Idea for a Star Trek miniseries: The Stargazer trial.
8 episodes at 40 minutes each, detailing the court martial, led by Phillipa Louvois, with Jean-Luc Picard as the defendant. 70% courtroom drama, 30% flashback scenes chronicling the Battle of Maxia.
Starring Tom Hardy as a 50 year old Jean-Luc Picard and Wrenn Schmidt as Philippa Louvois.
>>
>>222420804
Ah, yes, exploring strange new worlds and boldly going where no man has gone before... backwards in the timeline to waste a mini-series on a side plot!

No you retard. New Star Trek. New Enterprise. New crew, new exploratory mission. It's that simple chief.
>>
>>222420804
Axanar-tier faggotry. no.
>>
Post-VOY show about exploration with the captain being an Andorian descendant of Shran, played by Jeffrey Combs.
Y/N? Does the captain HAVE to be Human?
>>
>>222420849
I'm all for advancing the timeline. But please admit that there are bigger fish to fry. The ultimate goal is to push Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Discovery off-canon. You can only do so if you had a success that gives you some weight to pick that fight. Make it classsic TNG-era Star Trek: Heavy on dialog, action scenes without insufferable CGI, short cuts, or lens flares. Wait and capitalize on the success of this miniseries.
THEN go nuclear. Make a new Star Trek show, a proper one, like you have suggested and in the first episode, have some narrative tell that all of PIC and DIS were parallel universe horseshit.
>>
I dont want to see any Andorians in a new show unless they retcon Aenar and all that retarded troon shit

I'm of the opinion you start off with a big fresh "Next Next Generation" THEN you can do more laser-focused stories like DS9 that worldbuild and establish the canon (i.e. establish that Kurtzman Trek is non-canon).

Nah, if we get a prestige miniseries it needs to be about the occupation. Tell the stories of Adami in a labor camp, teenage Kira learning how to be a terrorist, and some sympathetic cardie who gets killed in act 3.
>>
>>222421232
I think he could pull it off. I mainly chose him because he would be 50 next year and he's British. But I am more than open on suggestions for a bigger casting.
Wrenn Schmidt, however, is non-negotiable.

>>
>>222421146
I am all for it. But I think it's more likely to secure funding for a miniseries than for an actually legitimate Star Trek (in the best meaning of the term) show that both advances the timeline and is actually well-written and intellectually engaging. I agree it is the ultimate goal, but in order to do so, a fan base would have to be established that can be used as leverage for any future project negotiations.

Alaska being #2 is interesting. Is that because a decent chunk of the population is only there due to research careers, which are statistically more likely to be Trekkers? Do Americans in cold, depressing environments gravitate to optimistic storytelling, in stark contrast to Europeans living in cold depressing places who seem to enjoy wallowing in misery?

Season 1 and season 2 of TNG is just like watching more TOS with a new cast which is what makes it the best 'trek
>>
>>222430868
its true
>>
>>222430868
They also had cozy music and a cast that truly cared. I’ll never forget that quote about Brent Spiner and Rob Bowman working their tails off to make Datalore the best episode it could be. Now actors actively hate their fans and tell them the franchise they love was never made for them.
>>
>>222430868
I am just now finishing watching TNG start to finish for the first time and it's very directly observable how it becomes less comfy over time.
>>
>>222430868
This isn't true.

The best parts of TOS had Gene Coon as the showrunner. He had the final say on scripts and ran the writer's room.
In TNG S1, Gene Roddenberry would get a script from a writer and then change everything about it. He had those rules which he used to notoriously butcher scripts -- no conflict on the ship etc.

Captain Kirk also isn't as much of a lecherous womanizer as people popularly seem to think. He gets to hug or kiss a leading woman of the given episode just about once, if that. They do not appear to get depicted with too much time together. Even if we allow that some stuff happens off-screen, they do not have much, if any time.

I don't know if I'd call Picard pretentious. He's a total snob, but he's very earnest about it. He doesn't read Shakespeare because he wants to be seen as a man of high culture, he actually enjoys Shakespeare. Point being that for all the virtue he preaches about, Picard proves he's really a man of virtue, and that's what makes him believable.
Despite being a much more profound character, I just prefer Kirk.

Leftists never enacted immigration policies.
That was the rightists.
Even by US retarded naming conventions you're resorting to again, the democrats were historically the anti-immigration party (look it up).

Until the Republicans managed to get their Manchurian candidate Bill Clinton (protege of George HW Bush that was more like his son than George W Bush) inti the white house (which George HW Bush helped orchestrate by checking his watch during the presidential 'debate').

