Just got done seeing this, overall a 7/10 movie. You definitely get the feeling this was cut up a bit after mixed test screenings and the ending reeks of studio notes.

>>222511222The Dad gets killed like 40 minutes before the end, the rest of the family and a neighbor girl manage to find a portal back to the present and realize they're back around 15 minutes before the neighborhood went back to the past. The mom orders a pizza to where they are to save the dad from going to the past and dying (he's a part time delivery driver). Then there's tacked on ending that feels like it was put in after test screenings where they explain that the mom also called a bunch of their neighbors and got them to evacuate (even though she said in the previous scene that no one would believe them if they did that).

I think originally it ended just after they saved the dad but the test audience didn't like that the whole rest of the town died so they said they saved some of them too even though it doesn't make sense.

Saw it yesterday. If it was released in the 90's it would make all the money, but nowadays it will flop.The ending neatly tying everything into a bow irked me a bit. Like the other anon said, it feels like studio interviened to be sure it would have a happy ending.I feel Robert David Mitchell didn't do much with it, nothing had his print, I think he was hired by the studio and JJ to do their story. Like all those indie directors that get hired by Marvel/DC to do capeshit/blockbusters for them.
