Every time anyone in Star Trek uses the transporter they die and their clone (with all their memories) is reassembled elsewhere
>>222447003In the episode where Barclay goes through the transporter he's conscious the entire time, how does this work?
>>222447064There are lots of episodes where people in the transporter are conscious.OP is a fag who thinks he's on to something.
>>222447064>>222447711See all these threads devolve into pure cope, The William Riker and Thomas Riker transporter cloning incident prove what OP said and all you transporter fags know it. It's a machine that kills you and prints a copy elsewhere, simple as. Anyone who's looked into the basics of the technology, the meta-physics, and the actual on screen Trek cannon will tell you the same thing. The transporter kills the original person and prints a new copy at the destination. All your cope about dreams while being transported is nonsense, hallucinations of a dying mind or hallucinations of a mind printed out of thin air who is new to this reality. Also Scotty being trapped in a transporter buffer for 75 years and having no knowledge of the passage of time also proves this. The original person is completely copied from matter into data which destroys the original physical person scanned. It's a destructive process. ALSO the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Our Man Bashir" (Season 4, Episode 9). Shows the dark truth of the transporter. All that remained was the raw data not physical particles, nothing but data in a computer bank, sure lots and lots of data but it's a copy of the original just like all the food on the replicator isn't real meat, it's 3D printed matter based on a complex data file. They all died the first time they energized. KEK, transporter fags can never accept the truth. /thread
It doesn't kill you, it turns you into energy and then back into material. A Caterpillar doesn't die when it turns into a goo, then into a butterfly.
>>222447969I'm not arguing with you, I just don't understand how there's no moment of unconscious if you're being de-atomized. Even in the episode that shows Barclay never losing a moment of consciousness he talks about how it takes you completely apart and puts you back together. Also, I never understood why they couldn't clone everyone who ever died on away missions by just using their last transporter information. Just keep dupes in the buffer in case of an accident. But it would probably violate the prime directive or some other dumbass Federation bullshit.
>>222447969What the hell are you doing with yourself?
>>222447711It’s just ancient trolling
Does Q die everytime he teleports? No? Fuck off nerd
>>222447003They don't. Their matter is converted to energy and beamed to another place to be reassembled. It can be used to clone but the orignal is there in the matter stream.
>>222447003Every time anyone in Stargate uses the gate they die and their clone (with all their memories) is reassembled in Canada.
>>222449715Q isn't alive, he's a robot.
>>222447003Actually, in Star Trek, the soul is a tangible and proven to exist thing. Therefore the cloned body is inhabited not by memories but the same soul.
>>222449715No, but everybody else does, he’s deleting the entire universe and recreating it 20 feet to the left.
>>222448860it's callled >nerding outsomething you can do about a truly interesting topicwhich excludes ANY shit that Abrams and Klutzman raped Trek with
And there is no way to know because the clone thinks they're the original
>>222447003ok just because it breaks apart your atoms and puts them back together, doesn't mean your dead. you can take a body apart. like if your finger gets cut off and they put it back on, that doesn't mean you died because you were split into pieces. they could even transplant other organs off someone else's body into you in a surgery and this is still you bieng alive even though part of you had been removedI don't think you understand the science behind it. the transporter system is harmless aside from the occasional malfunction
>>222452679>reassembled in Canada
I recently died and was resuscitated and went through several layers of hell and on of them was my brain getting loaded in from a miniature version of the machine from Contact and it was basically like every cell in my body was in a solid state frozen hell waiting to be used until then
>>222447003everytime you go to sleep and lose consciousness you actually die and someone else wakes up with your memories. yet you don't try to stay awake as long as possible. curios!
There’s a lot of having-their-cake-and-eating-it-too, the transporter does what a given episode needs it to do, but we have Kirk’s transporter clone that does imply some sort of un-copyable “spirit” (with each copy getting half of it), but also weird storms can create transporter clones without taking away from the original. Maybe the storms are haunted by past-future-past versions of the people that get duplicated.
>>222453120>does what a given episode needs it to doLiterally every piece of Trek technology.
>>222453090The real messed up thing i realised was that you're not temporally synched with other people's consciousnesses. You only exist at one instance in time and everyone else exists in some other instance in time based on when they're born, when they sleep etc. Say someone is born now. Their consciousness begins now. But your consciousness began years ago. the person born now has already experienced as much time as you have and you're communicating to a husk of what they use to be. their consciousness is some time in the future.
>>222453090No, brains can’t actually power down and come back, even when people spend half an hour in frozen water and come back their brain was just going very slowly. Your mind is your soul, when it goes out it goes out forever.
>>222453216>the person born now has already experienced as much time as you haveno that's not right, the math's not adding up
>>222447003They had two whole episodes about this
>>222453216>someone is born now. Their consciousness begins nowAkshually it doesn't.
Nah I'd win the coin toss.
>>222448512>I never understood why they couldn't clone everyone who ever died on away missions by just using their last transporter information.Thats a can of continuity worms best left unopened. A bit like economics and currency in Star Trek
>>222453396>like economics and currency in Star TrekYou can either use gold pressed latinum or being a communist cuck. Simple as.
>>222447003the weird thing is you'd think they'd try to downplay this, but the riker clone episode both confirms and highlights this; but then why would anyone agree to use this killing machine? why would they have an entire episode about barclay's irrational fear and how it's actually perfectly safe to get killed and copied?
>>222447003Kek... They stole the phony teleporter when it's really just a wormhole generator that uses tech I won't list here. The first clone is almost guaranteed to getting their neural net reprogrammed. Yes, you will think you are special. I'd rather put up with abusive ass Rick then deal with a crew of lobotomites. I mean I'm no saint or anything but that's some fucked up shit.
