I don't understand why the new Evil Dead movies always have a woman as a protagonist now. Why not try to make a new Ash? Sure it might not be as good as the original but I miss male leads in horror
>>
Or better yet, let classic franchises die instead of milking them for name recognition.
>>
>>222486907
We can do either a woman or a nigger. Sorry. dems the rules now.
>>
>>222486907
>>222486937
This, new ED movies are just generic possession movies. They can't even do deadites well aka being trolls doing the most random and humiliating thing with your loved ones to mindbreak you.
And I'm sure there are still a lot of cool looking actors there but misandrist and jealous nepobabies cockblocked them all I guess

Isn't Ashley a girl's name?
>>
>>222486968
>>222486976
This shit reminds me of that twd spin off. They have this villain who is some anorexic 80 years old grandpa who nobody would take seriously, God fucking forbids to hire a young white actor with charisma (which is funny because the spin offs leads are white men)
>>
>>222487019
Only in 21st century america. It's historically a male name.
>>
>>222486907
Apparently the future is female. You're just going to have to buckle in for the wild-ride while they do their thing. Then, after society collapses completely and women's rights are revoked, and society slowly starts to heal and come together again, you will once more be able to have kino movies with male character leads.
>>
>>222486907
They know Ash would mog any other male character so they have to go for a change up instead. Understandable imo.
>>
I had to bow out of ash: vs evil dead when the obvious self insert jewish woman met the obvious racially antagonistic white southerns
Like we get it, you think your shit don't stink
>>
>>222487446
Nothing inherently wrong with a female lead. Problem with modern flicks is they make all the men evil, incompetent or both. The remake walked the line decently enough. The brother is the flawed main who dies saving his sister.

Rise and Burn is your standard modern girl power schlock.
>>
>>222486907
men are not protagonist coded

Honestly I appreciated the balance the series took in that Pablo and Kelly were not particularly competent and saving the day always came down to Ash
It was an interesting way to play the "new blood" thing, and I respect that they just couldn't make Bruce Campbell do multiple hours of action footage per year by himself

And Pablo in particular had a dynamic that feels outdated in modern writing, where he just absolutely admired Ash and never at any point stopped trusting him or being loyal to him. They call that kind of thing cliche but when you see it in action it makes you realize how little that's actually done anymore.
>>
>>222487611
What an odd thing to say
>>
>>222486907
>Hail to the queen, nigger
Doesn't have quite the same ring to it
>>
>>222486907
Ash being the final girl WAS the subversion.
If you try to re-do ash its just going to be some terrible parody of Bruce Campbell, and I'm not going to watch that shit.
>>
>>222487372
And then...
>>
>>222487762
>Ash being the final girl WAS the subversion.

Retarded forced slop. You never watched 50's and 60's B movie horror flicks because 'final girl' was never a thing until feminist cringe movies.
>>
>>222489167
Final girl is a shalsher thing. In old horror movies there's usually also a girl, but they don't really fit the archetype. It's most often a couple too.
>>
I want someone who is daring enough to return to slapslick swashbuckling

because Army of Darkness is the best in the series
>>
>>222487521
Yep. Also horror movies used to have the heroine having a boyfriend too. You always rooted for the girl and her bf in I know what you did last summer for example
>>
>>222487502
>>222487632
My biggest gripe with that series was showing whatever it was that was chasing them, and then revealing to be some sort of dust cloud.
Completely killed it imo.
>>
>>222487502
I mean look at The Boys, Vought Rising is literally some jewish hag femcel fantasy of every hot white men in love with her selfinsert kek
They won't allow white girl x white man anymore

There isn't a single living male actor who can hope to stand up to Ash, might as well go with generic women
>>
>>222490776
There are but they are not hired. Same as hot young white actresses, they still exist but can't compete with ugly nepobabies or they get ruined by interracial forced ship
Try to make Sadie Sink thread and witness the jealousy from muttinas and yentas
>>
>>222486907
It faces the same dilemma as recasting Freddy Krueger, Pinhead or Chucky. The actor who played them for so long is so iconic it'll be next to impossible to please the fandom at large. I did like Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger quite a bit and I think it sucks he'll never play him again, but still. Case in point.
>>
>>222490843
Who could play a modernized Ash, anon? Every young male actor is effete and quasi-homo. Characters like Ash and John McClane were meant to be everyday men. None exist in Hollywood.
>>
>>222486937
This.
1, 2 AoD
No point in watching after.
Remake wasn't anything special and neither was rise.

Feminist don't like horror films with male leads

This trend with horror franchises with male leads
>Predator - recent films had female protagonists
>Evil dead - recent films had female protagonists
>The thing - in the remake the protagonist was a woman
>>
>>222491885
Feminists =/= normal women
Mcu was popular even with women thanks to handsome charismatic male characters
>>
>>222491885
>2013 ending teases Ash
>Never comes back
Why? Bruce Campbell isn't even THAT old
>>
>>222490978
Ignore nepotism for a while and try with some real actor
Look at Homelander, he was casted thanks to some woman thirsting for him
>>

>50yo kiwi

>>
>>222492209
That's what I'm saying, all those potential actors weren't hired for literally decades despite obviously having potential
>>
>>222492242
Actors aside, the roles simply aren't written.

>I don't understand why the new Evil Dead movies always have a woman as a protagonist now
denigration
>>
>>222486907
One of the things that made Evil Dead stand out was the male lead in a female-lead dominated genre, now it’s just another generic horror series and the last movie was one of the most generic forgettable pieces of shit I’ve seen in theaters.

male heroes are irreplaceable, but girl-bosses are replaceable, to a strong degree. nobody becomes attached to a girl-boss due to the inherent dishonesty in the notion itself. they can get a new girl-boss for every new entry until it dies, as that is the real intent.
>>
>>222486907
Because Karens have infected the studios. Grrlboss-slop is all we're allowed to have. Notice how every aliens movie or show has a grrlboss? Diversity always goes in one direction
>>
>>222487069
Yeah nothing tops the Governor as a competent villain. I hated the dude with the bat and lost interest not long after he started executing all the cool males
>>
>>222487502
I honestly filtered it when I saw the grrlboss in the previews. Was like oh nm
>>
>>222490843
>Sadie Sink
Only reason she was allowed to be hot and White waz because she was evil.

Nobody can replace Bruce, or play Ash. He's a once in a lifetime deal.

Men are only protagonists in horror movies if they're black or villains (like in Obsession)

I have no idea why couldn't the reboot movies just have the same tone as the originals, with a "kind of badass but also kind of an idiot" hero, just with a female protagonist because they love genderswaps so much
like come on, his name was Ashley Joanna Williams, it's right there

Evil dead 2013 did had the main deadite being an absolute troll to everyone. The other were more like zombies but she was really saying and doing some funny shit
>>
Even Raimi lost sight of how and why it worked. In Evil Dead 1 & 2 Ash was far from a badass. He was kind of a dweeb. But he rose to the occasion. He manned up to survive and that's what made him cool. Ordinary people in extraordinary situations is what works best. Raimi ended up making him a bafoon perv from Army on and it lost something for me.

Off the top of my head, Nancy in Nightmare on Elm Street. Normal chick. She had to step up. Sarah Connor. Normal girl. Had to adapt. We just gotta stop making every lead a forced automatic badass.
>>
>>222497278
Evil Dead Rise was also a good trolling movie. Alyssa Sutherland’s deadite spent the whole time fucking with her family.

The new one is just gory and grim.
