What was /tv/'s reaction when this aired?

>>222528906One of the top two scenes of the series, along with the 'say my name' scene
I called it reddit.
>>222528906>What was /tv/'s reaction when this aired? You can literally check yourself it's all archivedhttps://archive.4plebs.org/_/search/text/Gus/type/op/start/2011-10-09/order/asc/page/2/
>>222528906he was such a big character that nobody thought he was actually dead. pure shock and disbelief. reading this >>222529636just confirms it. everybody felt the same.
>>222529636>You "it looked like looney tune" faggots need to read up on your scientific literature.Ancient IFLS……. well not too ancient I guess
>>222528906Barely anyone watched Breaking Bad as it was airing until the last season. It started picking up wide popularity after it got added to Netflix, so people started actually tuning in for s5
is Jesse Pinkman the most annoying character in kino history?everytime he got beat down, I cheered
someone posted the pic of it on tv 2 days before it happened, everyone was saying it was fake as shit and no way its real but then it turned out true kek.
>>222529396>'say my name' sceneMy problem with that scene is that it directly addresses what had before that just been left to suspension of disbelief (ie why would meth dealers give a shit about the purity of the meth they are selling to a bunch of crackheads, especially when it's got a distinct color that makes it easy to track, and can only be made by two unstable guys). The reasoning that it would produce more meth per gallon of methylamine is alright, but it still doesn't seem like it would be worth the hassle to lowlife drug dealers
>>222529985> just another lie from big meth
>>222529985>why would meth dealers give a shit about the purity of the meth they are selling to a bunch of crackheadsThey addressed this. I'm pretty sure it was even in the 'say my name' scene, but I might be wrong. But anyway, purer meth meant more yield per batch, so more profit per cook.
>>222530204>>222529985Oh and also the European buyers that Lydia had only wanted the extremely pure stuff because it gave a stronger high
>>222528906HAWWW
I almost shat myself thinking season 5 was going to be this nigger wreaking holy vengeance on walt, then came the reveal
>>222530134The methylamine keeps flowing
>>222528906BB should have kept to realism as much as possible instead of this cartoony shit. Every one of these "indulgences" undermines the appeal of the show's premise, starting at least as early as the Batman villain-tier fulminated mercury scene.
>>222528990Is this some sort of new meme?
>>222530462Have you seen the video of the man committing suicide by plunging his head into a table saw. He stands up afterward and touches the side of his brain that is no longer there before falling over.

>>222530493
>>222530514I meant doesn't>>222530577yeah that's totally the same thing
>>222528906Disappointed desu, Walt was already annoying by that time and I wanted him to lose the fight.
>>222530638So its impossible to move while missing part of your brain? Some people live with half of theirs missing
>>222529842That's bullshit, Breaking Bad was massive and everyone was watching right to the end. The last season just turned out to be extremely underwhelming, much like how Game of Thrones went.
>>222530804>much like how Game of Thrones went.Not. Even. Close.
>>222530462It's what makes the first season pure kino. You can already see the drop off in season 2, which is really unfortunate. They also introduced the Mexico filter for outdoor scenes for season 2.
>>222530842This was debunked. It was an Albuquerque Filter.
>>222528906I stood up and squealed "REDDIT DOT COM!!!!". I also clapped.
>>222530925This. The Mexico filter was pic rel.
>>2225308045a had over twice the average viewer count than 1-4 and 5b had over 3x the average viewer count. I'm not saying it was obscure by any means, but it didn't blow up in popularity until s1-4 were put on Netflix
>>222528906Hyped but the face thing was stupid. Not as memed as youd think right away
The whole thing was awesome EXCEPT for that very shot.
>Walt randomly meets Jane's father right after he lets her dieOkay, good scene.>Jessie randomly picks up a girl at rehab who's little brother shot Combo.....
>>222530739>So its impossible to move while missing part of your brain? Some people live with half of theirs missingYes they all post here
Still keeps his asshole pristine. You just don't get writing like this anymore
>>222529985>extremely pure meth with a distinctive marketable characteristic is it really a puzzle as to why this would sell like hotcakes?
