What did you think of her? I found the parts with her children to be trite; she feels superfluous in an already bloated cast. Her scenes pretty much explain Peter’s emotional arc for the audience, but it feels unearned and other characters do that more effectively. They seem to be setting her up as a motherly figure/friend for him, so I hope they’re building towards tragically killing her off like her comic counterpart.
She's basically playing the exact same character she plays on the bear which is pretty funny
it became super common to ram black old ugly women to roles of detectives, police officers,..
>>222489023too fucking ugly to look at
>>222489023She should be Peter's mommy gf in the next movie.
>>222489023I think it's good they're setting up more of Spider-Man's extended cast of characters, and the fault of the movie feeling bloated is more because they didn't have the balls to leave Ned and MJ behind like they should have. But yeah they're probably setting up her death, Spidey will probably be partly responsible when he has the Symbiote suit and gets reckless, sending him down a guilt spiral. Could be okay.
This kind of older Latina was always fun to work with in dead end jobs. Chill, not the top worker but always solid really sweet but didn't suffer idiocy. Seeing that dynamic on screen was fun.
>>222489106that's because black women fill government jobs like that. Maybe not detective, but definitely officers.
>>222489023He has a relationship with police in the videogames too.
Does the sexy Aunt May make an appearance in the recent Spider Man?
>>222490006flashback/memories only. just repeats one speech in the scenes
Would have been kino if he was actually piping her to deal with his sexual frustration instead of just flirting on the phone.
>>222490006Her ghostly spirit shows up to help Peter get some teen pussy
>>222489023She was alright. Peter always has a cop friend. Her trans kid scenes felt obnoxious at first but executed in way that was ultimately harmless and lighthearted. Spider Man has all kinds of fans. Would have preferred they were actually based gen alpha kids instead of weird looking teenagers.
>>222489106That shit killed Trap for me. You have some charismatic smart killed and then his rival is some small anorexic old lady who obviously can't even carry a gun KEK, i remember some people laughing in the theatre everytime she appearedWe could have had some kino L Light dynamic here with some baddass detective
Another ginger
>>222489023they kept cutting to the kids and I knew one had to be a tranny irlshe was fine. I always find that particular new york accent so weird and put on but maybe thats cause im from the west coast and cant tell the difference between a fake accent and a real one
>>222489023She was the mayor, her character acts as the buffer and protection between Spiderman and the Police.
>>222489023She's fine, I like that Spider-man has a cop buddy to discuss things with, it was missing a bit in previous movies. I liked that it showed how much he has grown as Spider-man and that he is a central portion of the crime fighting in NYC. She obviously is filling in the hole that May left behind when she got killed for Peter and that will stay open until he gets to bang Jean Grey.
>>222490442She's going to die. It's a canon event.
>>222489023Kingpin should have been in the movie It's retarded punisher was in the movie but not kingpin
>>222493120You want Kingpin giving Spidey the key to the city?
>>222489203>>222490058Pretty funny they made her an old lady mommy friend when she had feelings for him in the comics
>>222489023Yeah, he should've been talking to EV more to hammer home the fact that he is forever alone. Also, his AI seems significantly dumber than previous films. I guess Stark's company stopped giving him access to their data centers after the spell?
>>222490442Sacrificed so we could get a redhead Jean Grey.
>dewolff dies>her traumatized transkid becomes a criminal seeking vengeance and has to be put down by spideyCould be kino
>>222493120>didn't watch Born Again season 2
>>222496678>a transnigger not being miles morales
The people making these are extremely obsessed with brown people for fuck sake but at least it doesn't pretend to be a historical document. It's an alternative spidey universe where Peter is the only white person ever.
>>222497145>every black boy and man's dream role being taken by a beige lightskin quirky enbieMarvel Studios would get blown up immediately
>>222490323And the internet griftosphere is celebrating this over the Odyssey, at least Elleott is a grown adult
>>222489106Looks like a weird fusion between the rapper Beetlejuice and the small alien in MIB
>>222489023Her accent was all over the place. New York has never had a female police chief and neither has LA.
>>222489404What a cringe ass comment. Did you copy and paste that from reddit?
>>222489023NGL her face was good fuel in The Bear. there are high res shots of her face I paused to in the bear. nice big puerto rican auntie lips.
>>222489472How come you're so worthless? Did your mom use drugs while you were in utero?>>222490006Her ghost shows up to motivate Peter to power up just a little bit harder to defeat the bad guy. Literally Gohan vs Cell.
>>222489023How do you think Peter got Blowjobs after MJ memoryholed him?
this character has like 2 minutes of screentime topsher purpose is to establish spider-man working 24/7
>>222489023I'd prefer this one from He-Man. She was good in that.
