Is it good or bad that it's dead? It was the original writers wasn't it?

Personally I'd love a movieverse reboot/TV sequel with James Spader.

Yes, it may have been the original writers but what was written in the script would be the polar opposite to what the producers would have put on the show

why dont we make our own stargate episodes?
with AI getting more advanced (Minimax H3) we could easily produce new episodes that arent pozzed and could even use the original actors and their original voices.

Stargate Universe had so much potential. Unironically one of the worst fumbles in sci-fi history.

I know that it was likely because the budget simply didn't support what the writers originally intended, but the idea was outstanding.

The cast was excellent as well, but they could only do so much with what they were given.
>>
>>222517104
They did the gay drama shit that they rightfully made fun of before
The second season became somewhat more watchable but at that point it didn't matter anymore, the first impression was absolute ass
>>
>>222516944
It'd make the anti-AI crowd seethe, so that's also a plus.
When would it be set? Post Continuum?
What would the main plot arc/arc villain be? Needs to have thematic ties to the Goa'uld/Ori presenting themselves as gods but not being gods.
Only thing I can really think of is exploring the idea of 'at what point does one stop pretending and start actually being a god?' but that's basically just the Ori again no matter what kind of spin I try to put on it.
I guess you could do a role reversal and have some situation where the SG teams and earthlings themselves get misunderstood and worshiped as gods (against their will). Like maybe all these warring planets in some distant sector unite in their worship of the Tau'ri after hearing about how they beat the Ori and Goa'uld, and they have to try to figure out 'How do we break it to them that we're not gods without destabilizing this fragile alliance of extremely violent cultures?' Thus putting them in kind of a mirror position to that the system lords were in.
IDK I'm just spitballing.
How are we gonna keep up the right levels of 90's energy?

there are literally no limits, could bring back Goaulds/Ori or come up with something entirely else.
thats the good thing with AI, there are literally no limits to creativity.
>>
>>222517253

it had some decent ideas but they fumbled it with the cucking stones, unlikeable actors and too much retarded filler of shit happening on earth that nobody gives a shit about.

I am still pissed about the last episode ever to feature the Asgard.
It was an Atlantis Episode, The "Evil Asgards" were actually quite reasonable.
SG-Atlantis 1 bombs them from space while they are unconcious and, Shepherd exclames "Bullseye" and thats it, thats one of the five races genocided by a hillbilly with erectile dysfunction and the show never even remotely goes into the morality of it.
>>
>>222517253
>>222517391
>explorers trapped in an ancient, hyper advanced starship that is possible as old as time itself
>it seems to be navigating on its own, acting willfully with some mysterious purpose

How is that not interesting? It's a foundation for so many things. The reason there was personal drama was because as I said, clearly they ran out of budget. It's a well known joke about how they literally had like 2 or 3 sets.
>>
It makes me sad that Amanda Tapping only did one sexy photoshoot the entire show and it's tame as hell. Other sci-fi actresses were doing magazine centerfolds almost every month
>>
>>222517418
>thats the good thing with AI, there are literally no limits to creativity.
Yes, but there are limits to what kind of stories 'fit' with stargate and the things people enjoy about it.
Perhaps I got the wrong idea there. I was imagining a bunch of anons getting together in a discord server or some shit to work on it as a fan project together, like a fanmade season.
Now I'm sad that isn't a thing.
>>
>>222517495
Classic case of good premise shit execution, but the drama was clearly planned to be there from the start because we want the soap opera audience, as anyone who was keeping up with it at the time can attest.
>>
>>222517515

>>222517518
>Yes, but there are limits to what kind of stories 'fit' with stargate and the things people enjoy about it.
well we would have to figure this out beforehand of course.
getting some talented anons together and making some suggestions and then figure what would make for a good story worth telling.
I never said this part would be easy only that we arent constrained by anything now.
which is kinda ironic, when SG-1 started back in the 90s CGI was so expensive they couldnt really do all that much.
and now "CGI" is almost free thanks to AI. now every background doesnt have to be Canada.
>I was imagining a bunch of anons getting together in a discord server or some shit to work on it as a fan project together, like a fanmade season.

Sounds so goddamn comfy.

>which is kinda ironic, when SG-1 started back in the 90s CGI was so expensive they couldnt really do all that much.
Which is part of what made the show what it was.
There's like one big CGI battle in all of SG1, and the fact that it only happened once is what made it kino to watch.
If it were made nowadays we'd just be watching CGI ships and soldiers shoot each other for half an hour instead of sci-fi solutions to sci-fi problems.
>>
>>222517615
They were specifically the last Asgard alive, anon. They mentioned this in the episode
>>222517633
>These ones were not worth saving at all.
Daniel Jackson would not have let this atrocity stand. The "Evil Asgard" even show consideration for human lifes when they attack Atlantis in the opening of the episode. They dont even kill anyone. The last of them get exterminated.

