Bar maybe the original. Here's why. The Heisei era has a very specific emotional texture and this movie is the moment where all its strengths lined up without the usual Heisei weaknesses dragging anything down. The human plot is actually interesting to follow. Most Godzilla films treat the human story as a delivery mechanism for monster scenes, sometimes charming, sometimes tedious. Here, the eerie mystery of the egg and the scientists’ emotional investment to baby Godzilla give the film a genuine weight. It’s not just "people reacting to kaiju".Then, the monster dynamics are unusually rich. Radon’s role is surprisingly mythic, almost tragic, and Mechagodzilla’s presence feels earned rather than gimmicky following the previous film. Mechagodzilla’s design itself is peak 90s industrial kino. This version looks like a military prototype built by a nation genuinely terrified of Godzilla. It’s the perfect midpoint between realism and kaiju fantasy. When Mechagodzilla gattais with Garuda, fuck, it ain't getting better than this pretty much everThe Heisei suitmation style is at its absolute peak. Heisei films before this often had great ideas but uneven execution. Here, the optical compositing, beam effects, miniatures, and suit work are all all superb. It’s the first Heisei entry that looks visually great from start to finish. Technically, Godzilla vs Desutoroyah looks even better and arguably the best suitmation visuals Toho ever produced, but the film itself is messy.
>>222518726Yeah it's my top 5 ever since I saw it way back in the 90s. It should've been the last film in the Heisei series. GvSG had its moments but was too cheesy and GvD was pointlessly cruel.
>>222518793Yeah both GvSG and GvD suffer from the "I guess we have to make another one" syndrome, whereas before and culminating with GvMII it was all uphill, and felt like actual passion.
o, my godzilla
Heisei era sucks past Vs. King Ghidorah. Though Mechagodzilla II by contrast to Battle for Earth, SpaceGodzilla and Destroyah is better. Not that that's saying much.

>modern gojira is cgi slopshamefuru
>>222518726I remember loving that movie as a kid, the Heisei era is probably still my favourite. I was also shocked how weak Kiryu was compared to Mecha Goji 2 when I watched prior's films.
>>222523231You mean later films?
>>222518726Godzilla vs Desutoroyah is my favorite, but I agree with your analysis
>>222519016SG and D both suffered from their budgets not being big enough to tell the stories properly Vs Destoroyah had concept art for new Godzilla designs meant for adult Junior which were modeled after Mosugoji, and art depicting a full-on MOLTING scene
>>222523432I meant "prior's" as in "Kiryu's".