>>222490006Her spirit shows up to give the uncle ben speech to someone who needs it at that moment
>>222489023i saw this bitch in the bear but now i fucking see her in almost everything what the fuck?? dosent hollywood know different actors?? worst part is SHE PLAYS THE SAME CHARACTER EVERYTIME holy fucking shit its like debrah wilson in games bro
>>222499389in the bear she's a chef and in spiderman she's a police detective. hope this fixes your misunderstanding
>>222489023>capeshitKys
>>222489023Damage control did literally nothing wrong and I'm tired of pretending that m*tants deserve endless second chances just because they're >different
>>222490006>>222490074>>222498514>>222499201>her spirit>her ghostis this a joke?
>>222500575Yeah. It's a joke.Peter shares a memory of when he was really low and scared, and stressed out at being Spiderman.Aunt May comes in the room to comfort him.Except, Peter was using it to put Jean in his place in the memory, and show her how it felt to have someone who loved and supported her. It succeeded in calming Jean down enough to stop her psychic storm and allow her to come back to herself. It wasn't exactly a Spiderman win, as there would be zero chance Jean would have gone quietly, after she had already been dominating the fight with Spidey, but they are immediately interrupted once Jean "Wakes Up", and no one has a real choice on what to do with Jean after that.
I just watched it. Great movie. Give me reasons why I should hate it.
>>222489023Especially when she's a ginger white in comics.
>>222502677Characterization of Jean Grey was completely off.
People complain about her because they're chuds looking for something to be offended by. Her role is an extension of NY as a character. She represents local law enforcement (as opposed to the feds).
>>222503057Well, for some reason, the Jean Grey on Peter's Earth had a sister, and a rough childhood. She's not the Jean Grey from the X Men universe, with all of the teaching and practice.Deadpool addressed this with his "Indiscriminate use of variants" line.To us, used to the X Men Jean Grey, this one is a variant with possibly a completely different story. To Peter, that Jean Grey is the one that is supposed to be on his planet.I can't explain it any simpler than that.
>>222489023So this is the Zendaya girl you guys keep talking about ?
>>222503349Real reason is they wrote a telepath character into the script and later picked it to be Jean Grey.>The bigger surprise in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is Jean Grey's inclusion, of course, and McKenna told the trade that, while mind control was part of the story from the start, they "didn't have the right character for that story.">"Now we can tell a story that with a really great character that can mirror Peter’s in a really great way and we can get to a place," he said. "Because obviously she’s such an important character in the MCU. We will have even more leeway to humanise this character and redeem her by the end.">The decision to put the spotlight on a Marvel "villain" rather than a Spider-Man one certainly didn't hurt Brand New Day, and for McKenna, it was all about cementing Spidey's place in the wider MCU. "We really needed the right character playing that role," McKenna noted. "We were exploring other characters, and it just wasn’t... It was Jean really helped unlock it. She was the missing piece."https://comicbookmovie.com/spider_man/spider_man-brand-new-day/spider-man-brand-new-day-writers-explain-the-hulk-jean-grey-and-why-they-didnt-use-a-spidey-villain-a229284
>>222502677I think the only real complaint is that the way that Jean gets treated by the movie is pretty inconsistent (in part probably due to rewrites)Simply put, the movie shows her do too many evil things for the (bitter)sweet ending she gets. Either they needed to turn down her more callous possessions or her ending needed to have a couple more disclaimers. As it is, she does some frankly unforgivable stuff (having a random civilian walk into traffic, mind-raping MJ/Peter on that rooftop, etc.), yet she still gets a pretty happy ending - no jail, not even really a scolding, the movie went full of sympathy for poor Jean, that's why Peter takes a bullet for her.And I say rewrite because something like walking a guy into traffic was probably written when Jean was not yet the villain. I sincerely doubt the person(s) writing that scene thought if Jean would or should do this.
>>222503462Well hell.I still like my idea better, but that sucks that it was just an "ah fuck, we don't even have a name for our troubled teen girl sorta villain."
>>222503482Dude, she's a mutant who doesn't understand herself. This is where I think the movie failed. This was a perfect opportunity to have Xavier show up to save a mutant from becoming an evil force on earth. This is where the Mansion should have begun.
>>222504359Doesn't really matter what she thinks about herself. The movie obviously wants the audience to feel symapthy for her (cuz that's what Peter does in the end and he's our hero) but she has done like, too many terrible things. You can look past the reckless actions she took to free her sister, you know, it's a movie... but she just fucked over random people just to like, aura farm. It's pretty hard to feel sympathy after seeing her and her sister mind-rape people in that park just for shits and giggles. Like, yeah, you two SHOULD be stopped by the government.
