It's kino. Gunfighting in movies works best if it's either hyper stylized like John Woo's The Killer or Equilibrium, or the exact opposite and almost instantaneous like the car shooting in A Prophet or the confrontation toward the end of The Killing.
Equilibrium's is obviously kind of cringe at times but it's still a standout in cinematic gunfighting because it's so rare to see a movie actually try to do something truly unique with guns.
Coming from someone who shoots a lot of guns, they are inherently anti-cinematic because there is no movement involved, you just point and click. You have to get creative to make them cinematic. Martial arts on the other hand are inherently cinematic.
