(the second bike his niece rides is his ex-wife's who left him when he refused to get a real job), he cleans toilets because he has been cut off financially from the trust fund and is considered dead to his family, they could not bear the shame of his dereliction of filial piety and duty.the entire film is a self-insert for the director up to the facial hair of the main actor. his mother never complained about the path he chose in life, which is why the old lady sweeping wakes him with a smile every day, it is the ghost of his mother in the leaves, which is what he is trying to capture with his camera, since he has no photo of her when she was still alive. every character in the movie is a replacement to his missing youth, the woman he loved and lost, the responsibilities he shirked, the lost chances and opportunities, and his stubborn refusal to change. the tree once it has roots established grows or dies, which is why he is obsessively replanting new trees in temporary pots.

Why come we can't have pay toilets in the US? Almost every country in the world has them. I don't want to have to buy something so I can be considered a paying customer and they can unlock the restroom for me. I'd rather just pay a buck upfront.