Sex gifs?
Gus really built a fast food/meth empire in multiple states and have it hinge on Jesse accepting a truce with the dealers who had his friend killed and the fallout of those dealers taking out a kid who's sister he was dating.Did he hope Jesse would get killed so he'd only have to worry about a cancer patient cooking his meth?
>>222531747Beyond based that he left that tweet up too.
>>222531783>Never trust an addict. He should have just kidnapped Walt. Forced him to show them how he cooked the meth and then capped him.
>>222529636>>(USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST)I so much miss those times
I remember a screen cap of it leaked ahead of time and most people thought it was fake because it was so ridiculous.
i was like oh thats cool and then proceeded to post in cunny threads as that was allowed back then
>>222530462On one hand I agree with you. On the other hand, the occasional injection of silly things prevents it from being too buttoned up. The only time I really fault it is the finale, which was very silly and shouldn't have been.
>>222528906Been awhile but I remember Gus being based and totally reasonable at every turn. If Jesse and Walt had just acted normal and been grateful for the huge ass underground lab and smuggling network they could have made infinite money.
>>222532887Pretty much. Walt had ego issues so that's why he kept fucking things up constantly, Gus even gave him a clean out, but Walt was pissed because it meant Jesse would takeover cooking 'his' recipe instead.
>>222532887Agreed. Walt and Jesse ruined everything. But mostly Walt. Mike knew this.
Breaking Bad, is a bad show. Hyper-unrealistic, heavy plot armour, no heroes, almost no one has any real consequences, people are stupid and illogical, and there's always another "big bad".
>>222528906Joy
>>222529636>>222531965Based mods
>>222528906This was actually leaked here and of course anons thought it was fake
>>222532971Yeah, my issue is that if you hear a 30-second pitch for Breaking Bad it's one that cries out for realism, so when the show veers off into fantasy you're left tantalized by the thought of what could have been.Perhaps a flippant comparison, but I felt similarly disappointed by the movie Kick Ass. The idea of a real-life kid trying to become a superhero is a compelling one (and hell, I'll even grant his analgesic disorder as part of the premise), but then it leans so far into straight superhero shit that it totally undermines its own appeal.
>>222532971BB was never realistic, on ep 1 they show it's cartoony-ness. All protags have plot armor, with Walt it works within the show, he's a nerd over his head and bad shit does happen to him all the time, like his wife fucking Ted. The big bad was always the DEA and Gus, last season did shit the bed with the nazis tho.
>>222533223Season 1 was still far more realistic than the seasons that followed though. The whole thing is unrealistic to start with obviously but there's also a suspension of disbelief needed and the later seasons didn't even bother trying to stay real.
>>222528906>watching that trashFuck off fag
>>222533240Bro on S1, Walt blows up Tuco's hideout by throwing a little piece of fake meth on the groundShows like The Wire and The Sopranos were meant to be grounded even if they are still full of goofy shit. BB was always cartoony and over the top and embraces it to uts advantage.
>>222533416That was S1? I remembered that as S2 for some reason. I honestly haven't rewatched the show since the original airing. I've yet to watch The Wire either, I feel like it's overhyped for me at this rate.
>>222533151Kick Ass is a solid comparison, in contrast to something like Super (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1512235/)
>>222533438S1 of the wire is great and actually pretty well grounded that it was shown at Harvard to show how the drug trade actually works. As the seasons go, it get goofier but it's still a solid showGive the pilot a go
>>222533516I'll take a look, I've been wanting a new classic show to get into.
>>222528906>autists complain about the lack of realismIf this shit happened in reality Walt would be dead within a week >aging suburban dad gets cancer and retires from teaching high school to cook super duper amazeballs wondermeth and begins muscling in on cartel territoryYou've got to accept the premise as outlandish from the start and understand that it's not trying to document how this situation would play out in real life because that would be pants-on-head retarded Even if you came up with some more realistic version of it where Walt wasn't a magic drugmaking wizard supergenius he'd be slaughtered as soon as he became a credible threat and it'd be over before it even beganWhy are autists so lacking in basic media literacy?>this capeshit about invincible flying gods-among-men is so unrealistic, his laser eyes wouldn't work that way, they'd work the way I think they wouldShaking my damn head
>>222533416It works as an anime. Chemistry is walt's thing and that is basically him being a shounen protag. If they'd held onto that dynamic it could have been really cool, but they didn't know what they were making really.
