>there are people that will look you in the eye and tell you that Elden Ring has good world designAh, yes. A cliff with a thousand foot perilous drop in the middle of nowhere on top of a rocky cliff face. This looks like a good place to build a town of 12 people with a single rickety bridge.Did these places get designed like this prior to the world going tits up? Or did all of this happen and then someone decided to build a cathedral on the edge of a giant chasm. It feels like either or both at once depending on where you look. It doesn't feel like they thought about it.
>>222348047OK but what do you think about Donald Trump
That is in Liurnia, which is sinking into the ground. It was not built like that originally.
Elden Ring sucks but isn't that a building with a magical barrier in a magically decaying swamp
>>222348047Looks cool to me, not everything has to be
>>222348139Guess the cliff just happened to work out like that to produce a sick wallpaper.Dark Souls was always about a world fucking up and falling apart but it used to mean walking around in a big structure with a chunk of it ripped out.It legitimately feels like they've been replicating this game for so long that they don't even know why it's there. They designed a sick anime battleground and then tried to make it make sense.
>>222348047most of japanese media is gay pseud shit, elden ring is the epitome of that
>>222348047Don’t shit talk Liurnia of the Lakes
>>222348047>>222348435You suck at environmental storytelling. The entire region is riddled with evidence of geographic activity. A past gravitational calamity befell it in the past, which is why it’s shaped like a bowl, and why there are ruins of civilizations below it, having been sunk into the ground by gravity controlling monstrosities that poetically “stole their night sky”. There are also night skies and stars seen underground. There’s also a massive pillar (pic) underground the academy. This is why it hasn’t sunk. It was tactically constructed.
> There are also night skies and stars seen underground. Possibly artificial, possibly a consequence of the gravitational space bugs bringing the stars with them. The nature of stars, and what they are, is left quite ambiguous, ranging from specks or motes of magic, to massive comets and alien space bugs called ‘malformed stars’ capable of taking out civilizations. In this world the stars appear to be dually associated with things that come from the sky, even meteors, not just celestial bodies like the sun.
The starry amber, or ‘glintstone’, that the academics study and utilize also behaves a lot like a silicon based cancer, taking over the body and brain and mind over time like a parasite. But, of course, the insane academics think this is a good thing, or something to revere; their old mummified masters meditating as husks of themselves in their enigmatic silence. Pic related. It’s also from which all life descends. It’s all a nod to how all life comes from the stars, or stardust, and returns to the soil, or ash, in the end. The sap or amber of the Erdtree is just the other end of this causal regression.
>>222348435>Guess the cliff just happened to work out like that to produce a sick wallpaper.Go look up dracula's castle. When you're building a big fortification like that it is generally a good idea, when possible, to use natural geography and barriers to provide additional defenses. Building on the edge of a cliff means you have one side that is impractical to approach, and you can focus on the other sides of the fortification. Cliffs erode and eventually you have a dramatic picture of a castle that looks like it is almost hanging off the cliff itself instead of originally being built a ways off.
>>222348047it's not a town, it's a fortified academyalso it's magic, don't need to explain shit, looking cool >>> realism