It would be OK if there was some discussion or dilemma about it. There isnt. "Bullseye" is all we get as a comment of the eradication of the last of one of the five races.
>b-b-but they were evul
No they werent, they acted out of pure self preservation and communicate this clearly with the humans.
>>
>>222517035
Wre- what the fuck is that shit on top of your head?
>>
>>222517685
>consideration for human lifes
There's no point when they know their ultimate goal is to trap everyone where they are, while destorying anyone who tries to escape.
Especially when you factor in that it would also detonate the stargates, no doubt resulting in the destruction of every civilization with a gate in the solar system because there would be no way of communicating to people that they shouldn't use them before it was too late. Which btw the evil asgard didn't attempt to do at all. With their tech they could've easily dialed all gates and put out a warning.
>>
>>222517685
>The "Evil Asgard" even show consideration for human lifes when they attack Atlantis in the opening of the episode. They dont even kill anyone
You know, now you point that out, you're right.
They went non-lethal and Shepard just bombs their asses anyway. That's a bit fucked up even without them possibly being the last of their kind.
I gotta rewatch that ep.
>>
>>222517685
They never said that those 5 or so of them are specifically the only remaining Asgard, it's just their presumably small enclave on their toxic planet is all that remains of their race.
>>
>>222517685
>they acted out of pure self preservation
No, that's what the nox do. These guys just wanted to kill the wraith at any cost, even if it meant destroying all other civilizations.
No better than the replicators.
>>

>Sounds so goddamn comfy.
we could even do it here on 4chan and dont need to join some faggy discord.
we got everything we need here and files can be easily uploaded on catbox or streamable and then anons can put it together and upload it.
all we need are some anons with strong GPUs and an endless amount of SG-1 general threads.
>Which is part of what made the show what it was.
it also put a limit on what was possible but now this limit is no more.
>If it were made nowadays we'd just be watching CGI ships and soldiers shoot each other for half an hour instead of sci-fi solutions to sci-fi problems.
I guess the trick is to find a healthy mix but even here AI can assist with that.
we could just feed all the SG-1 screenplays into AI and have it generate a structure so our new episodes would be similar in terms of pacing etc.
>>
>>222517461
They didn't kill them all thankfully. One of them (think one that was talking to Daniel) is alive in one of the novels and they help him and another get the Asgard species back on track
>>
>>222517799
Sounds like I wasnt the only one dissatisfied with the ending. There was maybe 1 or 2 other instances of weird moral black holes, one I remember was the 2 random villagers that got burned alive in the Ori Arch during the Stone bodyswap arc.

I think an Anon-thology series of all the other SG teams could be neat. Leave the main cast alone, having too many cooks for that sounds disastrous but focusing on the surrounding world outside of SG-1 would be really cool.
>Series about a Wraith ship crew surviving their war with the Ancient during the siege of Atlantis
>Establishment and stories of the Jaffa insurgency
>Series centered around agents of the office of Homeworld Security like "Vegas" from SG Atlantis
>Asgard series about setting up uplift protocols for promising developing species
>>
>>222518030
>This hasn't been an issue for years
Wrong. And even when it gets it right, there is still the uncanny valley effect, AI images just look wrong. Also it cannot replicate a specific body type, it would turn Amanda Tapping's body into an amalgam of other women.

Give me a call when AI can measure a woman's proportions and accurately recreate what she looks like in real life. I think that's at least 10 years away
>>
>>222517777
Q u a d s

> we could even do it here on 4chan and dont need to join some faggy discord.
It'd be easier to build a reliable team of people with a good sense for the right atmosphere and feel that way. It's easier to work on this stuff when you've got a small, close-knit team team of people who all talk to each other about the whole thing and collaborate and contribute, rather than trying to crowd source everything. This is why games made by a handful of passionate dudes in the 90's are kino and games made by 300 people now are trash.
Or maybe that's just me trying to make an excuse to have a gang of stargatebros to write fanfiction with, IDK.

>we could just feed all the SG-1 screenplays into AI and have it generate a structure so our new episodes would be similar in terms of pacing etc.
Not sure that's a good idea. Especially with a series based as heavily in semi-plausible science as stargate. An AI's just gonna spit out meaningless technobabble and repeat what already exists in the series. They are notoriously bad at things like pacing and arcs too, not to mention continuity either with what we're creating or the original series. I feel like AI should handle the visuals and a dedicated group of /tv/ autists should actually plan and write the eps and come up with the shot composition, then prompt to try and get a result as close as possible to what we've planned.
But again. Maybe that's just me making excuses because I wanna be involved in some fun little replica of making an actual show.