And it was Bill Clinton the secret Republiclan stooge who, against the wishes of the democrats of the time, outsourced manufacturing to China by letting them into the WTO.

So much of this is forgotten history it's kinda sad. But that's the US edudatainment system for ya.

No, Klyden was a ship-wife and the writing focused on that. Reno and the fat lady are both working and the writers tend to focus on that.
That said the fat lady is basically a moclan, the writing did a better job than I expected of selling the jem/kling thing (still not great, my expectations were not high) but as a moclan she’s fuckin perfect.

It’s adulting, anon, and you’re going to have to do it some day.

If anon sees one gay thing, and then sees another gay thing 10 years later, he assumes the second thing must have caught the gay from the first thing.
I mean, Orville actually was gay before it was cool, and Paramount actually did have the advantage of watching how that and other shows panned out before they wrote their own (WAY SAFER) gay stories in Discovery, that might be what anon is trying to say.

I love him because he’s a shrill, emotional, self-absorbed cunt who is also relatable and entertaining. I thought the people from /stg/ were autistic, not retarded.

None of the social pressures or cultural contrivances which direct the modern gay man to act like a prissy faggot would be present in the 23rd century. Being gay would be so completely normalized, just like race, that you would be completely unremarkable.
There would be no sub-culture built around being gay. That only exists because you are still a fringe group and being a gay has not been totally normalized but by the 23rd century, absolutely.

So yeah, being some stereotypical modern gay man in STD makes no sense. Your argument makes no sense. Your calling him a "great character" makes no sense. And most of all, you calling the show "Discovery" means you're a NuTrek loving faggot with a room temperature IQ.

There is no hint of the existence of “gay culture” in Discovery, except perhaps in the way that the gay characters automatically form an adopted family around the trans kid (who was a genuinely bad character), they basically did it right there.
>None of the social pressures or cultural contrivances which direct the modern gay man to act like a prissy faggot would be present in the 23rd century
lol, you can’t be serious, have you seen the way Star Trek portrays straight people? Some sci-fi writers envision a “utopian” future where people turn into genderless blobs, but Gene was certainly not one of them, if anything I would prefer for writers to remember that Trek culture is based on the late 60s and diverges from our culture at that point.
I should also point out that there is nothing in std (feel better?) to imply that the stick up Stamet’s ass was related in ANY way to the dick up his ass, they are two completely different things as far as the writing was concerned. I’m not implying that all gay characters should be shrill self-absorbed cunts, I’m saying that I respect their decision to make a gay character who is ALSO a self-absorbed cunt, because that was certainly not the point where the fence was lowest. For my own part I’m pretty sure that gay men std going to be shrill cunts slightly more often than straight men (especially in Trek because of how it leans into old-timey gender conventions) but that conclusion isn’t supported by anything in Discovery.

I really enjoyed watching the original series and TNG. Are the series after TNG worth my time? I asked a colleague and he said these first two installments are Star Trek at their peak. They have their flaws, but DS9 has some of the highest highs, VOY finds its footing faster than the other Treks of its era and is probably the most consistent (so you'll know right away whether you want to continue or drop it), and ENT is like 50% trash 50% kino with most of the trash being the first 2 seasons.

>>
>>222448417
I got on their case for lying to me about Discovery, but it actually wasn’t them it was you, back then I didn’t understand how hard you guys were working to astroturf on 4chan. The actual /stg/ posters would tell me that Discovery was a good sci-fi action show and that it mostly just fails (in their opinion) as a continuation of Star Trek. Stuff like “Spock has a secret human sister and she got higher test scores than any Vulcan”, that’s bad, but then for the sake of discussion they would list up some other things (like Fred the synthetic) that were good additions to the lore. They were quality posters and that’s why you never gained much traction with them, you would try to talk like old Trek was based and redpilled or something and they would just laugh at you.
The same thing would happen in Tolkien’s threads, and in D&D threads, and sometimes with anime like in the meck threads, basically any time there is a continuation of something old there will be retards like you trying to pretend that the old thing was based and redpilled.

There are times in TNG where crew relations seem like fake smiles and sniping, even though I know that’s not what the writers intended, and it’s usually in situations where the lack of crew conflict doesn’t make sense (creating dramatic tension that the audience picks up on).

Gene Coon was showrunner of TOS S1 and the first half of S2, not Roddenberry.

Also Roddenberry had massively changed in those 20 years. He used to let sci-fi writers write, now he rewrote everything and fired writers left and right (lol)
