This is my favourite practical effects shot in film history. I love it when sci fi media went to the trouble of showing realistic gravity in space, rather than just ignoring it's exitance. Artificial gravity could be created by a rotating wheel, which would use centrifugal force to simulate gravity. It's takes a lot of effort and money to show this in live action though, so a lot of sci fi media just ignores gravities existence and has people walking around spaceships like normal.
Gundam was based for including rotating space colonies all the way back in 1979.