>>222518022

agree that also sounds good.
and we probably would need to build it in the same way that the first seasons are made, you have these episodes that follow the main plot and these monster of the week/slice of life episodes.

we can turn her body into whatever we want.
we can make her thick or thin or give her huge tiddies and ass. maybe the stargate malfunctioned and gave her bigger breasts.
>recreate what she looks like in real life
who gives a shit. we arent limited anymore by real life.

>Not sure that's a good idea.
I think you misunderstood me, I was talking about the structure of the screenplay itself not about the content.
basically to replicate the comfiness of the 90s show we have to have the same structure.
story can be anything as long as its build in this structure.

>the regulars of this thread are probably the only people who even give enough of a shit.
Yeah but also I don't want to miss out on everything because I got busy and couldn't check /tv/ obsessively all day every day.

>also random anons can come up with better ideas than rooms full of hollywood writers.
Not a high bar these days, let's be honest.

>basically to replicate the comfiness of the 90s show we have to have the same structure.
I feel like said /tv/ autists will be better at this than an AI and it's not like stargate was a formulaic show. You'd think it would have been given the setup but somehow not.
>>
>>222518714
That was a pretty cool episode. My favorite one of the season was Enigma with Tobin Bell. And The Nox which it connects to.
>>
>>222518701
>why?
Personal reasons mainly. Possibly some projections, I apologize in advance:
Contemplating whether or not you or I with or without the assistance of AI could do a better job writing the original cast of characters is secondary to my (admittedly subjective) gut feeling that it's simply a bad idea and that there already are (objectively) 8 seasons for them anyways. Your pic related though does remind me that Atlantis was a rushed wrap-up job though so the possibility of giving it the send-off it deserves does sound nice.
But I'd really rather just see new stuff, and for whatever autistic reason, "Old characters but in New situations" doesn't sit right with me.
>>
>>222518890
>Well for one thing, fatigue.
we could mix it up however we want.
we are not bound by some budget or contracts with actors.
>Yeah but also I don't want to miss out on everything because I got busy and couldn't check /tv/ obsessively all day every day.
well you gotta make some room in your life for this project. also if we can turn it into a general thread it would be easy to catch up. there are general threads for all kinds of crappy shows or topics (see on other boards for example) and if these niggers can maintain it why not us too?
>Not a high bar these days, let's be honest.
a ragtag group of 4chan autists can outperform anyone
>I feel like said /tv/ autists will be better at this than an AI and it's not like stargate was a formulaic show.
we have to use AI as a tool to leverage our skills and not just let it do the work for us.
AI can do work that would be otherwise too tedious and can help us do more research into reverse engineering the show or implementing/testing new ideas.
>>
>>222519123
>But I'd really rather just see new stuff
fair enough, the old cast could also show up in flashbacks or recordings etc.
also we would need to come up with a new cast that everyone here would be happy with.
any ideas?

Here are estimates of the important character's IQs:
>Colonel Jack O'Neilll: Above 130. Great with tactics and leadership but not particularly booksmart

>Teal'c: Above 130. Very wise and insightful but held back by his blackness and Chulak's shitty education system

>Major Samantha Carter: Above 180. The greatest scientific mind in the US Air Force. Responsible for many revolutionary game-changer inventions such as time travel, naquadah reactors, etc

>Doctor Daniel Jackson: Above 250. The most talented archeologist on Earth who cheated death by ascending to Godhood and was already fluent in over 6,000,000 forms of communication before even reaching the age of 18. Impressive

>General Hammond: Above 120. Was clever enough to solve the 1969 time paradox but not some unrivaled genius

>Jonas Quinn: Above 150. Langarans are naturally more intellectually gifted than Earthlings are and he is supposed to be highly intelligent even by the standards of his homeworld

>Vala Mal Doran: Above 115. Not a genius by any metric, most of her success can be attributed to her being a cunning manipulative witch getting by in life on her good looks and sociopathic greedy nature

>Colonel Cameron Mitchell: Approximately 100. I'm shocked they let this midwit lead SG1 when Jack was far more experienced and qualified

>Anubis: Above 200. Definitely the smartest System Lord

>Thor: Above 500. He was literally too smart defeat the Replicator race so needed Sam (an ape by comparison) to do his job for him because he kept overthinking it. Pic related

