In the original story, Valdemar's body becomes decrepit to the point where he can only communicate by rapidly vibrating his tongue to produce a low-pitched, barely human moan. I don't know if there's been an adaptation with that detail, but I find the vibrating tongue to be the creepiest part

Just finished. Welp, the eternal spamming worked and I finally checked this out. I'd heard of it long before the spamming, but I wasn't that interested, I'm not an FF fan, and this didn't do much to change my mind. The director's lead performance is very naturalistic and funny, but this is one of the dullest experiences possible, huge chunks are just him looking at audio waveforms. Whatever, I don't even care enough to criticize this. I don't care what the backstory/explanation/whatever is, just glad it's over and I saw it so I know what anyone who brings it up is talking about. 1.5 out of 5 stars. Fuck found footage.

I'm fine with it, could be way worse. They'll probably fuck it up though.
I read that some retarded tiktok chick is making Jeff into a film though, which raises the most interesting point. Who owns these things? They're as good as public domain horrors, so there might be annoying studio battles over it.

Yes, all of them. AASB and especially Be My Cat are excellent. WNUF is my one of my Halloween Night traditions. I'm not saying FF can't be good, but it's by far my least favorite genre and I expect 1 in 100 to actually be good.
>>
>>222537336
>AASB and especially Be My Cat are excellent
Yeah, they stand out among the movies, so does REC in my opinion. But you're right, the problem with found footage horror is so many of the movies are incredibly boring, they have 10-20 minutes where they build a tense atmosphere (if that) and then another 60 minutes of characters wandering around doing fuck all and occasionally gasping, then the ending is they just drop the camera and make a loud noise if you're lucky, or it's like Leaving DC where they came as close as possible to doing NOTHING at all, while still technically doing something for the ending. There are a lot of terrible conventional horror films but they are at least better than the found footages.
>>
>>222537336
>I expect 1 in 100 to actually be good.
Slightly unfair as there seems to be 100x more of them
>>
>>
this general overrates REC, it was good but not as outstanding as people say

alright, just finished. This is another Donald Farmer produced anthology, this time the theme is (shocker) Undead Nuns. I was hoping for something mind-melting like Gaggle or Catnado was, and this has its moments of near-Dadaism, but it's actually not that terrible? Both those webms are from the opening segment which is clearly the best one. I think I've turned the corner where stuff made by people who have no idea what they're doing is much more interesting to me than "real" movies. They're much more unpredictable.

(HALLOWEEN)

> The Miramax Halloween series treats Myers faithfully like a unstoppable supernatural phantom & has nudity.

> More stand alone Halloween comics like Nightdance. Maybe mini series that each follow up a different continuity in the series...
>- Myers & the cult hunting Jamie's baby after 6.
>- Adapt the early H7 script about Myers stalking a girls boarding school.
>- Myers hunting Laurie's son after H20.
>- Adapt the script for Rob Zombie's Halloween 3.
>- Adapt the script for Halloween Returns that was planned before the 2018 movie pitch.

> The earlier scripts for Halloween 4 are released online, I wanna see how Myers was defeated in the version of the script that had Sheriff Meeker fight Myers to the death in his basement resulting in his house burning down.

> The cut footage of the H5 police station massacre & Meeker's death are found & released despite their absence in the recent Blu-Ray that had the Dr Death opening (we know it was filmed because we have a BTS pic of Meeker getting shot)

> The full Face of Michael Myers short film is made despite the original kickstarter failing. Prelude Short - https://youtu.be/wCAxcOmVCNs
>>
>>222540712

(OTHER SLASHERS)

> Scream 8 Onward - Sydney does not become a killer & is not killed off unless it's a respectful successful heroic sacrifice. Maybe have the film take place in snowy weather & invert Ghost Face's colors so he will blend in with the environment.

> The Blumhouse My Bloody Valentine reboot is on par with Halloween (18).
> It makes better more suspenseful use of the mine than the 09 remake did.
> Has nudity like 09.

> If they reboot ANOES again and wish to return Freddy to the horror & humor balance they got perfect in 3, consider Tom Hiddleston.

> The reboot/sequel to Madman (81) does not have a feminist bent to it despite the original film's producer claiming he plans to give it such (ignoring how great & strong of a final girl Gaylen Ross was in the original)

> Some more obscure non franchise slasher films get sequels/reboots with new stories. I would like to see something done with The Slayer or Superstition (both from 1982)

> A new serious toned slasher with a Samurai killer.

> We get Zodiac (07) / From Hell / The Town that Dreaded Sundown style slasher/murder mystery movies about the real life Axeman of New Orleans & the Hinterkaifeck farm massacre.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axeman_of_New_Orleans
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinterkaifeck
>>
>>222540712
>>222540759

(OTHER HORROR)

> We get a period piece Conjuring spin off about the samurai armor in the Warren's collection, maybe set during the occupation of Japan?

