i remember not liking the films as a kid, just how they adapted the story/characters. i know it's not a 1:1 (and it was almost set in America at one point) but eh. third one was 'darker' and that was cool at the time, teenage-me was happy.

but the production design is really solid, some of the casting is 10/10, it's more than good ENOUGH that it makes zero sense to try again. surely kids today can just watch the Harry Potter films, aren't they considered classics now? they're on telly every Christmas.

Visually and musically those films are perfect. But the stories from 3 on omit sooooo much from the books that it is worth trying to re do them more thoroughly. Goblet of fire is insane how much is skipped

tbf there was a lot of 'lore' shit i didn't care for. the first two were like whimsical Roald Dahl style books (people forget they're comedies). you read them in a day. lots of inventive ideas and daft puns, to the point it's silly to care about shit like 'why didn't they just use [magical item] to [solve problem]?'

by Goblet of Fire, she started going on about family trees and all this wank. it felt utterly unplanned and up its own arse. and by that point Harry himself was used to the magical world, so all the fish-out-of-water stuff just became the status quo for him.

me? i'd have added some new first-year character that Harry has to teach all this shite to. maybe he's a squib or whatever they're called. 'this is your cousin Barry Evans, he's been put in Hufflepuff and he doesn't like the wizarding world much, he just wants to play football.'

anything about Horcruxes or prophecies felt like a massive arsepull, bordering on retcons.