Maybe an AI episode in which every remember of the SGC is forced to take an IQ test by the Pentagon to determine salary adjustments? With a silly twist ending revealing Walter actually had the highest IQ on the base all along which causes Sam to explode into a tantrum and her arc of the episode is coming to the realization that being the highest IQ person in the room isn't everything

True, it relates more to the potential booksmarts you can achieve with hard study. Because even if Jack dedicated his entire life to studying academia instead of fishing, he'd still never be as gifted as Sam is

That was the point of me referring to it as an "anon-thology." If the AI tools are as good as to be claimed, then everyone could just make their own story without needing everything to be centralized into the narrative of only four new characters.
And hell, Stargate has enough parallel dimensions and tome travel plots so that a shared vision isn't even strictly required.

This happens to me at least once a week. It's like I'm living in idiocrasy. It's always one thing or another, like when my caveman friends get confused why they can't grow their plants by feeding them Gatorade so I explain they need to use water instead to which they start physically assaulting me screaming:

The cancelled MMO had some concept art that depicted them as very similar to how the Goa'uld/Jaffa armor looked. I think one of the proposed storylines would've had us discovering that the Furlings were wiped out by the Goa'uld who eventually stole their tech and wore their bones as armor.
>>
Finished Universe today. Purest sci-fi series I ever watched, at least by the end. As it should be, exploring into the unknown, everything can go wrong, barely making it through with all the effort that you can make with smart people. Discovering things that you don't understand and don't necessarily get explained later. Some of the oldest sci-fi concepts are in there. Drama may have been over the top in the beginning but it was realistic later on and by the end I cared about the characters in a way that I didn't with any other series.

They did manage to wipe out the Furling sanctuary, which was a place free of technology by planting spores which made them go mad. It was the episode where O'neill and Maybourne were trying to kill each other. Not sure if they could ever beat the Furlings in a straight up war, but then again, the goa'uld are leeches who steals technology from others. Maybe the goa'uld tech they are using was originally made by the Furlings? Many unanswered questions.

I know that, but the way I typed it was unclear. The hypothetical alien technology I was proposing in the example would "double" the numerical IQ value specifically. So if a 60 IQ person took it he'd permanently become about 5 times smarter

Whether your IQ is 69 or 169 there'd be no reason not to take it (unless it were Aschen tech, in which case it'd obviously be intended as a trap! there would be some horrible catch like you can permanently no longer get your dick hard)

It would be like if a bunch of Amazon chicks captured a guy and chopped his dick off and convinced him he was a woman thats some fucked up shit

They were trying to make them human and shed the side that causes the need to feed of life. It was very understandable
But yes, they really should have stopped Sheppard with his naming conventions

>spaceship capable of lightspeed travel
>cloak no human tech can detect
>asgard beam technology
>hybrid fighter jet with hypersonic speed in both atmosphere and space
>getting pressed by other nations

This is most retarded and sloppiest american propaganda in the show by far.

>threatens to go public with the stargate program
>beams nuclear warhead precisely and neatly on the presidential table of every world leader in less than 10 minutes

What the fuck could anyone do anything about it

I also extend this sentiment to the Genii of Atlantis.
Just fucking beam a fake nuclear warhead prop inside their shithole cave-city with a message "We can wipe you out whenever we feel like it" And they would never fucking bother atlantis again, the lack of power display is perhaps the weakest link in both shows. The obvious "american military is the good guys" propaganda is so sloppy i can't stand it

I like it in the sense that it gives you a positive outlook, not every single fucking thing has to be some flavor of "military bad"

>allows the expedition to suffer casualties and hardship multiple times that could be entirely avoided

I'll give it to you that it's civilian, but it's still gay and retarded

They were "advised" by the US military, right? There's few room for more realistic writing under the circumstances. IIRC they manage to break the 4th wall and throw a jab or two to the US military.

Considering how often they run through before getting confirmation the iris is open, there's probably been a few times the battery died or somebody entered the code wrong before losing whole SG team.

Stargate sex with Daniel
>>
>>222542081
i dont disagree with your point but they had several type of episodes showing what would go wrong and end up in the destruction of everyone.

the most notable one being the one with daniel and his sorta step son shifu where he taught via a dream that too much knowledge can corrupt

its a shame we never got the final season/direct to dvd movie which would have been about disclosure of the stargate program

If you were really that smart you'd be smart enough to convince the goycattle to implement your solutions and you'd come up with solutions the goycattle can implement.

Its crazy how irrelevant this dude was.
The first that was actually body snatching, and he just stayed in the worst possible host.
And somehow got trapped for ages.