>>222447969There's no difference between your electrons and any other electrons anonThere is no part of yourself that's "you" or that is objectively uniqueYour "original person" doesn't exist in the star trek universeThis is hard to comprehend to you, but there's not "you" on star trek.Imagine I'm grabing one of your atoms with a superneedle, then making you walk 20 feet, then implanting the atom againI can do the same with a finger, you walk 20 feet, I implant the finger againI can do the same with an armI can do the same with 100% of your body, in the star trek universeIn the star trek universe, your body is nothing more than a bucket that contains your designed atoms
>>222453396>>222453507There is reason to think that federation citizens get credits that they can use for scarce resources (like a home in a historic Earth city) but yea it’s super fuzzy and always will be.
>>222453253imagine 2 clones born at the same time. they experience time simultaneously. but now imagine the exact same situation but one person is born 5 minutes later. they open their eyes 5 minutes apart then both experience 5 minutes of time .. except they're 5 minutes apart. the first clone meets the second clone but the second clone is already 5 minutes into the future. because consciousness starts the moment you're born. you're not conscious before you're alive waiting to be born.
>>222447969>Trek cannon will tell you the same thingShow me where it tells you.
The only character is the continuity who is IMPOSSIBLE to gaslight is Janeway, and she refuses to use the damn thing, case closed.
>>222453589>my brain not smashed into goop is the same as my brain smashed into goop because they're both made of the same constituent partsin your case, I believe you
>>222453589but have you actually looked or scanned atoms to see if the model is correct or did you just blindly believe it in a way similar to someone believing in a religion with no proof?
>>222452679Unless there is some specific situation fucking up the mechanism, the stargate actually transports the individuals. Its an wormhole with controlled gravity and event horizon.
Yea, no one teleports in Stargate iirc, they’re just taking shortcuts.
>>222453396the basics of food water housing are free and then nonreplicable or luxury stuff is on the marketit's not hard to figure out the federation was going for super advanced sweden not the Soviet Union
>>222452679No but I'd lie about it too.
>>222452827>but everybody else doesThere are a couple of episodes where people are clearly conscious throughout transport - Reg Barclay for one, who is able to move and talk and think while in a buffer state. So judging by that logic, they do not die. There is continuity of consciousness, despite the fact that the physical body is broken down.
>>222447969>All your cope about dreams while being transported is nonsense, hallucinations of a dying mind or hallucinations of a mind printed out of thin air who is new to this realityit literally shows what happens from first person point of view in the episode with the warp worms. you're fully awake and conscious the whole time
>>222453616imagine it this way- just think of the very first image you see when you first become conscious. it doesn't matter how far apart they're born, they start with 1 image. person 1 starts with a picture of a ball in the sky. person 2 starts with that ball on the ground. then we move to the next moment. for person 1 the ball starts falling. for person 2 it starts bouncing. how can this mean anything except that we are all living in seperate locations in time
>>222447003That’s why the Star Wars universe uses voluptuoulizing technology and makes you a phat woman first and is superior
>>222447003Okay, so? You know you don't actually "exist" in the past, right? You "die" every second as well. All you are are your memories. That's literally all you are. The continuous of consciousness isn't "real" and has no value other than making you tell yourself a better lie.
>>222453943Reg wasn’t experiencing a normal transport and he knew it. Personally I think that talking while being transported is a psionic ability but that’s up to you, it’s obviously not something anyone can do any time.
>>222453396Why would they? When you're dead, it's not like you want to live again. You'd just be creating another human, albeit the exact same and in essence that person. They'll die anyway, so it's as good a time as any.
>>222447003t. "Bones" McCoy
>>222453738Key word here is "smashed"Covered by my example of "walk over there... and implant again", key word "again"If your brains is smashed into goop, and then reassembled at the exact same molecular level, yes nigga, it should work, EVEN if you had a "smashed" state before.>>222453780I trust the federation with the transporter tech as much as I trust it with playing with anti-matter to move the shipEvery warp travel is a potential catastrophe, using the transporter is just one moreImagine you are shitting and the ship takes warp factor 9 to pursut a Warbird and 0.00000001g of dark matter is out of place, the ship starts to fall apart during warp speed, and you didn't finish your shit
>>222453804It literally turns you into data and then reassembles you. There are several episodes with people trapped in the gate's buffer.
>>222454177Thats why I said>Unless there is some specific situation fucking up the mechanismThe way it works normally is by transporting your atoms
>>222454467So just like Trek's transporter?
>>222447003Yes, and?You do not feel it, you do not notice it, a hundred years could pass unnoticed while you're in the buffer and you would just blink and consider it the next moment when you come out. There is no soul, there is no unique "(You)". You are a specific configuration of atoms at *any* particular point in time. Do you still think you're the same person you were last year? Last month? Last week? An hour ago? A minute ago? A second ago?The people in Star Trek understand that any "Permanence of the Self" is an illusion.Plus, it saves on shuttle fuel expenses.
>>222447003Isn't this why Pulaski refused to use them? You're not onto anything new, Trek nerds have been discussing this topic for 50+ years.
JUSTICE FOR TUVIX.
>>222453961>you're fully awake and conscious the whole timeNo, only Barclay is, because of his severe autism.
>>222454611>The people in Star Trek are godless materialist cucksWe know.
>>222454665>LONGER THAN YOU THINK, O'BRIEN, IT'S LONGER THAN YOU THINK
>>222454885kek
>>222447003I would use it
>>222447969Tldr
>>222447003Were you there?
>>222448512>no moment of unconsciousnessIt would only be a few moments MD your mind (old or new) wouldn't perceive it anyway.