>>222528906"Oh shit, the leaked image that was spammed on /tv/ for an entire year was totally right."
>>222528906It was fucking awesome. It was so cool when TV was on at a certain time and we all watched it together.
>>222533869I don't mean with /tv/. I mean society in general. My friends and family included. Coworkers. Everyone was talking about it. I'm sure /tv/ pretended they thought it sucked.
>>222529971yep
I watched this from ep 1 live every Sunday. Around this time in the show, I was getting real fatigued of it. When this moment happened, I noped and changed the channel lol.
>>222528906It was cool but him straightening his tie was too odd even at the time. But everyone just shrugged it off.
>>222528906This looks way too cartoony
>>222530815
>>222529985The most unrealistic part about that scene is the drug dealers even knowing who Hesinberg was. I doubt Gus was going around telling people about Walt and Jesse, and in the criminal underworld when someone is hit hard it could be the doing of literally any single one of their enemies; no one would openly confess to a hit of that magnitude because it effectively puts a hit on your back for even attempting such a thing.
>>222533240>The whole thing is unrealistic to start withThen quit your bitching
>>222533989>>222530815
>>222528906>>222533061>>222533649It was leaked on /tv/, though I don't think it was a year ahead, more like a week or two. Then when we saw his suit in the next episode preview, it was "confirmed" cause we matched the unique suit with the leak. Or at least I did. I explicitly remember freaking out and posting "HOLY FUCK IT'S FUCKING CONFIRMED THE LEAK IS REAL LOOK AT HIS SUIT IN THE NEXT EPISODE PREVIEW IT'S THE SAME SUIT"
>>222529842>>222530804I don't know about "barely" but the show became massively more popular when it came to streaming and all the fucking hype around the show by season 5 wasn't diehard fans but entirely newfag bandwagon hoppers. I can say this with authority cause I was watching the show (pirated as it aired) by mid season 2. I was watching the show when they were still airing commercials for Breaking Bad season 2 on network television.
It was spoiled weeks before it aired, but nobody believed it
>>222529396The say my name scene is literally one of the worst in the series. It was cool and hype when watching it live because it's new and exciting and you're along for the ride and don't know how far Walt is going to go with things, it's still cool to watch him flex, but that specific scene really doesn't hold up after. It becomes too cartoonish.Unrelated to Walt, Jesse's big speech in the hospital about what he's going to do to Hank... In the moment, live, watching that, probably 15 years ago I was like "whoa, holy shit Jesse" and now it's just incredibly, unbearably cringe. The "I am the danger" speech still holds up. But it's normalfag power fantasy bait. Lines like in the scene with Hank where Hank is almost crying over the loss of his brother in law, heartbroken over the reality standing in front of him in his garage, and Walt seeming to take a measured compassionate sort of stance at first with "If you really don't know who I am... your best course of action..." soft voice, as if he's sympathetic and almost pleading, only to drop his octave and become more clear and stern with "would be to tread lightly". That is one of the hardest Walt lines in the show. And Bryan Cranston's personal favorite likely for all the reasons I listed above.
>>222529842Speak for yourself retard. There were watch threads and streams here for every new episode since mid s2 at the absolute latest. Normalfag late adopters were fully invested by the middle of s3.
>>222536100You just became jaded and bitter so everything cool is now cringe to you. Don't act like it's some societal shift and everyone agrees with you. You just forgot how to have fun.
Does anyone have that Jojos copy pasta of Gus getting blown up?
>>222532916There's a point where they are happily cooking for Gus and then Jesse decides they're not getting paid enough so starts dealing on the side. That had nothing to do with Walt's ego. Most of Walt's conflict with Gus came down to being too loyal to his junkie partner.
