Pretty much this. The first one was a great cult comedy. Each one after got weaker.

Their albums were pretty fucking funny. Especially in their time. And their combination of comedy and music was pretty unique at the time and some of their music was actually pretty fucking bad ass.

They were funny when it was two dirtbag hippies doing vaudeville routines, not when it became "weed exists, laugh now" for 90 minutes. Up in Smoke still has bits that land sober. The sequels are mostly just bong resin.
