There was something deeply sinister about that whole genre of "look at this quirky genius!" shows that got big in the 2000's. They seemed to celebrating intellectualism, education, etc but the leads were portrayed as antisocial freaks who needed their trusty normie sidekicks to navigate social situations and learn basic life skills. 20 years later there are colleges closing all over the country, housewives with HS diplomas think they know more than doctors, people make fun of you for using a word they don't know, etc.
