I don't get the appeal
>>222521279its the feeling of longing for a cute japanese gf/wife
>>222521279love your parents
>>222521279Overrated
>>222521325why?
>>222521613lots of people's parents take good care of them and raise them to be succesful, independent adults. Many of those people will pay their parents back by honoring them with visits and taking care of them in their dotage
Haven't seen it, but I have seen Late Spring (or Summer?) and an Autumn Dinner (Morning?), and basically, Japanese people don't have emotions but will quietly pout when no one is around but you gotta watch 90 minutes to get to that point. Ozu is better if you speed-run all of them at once so you get the idea of what he's going for.
>>222521279Something something human connections good but sometimes there's friction or awkwardness haha. Basically the pseud stuff common in anime but you have to pretend it's high art when done in live action.
>>222521818Fuck you anon.I am sad now.
i watch it for the history, it reminds me of how much we've lost, if you don't feel anything while watching it then you are too young or too dumb
>>222521279It's so cringe how they're fake smiling all the time and repeating the same fucking words. Have a realistic conversation, you faggots.
>>222521980Lol, this is not like any anime at all. The movie is essentially about the disintegration of traditional family in post-war Japan.
>>222522516board is now filled with retarded zoomers who don't know how to put effort into anything anymore, pretty soon they are going to be asking how to wipe their asses
>>222521279The movie is fine, maybe just lacking a BIG moment, but it's still good and sad. Manchester by the sea is similar in just being depressing while going places in daily life.
>>222521279i saw it in my 20's and didnt care. i watched it again in my 40's and it felt more relatable and poignant. it's mostly about parents being pushed aside and neglected by their children. it's also about the values of society changing in unstoppable ways. ozu films are more subtle and slow paced. they're not for everyone.
>>222521279Try Ukikusa, it's a good one.
>>222521279Zoomies and the like should start with Ozu's Good Morning instead. It's hilarious and just as beautifully made as his other works.
>>222521279to any anons in this thread who are so predisposed: watch Make Way for Tomorrow. it's what Ozu ripped off for Tokyo Story.
>>222523257>Nani??!
>>222524870I prefer Tokyo Story. Americans love drama a bit too much.
>>222522585>lacking a BIG momentone of the main characters dies
>>222521279Standard rules apply - Watch it again in ten to fifteen years. If your opinion doesn't change, you have brain damage.
>>222521279I don't care for it. We don't consent to being born. That decision is made purely by your parents who do it for themselves. Expecting a unconsenting person to be your unpaid caretaker when you're no longer self-sufficient, at the expense of their own life, is selfish and evil. Ozu was a hack. He could only make one kind of film, and they're not even well-written. The themes and ethics aren't nuanced, he just tells you what to think.
