It had some snippets of a bigger thing going on, namely in the intro, but that's just for flavor, to renew the mystery that the franchise once had but since lost, other than that it doesn't deviate from the formula as it is still primarily about individuals (Shaw and David) being confronted with a horrific impending situation and finding their around it.I see that people might have had expectations for questions being directly addressed but that was never what the classic features were about, and this one kept true to that while still fleshing out the universe. I liked that it was the story of 2 characters with very different points of view in the midst of extraterrestrial mayhem and horror. And the body/creature horror is some of the best I've seen, my hat's off on that completely.

This suggests the intent of the cave painting was disclosure first and foremost, he was impressed that we'd made it that far. But it could also have been an invitation and it just dawned on him upon the sight of humans how long it had been since. The violent reaction is the key to the film's deeper meaning imo. We see at the beginning that the creation of life is a sacrificial deed, while David was not. To the Engineer, simulating life, synthetic life, is heresy. Their life creed could be something like "creating life demands sacrifice so that its worth may never be forgotten". Spitting on the face of the forces of creation is all David amounted to, and why that set the Engineer off. Maybe he communicated this to humanity upon first contact, and the axiological regression (countered by technological progress) implied in David made the species as a whole seem unsalvageable, hence the ensuing rampage. This echoes the dangers of massified commodity and mass asocialization imo..Pic related didn't make into the final cut iirc, but should've. It reinforces the Engineer's fascination with its creations.
The spacesuit helmets were cool. Everything else was so retarded it ruined every other movie for me by making me question and be critical of everything instead of enjoying.
