Right-Handed Flanders is the nicest guy you know with a good family and no problems. He is religious, but it’s not his entire personality.
Left-handed Flanders is an evangelical nut job.

The writing seems like an animation continuity error but the others make sense. Lots of left handed people play sports right handed. Even moreso with guitar.

the simpsons is on a floating timeline of course homer will eventually be a 90s kid, I don't know why people have an issue with this
The only problem is the modern simpsons writing sucks and they still write him like he was born in the 1950s, same with Marge and most of the other characters.
>>
>>222519950
What is the name for this practice? It's not a retcon, since they add new info instead of changing something.
Roger Zelazny took it to the extreme in his Amber books.
>>
>in order for the Simpsons to match it's current timeline Homer would've born in 1990
>>
>>222519950
>forced by teachers to learn how to write with his right hand
>learned to play guitar right handed because left handed ones are uncommon
>don't know anything about bowling so no rebuttal for this one

>he is now unconscious for the rest of the sequence instead of simply waking up moments later
>>
>>222519950
Actually a lot of lefties were forced by either educators or necessity (e.g. some tools and guns are far more difficult to use left-handed).
My wife is a leftie that the nuns forced to write with her right hand from a very early age.

im left handed but only when it comes to writing and brushing my teeth. everything else is right hand.

This. I’m left handed but do almost everything right handed because everything made for right handed
>>
>>222521522
>because everything made for right handed

someone should open a store that sells things that are made for left handed people in that case
>>
>>222519950
I thought it was established that his parents beat him and made him use his right hand after getting parenting advice from Filipinos
>>
>>222520156
I mean Homer looks 45 when he is 34. 34 year olds don't look like Homer anymore.
>>
>>222520156
>I don't know why people have an issue with this
General shitness of the writing aside, it's also the fact that with the sliding time they turned Homer into someone who was "in" with the counter-culture of the time, no matter how poorly it fits the character.
When he was a 70s kid he wasn't a disco junkie or a politically-aware student who protested on school grounds, he was your average meathead into the pop-culture of the time without committing to any real current or interest. Why the hell would he be a grunge faggot, even if just for a "phase"? I mean I know why, because zombie Simpsons writers can't do any plot that is not knee-deep into emulating a mainstream fad, be it of these times or the ones before. It's just that there's clearly no effort put.
>>
>>222520156
Whenever the Simpsons points to something modern it feels wrong. Whenever the Simpsons are on their cellphone or tablet it feels wrong. It was a product of the late 80s. Its fascinating that Beavis and Butthead is still good with its new seasons and was able to adapt. But Simpsons just cannot adapt properly.
>>
it makes the shows with consistency seem that much better
a recent american dad episode referenced stan's native american brother and said "he's barely canon", which hit me right in the funnybone
>>
i'm right handed but i bowl left handed for some fucking reason
>>
>>222520236
I am left-handed and I bowled with the right hand.
Just felt like it's more convenient.
>>
>>222522169
I thought about it for a second, and noticed that throwing motions and swings are easier for me with right hand, while activities involving fingers and finer motorics (writing, holding a spoon) are easier with the left hand.

Basically, better control over shoulder and arm on right side, and better finger control over left side.
Same with legs, kicking is easier with right leg, but if I need to grab shit or feel better something with my foot, I use left one.

He was such a big disco fan that he custom-made himself a disco jacket but ran out of space, anon. Did you forget?

He literally said he got kicked out of his high school's AV club because of his views on Vietnam.

he probably wasn't allowed to write left-handed as a child

>he's a pretty stereotypical 1970s teen in the early flashbacks
Yeah, he's a dorky loser but he's very much of the 1970s boomer cloth. Obsessed with then-current heavy rock music, rebelling against his straight-laced silent generation parents, a muscle car, feminist girlfriend, lots of cheap beer, being obsessed with "rockin'" and "not selling out", etc. They've also implied that he used to be a big stoner back in the 1970s too - after that swap meet sale where Bart gets a "pencil holder", Homer goes "Haha, far out, man. I haven't seen a bong in years."