>>222536795I am still 100% ride or die with Walt and his goals and choices and am in his corner. I don't even dislike the fulminated mercury scene, I can suspend my disbelief and still enjoy it. Just a few of the later decisions the writers made are so up their own ass. And it is also clear post-Breaking Bad but also in season 5 that they transitioned from still being somewhat in Walt's corner to going obnoxious with their characterization. In Better Call Saul, the whole flashback with Walt and Saul is incredibly obnoxious. Walt had been established prior to have a capacity for the abstract, poetic, artistic, hypothetical. The way he shuts down Saul and his "time machine" shit is such a fucking assassination of him to appeal to the new reddit male-feminist Walt hating audience. They make him an obnoxious fucking autistic redditor. But not Mike, Mike is fine with the time machine quote, not our favorite serial killer wholesome grandpa chungus. The philosophy of the modern audience is that Walt is completely unsympathetic and evil from fucking season 1 or 2 even before Jane (which is another can of worms, an obvious one where normalfags are concerned, but still don't get me started on how justified he was in letting Jane die) and at least by Better Call Saul it seems like they agreed with that. Also the entire ending of Better Call Saul is essentially giving a speech putting down Walt for his stupidity as a criminal. Granted Saul was instrumental but still.
>>222532916>>222536873People are fucking retarded. They literally think Jesse is the "moral center" of the show (which the writers come around to by the end by giving him a "good ending"). They also think Mike is a totally cool guy despite the fact he was 100% on board with murdering Jesse out of pragmatism. Because those two fucking retarded looking street level gangbangers are Gus' "trusted employees" who are allowed to meet with him, his top muscle, and his two top cooks and see all their faces because they're his trusted employees he really, really cares about. Their bussies must have been incredible. Gus' favorite male holes. But I digress.Jesse, the guy who gets his girlfriend killed by causing her to backslide into drugs. Jesse, the guy who decides 1.5 million for 3 months isn't worth it so he starts STEALING FROM HIS BOSS. Jesse, the guy who starts selling to people in recovery after killing his girlfriend in recovery because being a millionaire isn't enough. Which WALT, the GREEDY, EGOMANIAC DEVIL, who knew exactly how much Gus was making, told him was greedy and stupid.ALL of Walter's problems are because he is loyal to Jesse and sees him as a surrogate son. But these people actually believe Walt doesn't care about him. He saves Jesse's life literally like, 6 fucking times.
>>222533151>it's one that cries out for realismIt explicitly doesn't. If it was a le epic bacon grounded immersive sim, Walt would've been dead or in jail by the end of the pilot
>>222529636Season 5 predictions:https://archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/18838348
>>222529636Smartest /tv/ poster
>>222529842Even my out of touch boomer dad got on during season 1
>>222528906stupid anime bullshit
>>222528906I've always seen this scene as a metaphor. like in reality he died on the spot or crawled or stumbled there, and this scene is just a representation of his sheer bewilderment. like if you died suddenly without even realising it and continued doing whatever you were doing in the spirit form.
>>222536955>Because those two fucking retarded looking street level gangbangers are Gus' "trusted employees" who are allowed to meet with him, his top muscle, and his two top cooks and see all their faces because they're his trusted employees he really, really cares about.Genuinely the biggest problem with the show. This plot point keeps me up at night.
>>222532935Mike was completely full of shit and only redditors think his little spergout is him epically owning Walt and putting him into his place with facts and logic. In reality that was just a hamfisted attempt by the creators to remind people Walt was supposed to be le heckin villain but they accidentally forgot to show it. Walt's "ego issue" was not wanting to be murdered.
Why was he a terminator?
>>222531783it gets even worse since gus already had access to 96% pure meth via galegus, who has been carefully planning for several years now, took this massive gamble involving outsiders just to boost it to 99 percent
In retrospect, the show was so fucking goofy. I like how these two guys Walt intimidates are literally Discount Walt & Jesse.
>>222539345That's like some Shelbyville doppelganger shit.
