The book premise seemed like mysterious gothic fantasy, a curse which someone would strive to lift. So I thought I'd try to experience it by the tv show. big mistake. it's just a bad soap opera.

The show did not have the budget to depict the book's massive conception of the castle and its grounds. The books were about decay and the failed attempts of the feeble heirs of a grander, older civilization to maintain the world built by their ancestors.
