Anyone watch this show? Is it as good as the book, or is it teenslop

The atmosphere and tone are all over the place, which is especially bad because Bret Easton Ellis books are more atmosphere and tone than anything else. Events from the book that have a weight to them (discovery of bodies, disappearances, encounters with Robert Mallory, etc) fall completely flat, and the show feels more like Riverdale than it does like the book

The book is really good, but its more of a coming of age story with a horror background. Also it's incredibly gay.
