It's a shame the legacy has been ruined with so many shitty sequels, but the original really had a perfect story. I remember seeing it when I was a kid and didn't at all understand a cop hating a soldier and my dad had to explain what the world was like at that time.

I liked We Were Soldiers because it focused on an unusual tactical aspect, and I assume people either "get" Gibson's hyper pathos or roll their eyes at it, but as a movie (to me) it does not hold up to the other 3.