Homer may have always been a dorky dweeb but he was usually up on the regular trends (both fashion and cultural) of the decade

I was about to say that seems off brand for Ned's parents from the one time I remember the show depicting them but at this stage I'm willing to believe any bullshit someone tells me about The Simpsons.
>>
>>222519950
Worse is when they retroactively draw connections between characters that have no business being connected, Star Wars prequel-style. It's why I really hate Homer's Barbershop Quartet.
>>
>>222519950
I'm left handed and do a lot with my right hand. It's not unusual.
>>
Flanders is actually left handed. Doing those things with his right hand is a flex. I do this when I play darts with my friends or I'm having a wank.
>>
>>222522659
That old chestnut
>>
>>222524629
i hate the word "corny" but homer's barbershop quartet is the dictionary definition of it, it's so fucking shit.
>>
>>222522008
There's no such thing as counter culture, all the people who were part of these movements were the biggest normies
>>
>>222520060
The original thing is that Flanders was always BETTER than Homer and his family at everything. Homer had an okay well paying job, but Flanders had an even higher paying job in the Pharmaceutical industry. Homer had a bunch of junk, but Flanders had the latest gadgets and fear. Homer went to Church but Flanders was a better more pious christian. While homer is a fat slob, Flanders is built.

That sort of thing. It was always meant to be that Flanders is just better at everything and more successful than Homer is, and it causes envy and jealosy. It also is supposed to highlight how The Simpsons are losers.

And the further context is that the simpsons existed juxtoposed against sitcoms with very clean families like The Cosbys, and Flanders family is more like them. This entire ecosystem is just gone and the entire satire aspect of the show is gone.

>not sure what you mean, he's a pretty stereotypical 1970s teen in the early flashbacks, he would be a stereotypical 1990's teen wearing flannel and listening to grunge

Did you miss the episode where Homer is now a teen in the mid 90s? He was a white hip hop kid before the hard gansta rap took off which made fun of this kind of rap. Funny enough, the gangsta rappers turned out to be mostly gay.

Oh, South Park got too big and they made too much money on it. They have scrubbed much of the racial or sexual parody from the show. They did probably the most mean spirited attack on transgenderism that I've EVER seen years before tranny-ism blew up. They would NEVER do anything like that again. It's probably meaner than anything I'd do, and I'm pretty against the queer cult.
>>
>>222527604
Big ship. Why would we assume that we know all the bartenders on the show? Maybe she DID join the crew at some point?

>>
>>222527586
there are multiple 90's aesthetics, early 90's homer would be into shitty early 90's rap like tupac and run dmc
mid 90's homer would be grunge
late 90's homer would be spiky hair y2k style
>>
>>222519950
my mom was left handed and went to catholic school in the 70s, so she got her shit beat by nuns until she learned how to be ambidextrous because left handedness is evil or something. ned could have gone through something similar.

The one they went with is the late 80s early 90s hip-hop, BEFORE figures like Tupac took off. The Humpty Dance is from 1990, and Naughty by Nature's song OPP is from 1991, so we can presume it's around this time period. It's right before "gangsta" rap took off, and got popular by making these guys look like dorks.

They may have chosen Homer to be into this music since it's so straight laced and apolitical.
>>
>>222523103
That one’s still funny because the gaslighting is the point. They even changed the closed captioning on old episodes to reflect Tolkien. Literally changing history to mess with the fans.
>>
>>222527786
This also makes Homer young enough to have been a fan of Sadgasm, the band he founded. Personally, I don't find the Sadgasm episode any more or less offensive than the Barbershop Quartet episode since that also makes no sense and violates continuinty. But the Barbershop Quartet episode has a LOT of quality gags and scenes to make up for it.

1 is rough, 2 is okay but it's still trying to find it's footing, 3-8 are gold, 9 is good overall, everything after that can safely be avoided. some people have a fondness for 10-15 but i hate those seasons the most. after that it's all zombie simpsons.
