All of the events of the film that we see are from the point of view of the sheriff, who was not there for almost all of it. All of what we see is colored by the sheriff's naivete and biases. To him, Llewelyn is a lovable rogue, a heel with a heart of gold. In reality, Llewelyn went back to look for more loot, not to give a dying man some agua.
