Does anyone still care about Star Wars? Will the franchise survive this decade? Nobody I know (myself included) cares anymore.
>>
>>222518440
no
probably not

i now retroactively hate star wars. even the OT. the only thing it was good at was as a showcase highlighting new tech in film making, and that's it. It was always trash.
>>
>>222518466
anon, you're not allowed to say that. prepare yourself to be called a RLM hack. you're right btw.
>>
>>222518440
Name?
>>
>>222518440
Star Wars will always be around because its part of the cultural consciousness now.
It will just get re-interated and re-imagined regularly. and the toys and iltennectual property are far too valuable still to let it go.

the best we can hope for is a decade of silence and then another reboot down the line. we already had this in the 90s
>>
>>222518518
My name's Andrew, but why is that important?
>>
>>222518440
>Does anyone still care about Star Wars?
Not really. We just laugh at it now.,
>>
Only one man can save Star Wars now and his name is Ryan Gosling.
Once again Canada saves America.
>>
>>222518466
>i now retroactively hate star wars. even the OT

why? The theatrical cuts of the OT are timeless. If the special edition had been released originally (harryhausen stop motion instead of CGI of course), there wouldn’t have been a sequel.
>>
>>222518440
a couple of years ago i snatched the 4k despecialized edition in my language
>italian dub = best dub
so i can give a shit

now, if only they put the '97 version of the vader-emperor talk about luke in ESB.. they kept the updated version that came after the prequel trilogy, which is basically a spoiler for the big reveal (i am your father)

BTW, the correct order for view is the anakin saga: 4-5-2-3-6
4 estabilish the setting
5 gives the cliffhanger
2-3 the backstory (1 is cool and all but we don't give a shit about midichlorians, story is fine without it)
6 the grand finale
>>
>>222518440
Only if Lucas buys it back and declares the Disney stuff not canon.
>>
>>222518523
>the toys […] are still too valuable to let go
You mean the ones that triggered the dissolution of The biggest toy retailer? Even the Walmart toy section is slowly shrinking.

I still like the OT/PT and a fair bit of the older games(Jedi knight series/kotor, hell even force unleashed).

But it's dead and I repeat..

FULL MORATORIUM ON ALL STAR WARS MEDIA FOR A MINIMUM OF TEN YEARS.
>>
disney star wars is deader than george lucas star wars was before the sale. a change in brand and leadership is all that can regain some good will. too bad it’s over for old media.

>Does anyone still care about Star Wars?
Not enough to be viable long term.
>Will the franchise survive this decade?
Yes. Disney has enough money and hubris to keep it on life support for decades more yet. Franchises don't really die anymore, they just limp along. Halo is dead for all intents and purposes yet they're still throwing money at it in a desperate attempt to keep the corpse animated. I can see Disney just pivoting to children completely, maybe through cheap animated shows, and trying to capture one new generation on which to build. Issue for them is they don't even know how to make Star Wars appealing to the rusted-on fans anymore, let alone a new generation of kids with zero interest.

Damn what a sexy bitch. I wish I could die and be reborn as a pin worm so I could live inside her ass
>>
>>222518873
Anon Disney itself isn’t going to survive for decades.
>>
>>222518523
>the toys and iltennectual property are far too valuable still to let it go.
They’re completely unprofitable. Baby Yoda sold a lot of shit, but the franchise as a whole is at a severe net negative.
>>
>>222518440
I'm a little curious about Starfighter, but only because Ryan Gosling is in it. I don't give a fuck about Stat Wars anymore. And I used to worship Star Wars.
>>
>>222519222
Can’t really say that. Sure toys r us bought so much sequel shit that they choked to death and died on it, but it’s not like Disney had to give that money back. The toys aren’t profitable for retailers but they keep buying them for whatever reason.
>>
>>222518691
Also the prequels, Clone Wars and Rebels.
>>
It's crazy to think that back when I first heard about Disney buying Star Wars I was actually hopeful.
>>
>>222519477
why would you think they ever had any intention of doing anything but make assembly line slop movies with it?
>>
>>222518989
Do you see Disney World and their theme parks reducing in demand anytime soon? That's where 40% of their revenue comes from and it's by far the division with the highest profit margins and most reliable earnings. Plus for all their failures in the media sector the occasional tentpole movies like Zootopia 2 or Toy Story 5 are still so profitable they offset a lot of the other failures.
>>
You can go back in time:

