Tom Noonan seemed like nice thoughtful guy in real life. He nailed his type casting in Last Action Hero; poor guy. Was great at Sammy/Caden; lots of pathos.

Blake was a visionary, if you have even a passing interest in art and poetry you will probably be moved by his work. Beyond that, insane people tend to form strange hyperfixations and see some deep personal meaning in unexpected places that calls to them and can become a significant pillar o their personality for whatever reason. Thirdly, Manhunter is pure kino and I will watch it again soon I think.

Genuinely still mad he didn't get a sticky on here. His performance as Dollarhyde is probably my favorite acting performance in any film.
>>

I gotta watch that movie again. I remember really enjoying it and how stylized things like the fake eyes of Sardo Numspa and Noonan's axe were but it's been years and years since I've seen it. It was one of those HBO afternoon staple flicks when I was a kid.
>>
>>222518029
I can't remember exactly how he came upon Blake, it's been ages since I've read the book but it's a great read and goes way deeper into Dollarhyde and what made him the way he is. He's a sick murdering fuck but the book goes so far into his backstory from childhood and things like his facial deformity and torture he endured that you almost feel sympathy for the guy even with all the heinous shit he did.

Manhunter: Freddie Lounds is a super sleazebag journo played by Quaritch from Avatar.
Red Dragon: He's just a slightly sleazy journo played by over 9000 bags of heroin man in one of his worst acting performances.
>Hannibal: He's a hot redhead chick who helps solve cases with the FBI and takes pictures sometimes.

I enjoyed Hannibal but come the fuck on man.

They say in the book he was an amateur bodybuilder (80's speak for lifted weights in his grandma's attic while hearing her scream and call him an ugly filthy little beast in his head) but tall and not very stocky with strength matching that of a much more muscular man so Noonan was perfect for the role. If you spend literal decades of your life hyper fixating on your self disgust, your brain has this amazing ability to compensate to keep you from killing yourself.

Bad call Ripley. You might enjoy Chaser, Humanité, Citizen X, Romeo Is Bleeding, River, The Lady From Shanghai, and The ABC Murders. It's very difficult to find films with a similar style to Manhunter though because Mann's direction and cinematography are so unique, so don't expect a 1:1.

i meant the book since you were talking about reading the book. The book ending was so amazing. When I started getting into it I was shoked, considering how close Silence of the Lambs book is to the movie. Red Dragon movie was decent, book was great, but Hannibal book ending was so intense I loved it
>>
>>222524411
All 3 in the trilogy are incredible, and Thomas Harris should be credited as one of the great American authors. Do yourself a favor and read the books anon. Read them in order and enjoy.
>>
>>222524578
Yeah that shit shocked me too lel. I still think sometimes about whether Clarice is playing the long game by placating Lecter or if she's really fallen for him and joined him.. Harris did great with that ending and it should have been left there like he planned, no prequel stuff or anything, we already knew about Mischa and his upbringing being the catalysts for who he became. It didn't need an entire novel dedicated to telling us what we already knew by reading between the lines.
>>
>>222524940
>no prequel stuff or anything,
Hannibal Rising was pressured from the studios if I remember correctly. Harris just wanted to keep it with the trilogy. Based on how intense and brutal the drug induced psychotherapy was, and the apparent catharsis Clarice had by being able to "speak" to her daddy in the state, it makes me think that she was both consciously giving herself fully to Hannibal as a thank you, but also that Hannibal had somewhat altered her brain chemistry and broke her in a way you break a horse. It was his way of loving her. My favorite, absolute favorite part was when Barney was at the Opera in South America with his girlfriend, and he see's Clarice with a man he doesn't recognize, and utters Clarice's name, and the man he doesn't recognize's face turns from the stage directly to Barney's face, and Barney knew immediately who was looking at him. It was so perfect it made me laugh out loud hysterically. I hope it did the spoiler right it's been a while
>>
>>222524940
Sadly he had no choice. The hebrew and, Allah forgive me for even uttering the word, Italian Hollywood alliance was going to sue him into poverty if he didn't shit out another novel. Never forget Dino De Laurentiis is the reason there is over 9000 versions of Manhunter and other Mann films amongst other directors and writers he absolutely fucked over. That nigger is burning in hell.

Yep, that was awesome. Barney was one of my favorite characters in the books, and he was much more fleshed out into more than just a guard/nurse, because he seemed to be one of the only people that understood Hannibal's mind and actions worked on a respect scale. You show him respect and he'll show it back no matter who you are (and not eat you). Donald Faison was great as him in the films too, his minor screentime notwithstanding.

Yeah. The Red Dragon movie was really great too, but I suppose it's rather difficult to put on screen what the Dragon went through as heavily as it was detailed in the books. It's a bit unfortunate because it adds way more depth to the character when you understand what made him that way. I completely agree with your comments on Barney, same with the actor's performance. Great casting. Really happy I ran into someone that read the book. Thanks anon. Is silence of the lambs a comfort movie for you too? I've seen it so many times.
