I refuse to watch another capeshit film until they start making standalone, self-contained stories again. If I read that a capeshit film contains adverts for the next two entries in its cinematic universe, then I'm giving it a hard NOPE.

it honestly was pretty much standalone. like it did have other Marvel characters in it, but it felt much more like an actual comic book in that sense where it's just like Spiderman inhabits a living world full of other heroes and crosses paths with them sometimes, not like they were there explicitly to set up sequels. the only thing is Jean Grey is obviously soft launching mutants, but it really doesn't feel forced like this stuff normally does and she has a complete character arc within the movie.

I normally don't like capeshit but this felt like somewhat of a return to a higher standard. a lot more practical and location shooting, an actual costume that isn't CGI, visually doesn't look like a cheap tv movie, it lets emotional moments sit without undercutting them with quips. it's not a masterpiece or anything but it's easily the best superhero movie released in a long time.
