I didn't realize the Wii-U was obsolete by that point

yea pretty much. I used to think my dad was dramatic about the movies I dragged him into as my parental guidance in the 00's being abominations. some of the highlights being the matrix trilogy, freddy got fingered and borat(he had a jewish gf). ultimately he was right, though. but not for the reasons he foresaw(immorality). it was cape shit.

When I was a kid that always bugged me too. Like people 1000 years from now would give a fuck about Pamela Anderson.
>>
>>222346182
Ironically it doesn't actually happen anymore because the generations are bleeding together. There should be multiple post-millennial "generations", but there aren't. We gave it a shot for a bit with labels like "gen z" or "gen alpha" but we don't even pretend to differentiate anymore, a zoomer today is the same as a zoomer from 2016, and a kid in 2036 will be a zoomer as well.
>>
>>222346182
Not really because I thought a lot of the stuff "in my day" was either gay or stupid at the time, like spiking your hair and rap music. Not saying I hated *everything* but I never cared about liking popular stuff just to fit in or whatever.

I didnt like popular stuff either but I knew about it until I didn't. I'll never forget how fucking old I felt when I heard a teenager call The Matrix "old" in like 2008. To me it was still "that newish techno action movie" but to that kid it was old news compared to Transformers or Marvel

How in the actual fuck. The Wii U came and went with almost no fanfare from Nintendo's own fans at the time, never mind the rest of the normgroids who don't follow vidya at all.
