What's your favorite Vietnam war film
>>
>>222530783
That one. Platoon’s a close second then FMJ
>>
>>222530783
Apocalypse Now > FMJ > Platoon
We Were Soldiers would be vastly improved by removing every scene with a woman.

You posted it. This movie is so epic, nothing else that is about the Vietnam war compares to it.
The worst 'nam movie I have seen was the Deer Hunter tho. Overrated and a waste of time. Also, John Rambo 1 does better job at portraying how veterans cannot adapt to civvie life and war related ptsd, than Deer Hunter does.
>but muh wedding scene
should have been a 15min scene tops
>>
Deer Hunter mogs all for the Russian Roulette scene alone.
>>
>>222531401
Oh I forgot to put Deer Hunter in this list >>222530949
It's pretty good it's better than Platoon and Platoon's decent.
>>
>>222531585
i dont know, Platoon is definitely weaker than apocalypse now and full metal jacket, but the soundtrack is iconic enough to be a better movie than deer hunter in my opinion. For me, even Good Morning Vietnam mogs Deer hunter

I respect this thought as a soundtrack appreciator.

apocalypse now isn't really about the vietnam war the way those other movies are
>>
>>222532330
You're kind of right but it's just never going to be excluded from these threads.
>>
>>222530783
That or Full Metal Jacket, both are utter kino. I'd still pick Apocalypse Now over FMJ any day though and usually do.
>>
>>222531401
>John Rambo 1 does better job at portraying how veterans cannot adapt to civvie life and war related ptsd
Kino film. It's a shame the legacy has been ruined with so many shitty sequels, but the original really had a perfect story. I remember seeing it when I was a kid and didn't at all understand a cop hating a soldier and my dad had to explain what the world was like at that time.
>>
>>222532330
Sometimes it's the journey and not the destination, which is what Apocalypse Now did really well. You get to follow along through the absolute insanity of the war happening around them.
>>
diddy mao!
>>

Same with FMJ.

AN would have been so much better without the stupid comedian.

Actually it's Apocalypse Climax parts I & II

Two types of plebs when discussing vietnam kinos:
>guy who doesn't like second half of FMJ
>guy who doesn't appreciate the wedding in Deer Hunter

Huh?

Oh you haven't heard of zoomers only liking the bootcamp scenes?
>>
>>222530783
Still waiting for the sequel, Apocalypse Later.

Every Vietnam War thread is just the same four or five movies posted over and over again.

Platoon.
FMJ is half a Vietnam movie, the better half is boot camp.
Apocalypse Now is one of my favorite movies of all time, but it just happens to be set in Vietnam.

I liked We Were Soldiers because it focused on an unusual tactical aspect, and I assume people either "get" Gibson's hyper pathos or roll their eyes at it, but as a movie (to me) it does not hold up to the other 3.

I guess since it was 80s, they had to turn him into a macho action hero according to the trends of that time and capitalise from it. This switcheroo worked, but it definitely made normies to forget how Rambo started

100%. Dunno how fags get this wrong, it's not even close really. Oliver Stone is a meme, as are his films.
>>
>>222532627
I still liked part 2 no matter how cheesy it is. Better than Commando by a large margin.
>>
>>222530783
Anyone saying anything other than Platoon is a retard and should stop posting in this website.

I think I need to re-watch that one, I saw it too early and bot very bored as it just kept going on and on.
Knowing what I know now, I should re-watch it.

Tropic Thunder

First Blood Part 2
>>
>>222539145
There's some director's re-cut where they add 40 minutes of just hanging out on some French plantation in the middle of the jungle. If that was the one you saw, I can believe it that it bored you.
>>
platoon by far. realist one.

it mentions the drug problem in vietnam.

it is like a documentary.
>>
>>222534268
Not that guy but I haven't. I love the entire movie, it's one of my favorites.

I watched Platoon when I was a kid and thought it was great, but I don't remember most of it.

I got filtered hard with Apocalypse Now. Was bored from start to finish, some parts were too slow or just plain weird.
>>
>>222540992
'extended edition' or it's ilk sounds like what I witnessed. Is it worth a re-watch?
>>
>>222542150
I don't think there is an "extended" cut.
>>
>>222530783
As a kid I learned that the people in Waco were only allowed to watch Hamburger Hill, Platoon and Full Metal Jacket
>>
>>222542324
Well then that is a bit of a a shame.
Is it worth a re wa =t ch+?
