The Aviator.
while we happen to be discussing films and television, what's your favorite episode? What's an obscure episode you like? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wpJB3F90z4I held off on most of the terrorist bombing eps because there's no mystery but I'm enjoying this one. Now getting down to a bare few left.

>>222530870Magnificent Men And Their Flying MachinesWhite Diamond - It has the hangars/location of the plane scene, which are in England somewhere. They're distinctive XXL hangars for airships.Flight of the Phoenix - couldn't get into the 2000s version yetHonorable mention Castle in the Sky, which really dwells on the fantasy aviation as though most of the movie takes place in the same sky-land porco and nausicaa only fly through briefly. Aviation as inverted sailing on a windy ocean, with homely ships and pirates, the lost father in a storm that carried his ship to other lands. That tethered glider design would probably work with few changes, either brit or americans tried that with a regular basket and the movement was too insane.

>>222530870>>222533569this movie is extremely comfy but its a 90 minute message of "how amazing is NYC when shit goes wrong"
>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tragedy_at_KufraSupposedly this inspired Flight of the Phoenix although there's not much similarity beyond getting lost in the Libyan desert.

>>222534097Nausicaa nor Castle in the Sky even begin to compare to Porco in this space.
>>222536264The actual sea performs that role just fine in Porco. The sky is a place of stress and trauma for him whether that was intentional or not
'Flight into Danger' (1956), a Canadian teleplay starring James Doohan as a war veteran whose past piloting experience comes to be needed when the pilots on the airplane he's riding in become ill from tainted food. It was remade several times under the 'Flight into Danger' name, and eventually made into a film named 'Zero Hour' (1962). You likely know it best from the parody of the films, 'Airplane!' (1980).Weird thing about the original teleplay is that a copy of it still exists, which is somewhat rare for a teleplay of that era. The CBC has it in its vault and refuses to release it to the public. The only way to view it is to get special permission from the government of Canada, and even then, you can only view it in a special room attached to the CBC archive vault.