A. Kill Hitler before he causes the deaths of millions of white men

B. You get to creampie her (she is unshaven) and you live in the late 70s and get married

Also, pro tip: you don't HAVE to accept whatever NEXT corporation does with an IP. I can always rewatch the OT. I even have the 4k versions with the original effects. You don't have to be excited for NEW PRODUCT. You don't even have to accept the canon, I don't. I don't even accept Clone Wars canon. Star Wars ended with the 3rd Prequel and there was nothing after that. Just like Indiana Jones ending with The Last Crusade. Crystal Skull? Yeah it's kinda neat but you know they just made it to make money. The Disney one? Basically made to ruin the IP take the Star Wars sequels. Same with Star Trek. You don't have to keep up if you don't want to. I liked Andor tho.
>>
>>222519494
I thought they might be enjoyable assembly line slop.
>>
>>222518440
I still like parts of it. Video games, for instance. They can't take The Old Republic from me, flying around Hoth in Battlefront is still fun, watching the OT where Vader chooses his son over obedience and kills the Emperor still chokes me up.

But I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm a fan anymore. I won't watch anything new released, and I just hope the IP is quietly retired at this point.
>>
>>222519477
By that time I think Disney had owned Marvel and Jim Henson/Muppets, so I understood that they were not going to do anything good, just IP hoarding. I think it was around the time that the live action remakes were being made. Also Disney buying Pixar and then directly competing against them with their own 3D movies (I think Tangled was the first one?) really cemented to me the fact that they were up to no good.
>>
>>222519501
>Do you see Disney World and their theme parks reducing in demand anytime soon

Well they’re steadily raising prices on all the park shit. There’s two reasons to raise prices. A: you’re selling out and the parks are at capacity so consistently you need to turn away business. B: attendance is steadily dwindling. Their recent star wars features have been abject failures.
>>
>>222518466
>i now retroactively hate star wars. even the OT.
Can kinda agree. OT's pervasive influence stopped being charming a long time ago. I have no affection for it beyond pleasant memories when my youth convinced me life didn't suck. Only Star Wars I like enough to give a shit about are the prequels and the pre-TCW era of it.[/spoilers]
>>222519477
lmao I had no hope from the start. People got what they deserved. Shit, shit, and more shit.
>>
>>222519510
This, you don’t have to give a shit about things you don’t like. It isn’t like anyone talks about Star Wars in a positive way anymore anyway. I choose option B.
>>
>>222518440
It only takes one really good one to bring everyone out
>>
>>222518523
You would surprised how quickly and silently something that seemed like a cultural juggernaut can just up and vanish.
>>
>>222519596
>There’s two reasons to raise prices.
There's a third. Greed.
>Their recent star wars features have been abject failures.
Undoubtedly. Mandalorian grossed less than Solo. That should terrify Disney's shareholders for the future of the IP. As I said though currently their tentpole successes offset those failures. When Zootopia and Toy Story start bombing and they run out of classic Disney IPs to make live action remakes out of then they can start to panic. Until then they have enough money to keep dead franchises like Star Wars on life support.
>>
>>222519477
Not really that crazy. disney had marvel by then and hadn’t shat the bed yet. on stranger tides wasn’t completely awful. wreck it ralph was better than it had any right to be. The hope was pirates of the caribbean in space.

The latest star wars movie was a flop no one cared about, unthinkable a decade ago. The franchise is truly dead and the only people who care about it are manchildren who never moved on and think george lucas will come back and fox everything

I like to think that one day their gonna give up on shitty sci-fi action movies and (maybe accidentally!) create a fantasy film featuring the Star Wars universe. They can't all be stupid forever, right?
>>
>>222518440
I used to fucking love pre-Disney Star Wars but under Disney, Star Wars is a raped franchise that can never be unraped. Still, I have to admit that I'm slightly curious about Starfighter next year but only because I love Goose.

The (no, not the fucking anime bullshit) vision that was Lucas et al to take the serials of Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon and move them out of classic to a more modern time was ambitious and good, but what it did to sci fi fantasy as a whole was disastrous. It created the worst thing. A standard.
>>
Nobody will care about star wars until they cast a black man as lead. Finn needs to be a secret skywalker jedi. or some new character. Only BBC can save it.
