Evil Dead Burn was decent, I liked it more than Rise.
The deadites were the best part about it for sure. I think the weak part was yet again like Rise and The Mummy and the Hellraiser reboot etc. everyone has to start out miserable and get more miserable. It makes the MCs really unlikable because they're so damn mopey, whereas Ash wasn't that at all.

I was very mad when he cast for Wrath was revealed and Jim Cummings wasn't there. He was great in that director's previous flick and he is the one man that can pull off a somewhat competent , cocky yet also insecure and buffoonish vibe while also being a fit guy and also being cheap enough to get. He would be great in a more comedy-horror take on Evil Dead which we really need.

I’m continuing on my found footage kino quest after a brief 80s stop off to watch The Blob and From Beyond as a little palate cleanser. Both are pure practical effect nostalgia and are great.
I was going to watch [REC] next, but after reading through When Evil Lurks, I need to take a break on subs. Think I’ll watch the first two VHS movies today.
>The Bay
I’ll be honest, I thought it was fucking boring. There was hardly any parasite action and I went in expecting the hospital scene from Cloverfield but magnified. I got a documentary style film that had a cute but boring foid yapping most of the time.
>VHS94
The Wake was boring as fuck, but Ratman was good, The Subject was great, the vampire militia was meh, and the wrap up didn’t make a lot of sense. It was okay,
>>
>>222367267
I felt the same about The Bay, some people rate it really highly though.
I want another underground people found footage. Mole people, for sure. Raatma was decent but it needed more of a build up.

I liked Burn better on rewatch at home. Gained an appreciation for the action sequences. The main girl was pretty cool too - more memorable than the girl from Rise. Still though, Mia is the best of the last 3. Also, the music in Burn is so good, other than the fading in and out shit during the French Kiss and Headshot parts.

I honestly liked Burn more than AoD but I don't have the nostalgia for that film many here clearly have. Evil Dead II is also overrated when comparing it to the original and arguably best film of the series. An overrated 8/10 is still great though, don't get me wrong.
I haven't seen 2013 in a long time (double feature'd it with Green Inferno back when they came out) but I'd probably like it more now than I did back then.

>>222370202
Rise is the worst ED imo
>>
>>222370328
Evil Dead 2013 is a banger from beginning to end. The Directors cut amplifies it too - gives a bit more lines to the deadites, adds some jokes that they cut out, extends some gore scenes. Plus fixes a continuity error regarding 2 corpses. Oh and it adds another final scene.

I decorate around the house and then go pretty hard on the outdoor decorations. Lights, fog machine for Halloween night, full-size decorations in the yard, stuff on the porch, etc. Kids will probably stop by if you just do the bare minimum. Put a skeleton and a jack o lantern on the porch. During the coof I put a bowl of candy on the porch with a sign that said "please take one" or something like that and surprisingly the whole bowl didn't get stolen.

>>222372627
To me its only issue is the pacing, it drags at times. Other than that I really liked it, tonally I feel it achieves this balancing of the mundane domestic lives and the psychological complexes/latent violent urges that lurk beneath them, where everything is presented so matter-of-factly, so dispassionately. I don't know how to explain it but it feels like a uniquely and honestly bleak film, rather than a fake one; the bleakness doesn't feel forced despite the fact that it's taken to extremes.

>Ice Cream Man’s scariest allegory shows the kids dreaming a cloud-balloon animation of their massacres in which the victims have cartoon X’s for eyes. It’s a political version of the mysterious attacks in Hitchcock’s The Birds (Roth dares a parody of Hitchcock’s memorable jungle-gym gag).

>Roth implicates himself by playing Jared’s father, legatee of family corruption. Roth’s final fillip suggests that the murderous mob (his son’s generation) will eventually awaken and remember none of their terror — like true baby Bolsheviks.

Evil Dead needs a male lead again. One who isn't struggling with grief of some kind. That's part of what creates a natural comedy. It's just innately funny to see a man fight and often lose against super charged dead women.

Surprisingly not terrible. Not good, don't get me wrong. But the android is pretty hot and she gets naked and there are cool gorey deaths. Entirely what it promised.

but as far as remakes go, he wasn't cast to be the new Ash like everyone expected. But unlike real Ash he did save his sister though.

Evil Dead 2 > Army of Darkness > Evil Dead > 2013 > Rise > Burn

The direction and editing is borderline amateurish in Burn (there are like 2-3 good shots tops). The whole thing reeks of direct-to-streaming at times despite it being theatrical. Also it doesn't even remotely feel like Evil Dead, which has always had a campier element (even in the more serious ones), here the misery far outweighs any remote humor - even the deadites aren't as playful. The deadites are inconsistent in ability and power level, the lead is so one note and annoying, the overly CGI-ed end boss looked awful, the pacing is bizarre, it trying to connect to other films in the franchise was poorly done, it looks so damn dull etc... etc... only ED film Ill probably never rewatch.
>>
>>222377773
Jason goes to hell is severely underrated. I admit maybe I like it so much because I marathoned them all in like two days so I appreciated how it tried to do something different
>>

>>
>>222378418
Well it won't be unnecessary if the whole plan is to bring her back for Wrath.
>>
>>222378806
Wrath takes place in 1972 though. It's some kind of turbo-prequel to the original.

So unless they introduce more time-travel she's gonna have to come back in the next, next Evil Dead.
I'm all for them just making these movies every few years forever.
>>
>>222378806
But Wrath is supposed to be a prequel, so that won't work unless that Deadite specifically likes to possess mommys. And specifically a mom that looks like that exactly like Alyssa Sutherland.

