Overpopulation is not a thing to be concerned about when every human on earth contributes to humanity equally. In the current scenario, OVERPOPULATION IS INDEED A FUCKING PROBLEM. The west does most of the world's high-end production, tech, capital, etc, while huge parts of the world have massive populations but nowhere near the same productive capacity. And obviously everyone wants to move to the west because that's where the money, infrastructure and opportunities are. Nobody is exactly lining up to move to some shithole with zero economic prospects. Everyone except the west and select asian countries is a fucking leech. Afghanistan literally has been estimated to have around $1 trillion in untapped mineral resources, yet a huge amount of that wealth remains undeveloped. And if Western countries actually went in there with the capital, technology and infrastructure needed to develop it, you'd inevitably get people calling it "colonization" or resource exploitation, even though the alternative is leaving most of those resources sitting underground. So yeah, population is absolutely a problem under the current global setup because population growth is happening disproportionately in places that have the least capacity to support it at high living standards.
