Book Pennywise (when he's luring them in) is described as looking totally and unambiguously friendly, like a Disney movie protagonist. I prefer Curry's Pennywise to Skarsgard's in terms of design, performance and the relative restraint -- Curry!Pennywise only looks maybe 20% creepier than a regular clown -- but the same issue applies, no kid would willingly approach the fucker unless they had a heart made of iron.