Yeah and it also is a core part of the movie. As in, the characters are also experiencing the same tension as the audience. Who the fuck is the clown, why is he driven to kill, is he a man or a supernatural force?
It's a lot like Halloween, where characters in the film (particularly the docs) are always searching for why Michael kills, but he never speaks a word which is part of the appeal.

Horror and Halloween are about mocking and warning against evil.
When you see people say The Exorcist is "blasphemous" or whatever then you know you're talking to a brainlet, The Exorcist is one of the most successful explicitly Christian films ever. I've noticed there's two completely different takes of Deadite Mia looking out of the cellar hatch at the chick when she's about to cut her possessed hand off.

In the trailer, she's smiling sadistically like she's encouraging her to cut her arm off, but then in the final theatrical cut, she says something along the lines off "Don't cut it off, you little bitch!" or something along those lines. Personally, I liked "Cut it!" more.

Same. AoD has a kick ass poster that is burned into my brain alongside the Jason Goes to Hell poster because they were both advertised to hell and back when I used to read X-Men comics, but I just can't get down with AoD as a movie. It's way too fucking goofy, and if I can be brutally honest, it's not nearly as funny as it seems to think it is. I think that Ash as a character peaked in 2, where he had a quip or two, but was still mostly taking the situation seriously. He's a cartoon character after that point.

Freddy's Dead wins by default just because Freddy's actually in the thing. Even when "real" Jason shows up, I hate his scrotum head design, the giant muppet hands that grab him at the end are more goofy than scary, and the final money shot of Freddy's hand popping out the ground and grabbing the mask is ruined when you realize that one of the claws actually breaks off the glove when he grabs the mask.

I've been marathoning through Tales from the Crypt since I saw that they added it to Tubi, and I just got curious watching the episode that Arnold directed with William Hickey, and looked up how old he was when he died. He was only 69. I had that dude figured in his 80s.

He was also great in that "Cat from Hell" segment in Tales from the Dark Side movie. If I'm honest, I think that's the only part of that movie that I actually like.

yes, the time has come. the question is whether it's going to be like Gremlins 1, or jam full of out of touch pop culture goofs and centered around a Trump gremlin.

Banned movie.

Daniel Clamp as president of the USA and Gremlins in the White House would be kino but current year writers would make it insufferable with all the DRUMPFT BAD propaganda instead of the innocent fun themes in Gremlins 2
I'd still rather it be more like Gremlins 2, it's objectively better, simple as
Also it's strange it's supposed to be released next year but there's still no material whatsoever other than the usual vaporware for the last 30 years or just a confirmation saying "yeah we're making it"

The MC will be a girl/black kid who is a misunderstood genius, and Billy will be a shut-in loser who lives like a hermit alone with Gizmo because Phoebe Cates was accidentally killed in a Gremlin outbreak that happened offscreen between movies, so his grief and guilt caused him to shut himself (and Gizmo) off from the world.

The movie will end with Billy passing Gizmo on to the kid, and they'll give it a Toy Story 3 ending, with Gizmo saying "Bye, Billy" like he did in the first one. You know it will play out something like that.

It's sad we missed Phoebe MILF in a 00s sequel but perhaps for the better since it would probably followed the 00s trend of full garbo quality CGI
At least we can still have Phoebe GILF custom made by the Architectwould still be nice if she returned out of being a retired granny for G3
And yeah, Billy will probably have some cameo or just the classic humiliation ritual role for some old cast member especialy since he was never a famous actor in the first place so basically a literallywho for anyone that's not a Gremlins fan

I hope it's good.

It's allegedly supposed to be a Gremlins 1-esque horror movie, but it's possible executive meddling could try and make lighter. Horror is having a good moment culturally rn so a true Gremlins 1-type movie could do great.
It'll be such a bummer if they fuck this one up.

Isn't voicing Kate in the Lego Dimensions Gremlins DLC the one time Phoebe actually did a project while retired?

>Gremlins 2, it's objectively better
Anyone else prefer Gremlins 1? I love Gremlins 2 too but Gremlins 1 is a perfect horror film.

I much prefer 1. It's also a great Christmas movie. Right up there with Black Christmas for yuletide horror kinos.

>terrifier 3

Robert Siodmak the guy who wrote the old Wolf Man movie also invented the brain in a jar trope. I scored a couple of his brain in the jar thrillers in paperback.

Post your reviews when you get around to it, I'll probably get around to seeing it on Tuesday. I doubt it can be that bad, people weren't positive on Green Inferno but I liked that just fine.

NTA but it seems good besides the apparent AI animation shit. I love a lot of Roth's movies but it's sad to see him cheap out like that, though desu it seems like he was barely involved and didn't understand what the effects team was even doing. Maybe he should keep a better reign of his productions, he's getting shat on hard online for this and it could've been avoided.

Anyone else baking? If not I'll try to, but I haven't in a while and sometimes it acts fucky.

Harperfag gets shit on but he still posts.

Do people really think 2 is better? I liked the variety of gremlins, but it's not as good as 1.

Ok I'll try to

I'll bake

Personally Burn was the weaker of the trilogy, it oddly felt like someone copying Evil Dead. By no means a bad copy, like 7/10, but a copy nontheless

I found that both Weapons and Barbarian had alright starts with some good tense moments (the mom waltzing through the dark to the car, disappearing, and then sitting in the back seat) but both kinda fell off in the second half. Hopefully Resident Evil will be good all the way through

I gotta watch those last 2