> We get some more horror & slasher films set near the sea/on ships, make use of moody harbors, docks & foggy nights. A undead Sea Captain slasher would be cool.

> We get further mostly serious toned theatrically released killer animal films like The Shallows & Crawl. Ideally ones with oversized Scorpions and Octopuses. Remake of Tentacles (1977)?
> Crawl 2 is on par with the first.

> Antje Traue is cast as The Bride of Frankenstein, if that film in Universal's Dark Universe moves forward.

> If the Dark Universe moves forward, Dracula Untold is reinstated into canon. I want more of Luke Evan's take on the character.

> More Pumpkinhead movies.

> Cabin in the Woods anthology series with each episode (maybe every 2 episodes) being a different cast facing a different monster. Some arcs will focus on the folks in the Cabin & some will focus on the staff in the base dealing with capturing monsters out in the wild or having to deal with them getting loose.

> A B&W tribute movie to 1950s monster movies is that actually is fairly serious & well budgeted. Builds up mystery & suspense for the 1st 3rd.

> Galaxy of Terror prequel about Captain Trantor surviving the massacre of the Hesperus crew by aliens 25 years before.

Should Halloween have continued as an anthology series with a variety of short stories for Halloween, with successfull branches having their own subtitle?

Dream Project
A movie about Jason Vorhees surviving in the woods as a kid.
>Pamela Vorhees is shown to have severe mental illness but
>she's a single nurse and self-medicates to keep the voices down but she doesn't know what she's doing and uses old discontinued meds
>As a result Jason is born hydrocephalic, autistic, and deformed. He doesn't process pain like other people and is non-verbal
>Pamela dotes on Jason but hallucinates him talking to her so she keeps trying to prove he's "normal" because she feels bad that she's the reason he is the way he is

>after Jason "drowns" he makes it to shore and survives off roadkill
>he watches poachers and learns how to kill animals for survival
>Pamela stops taking her medication and full on hallucinates Jason all the time
>she stalks all the counselors who were supposed to be watching Jason and finds ways to kill them without getting caught
>Jason kills a hunter who startles him and takes over his cabin which falls into disrepair

>Time skip
>Pamela deteriorates and goes to great lengths to put on a "good show"
>Jason gets overwhelmed by stimuli so he wears a burlap sack mask to help him cope
>he gets buff from consuming almost entirely protein and killing animals with his bare hands
>he watches his mom from afar but doesn't interact with her
>A rare endangered species starts populating in the Crystal Lakes region but the local wildlife authorities don't know about it, so poachers start moving in. They start to take all of Jason's kills making hunting much harder for him
>he doesn't feel pain but he does begin to starve

>Jason finally reveals himself to his mom, but she doesn't even register him and keeps hallucinating him as a kid, she doesn't hug him and this is the emotional climax of the movie
>Jason watches her kill the kids in the first movie and die
>Jason goes on to kill the poachers who we've been introduced to throughout the movie including a "good guy" poacher who's set up as the antagonist

REC is very good, especially for the standards of the found footage genre. Its still a bottle film, but it has two things that plenty of horror films still have problems with, a good sense of pacing while maintaining a great level of intensity. It also helps that there's basically no out of place ambient tracks or nonsensical jump scare sounds effects like Diary of the Dead, it does its best to really commit to feeling like a piece of "found footage".
>>

>>
>>222556383
Exactly. Asylums are just natural kino environments. It also has a movie arc because at the end he obviously could murder a bunch of orderlies and get free. Yeah that's not canon but you could put it in there anyway.
Realistically I bet they'd make Dr. Loomis black.
>>
>>222555656
Shutter Island is basically a pseudo remake of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari which is considered a horror film, but because it was released in 2010 when the horror genre was heavily commercialized by Hollywood in the preceding decade and was basically nothing but low effort Saw sequels and gory remakes of 70s and 80s classics and foreign films it's viewed as a "psychological thriller" instead which is more respectable for a director like Scorsese. It will be interesting to see if his upcoming psychological horror film will be considered horror this time or if they're gonna market it as a thriller again.
>>

Decent slasher, worth a watch I'd say, but the main problem with this movie is that it feels like two movies that never quite mesh together. Which is a shame because both the dramatic/character development side, and the slasher side, were well executed independent of one another. The failure to combine the two made this just ok when it could have been above average. Either way, it's also a bit too long and drags at times.

Humanoids From The Deep, tits, rape and all, is currently openly available on Youtube, no sign-in or anything. Very low quality and blocky nips, but still. The lady in the tent was quite cute, but the harsh craggy shoreline made the beach frolicking a bit unbelievable (hey let's frolick and attempt sex out here two miles away down the cliff where it's cold as shit!). There are also 1:1 comparisons with Aliens, especially the lady slamming the brakes on the car and then running over the monster which was just on the roof.

A really enjoyable movie, overall. Comfy 70s interiors (the main house set), lots of thematic connections around those days, and they have the balls to kill a kid, show plenty of nice tits, and give a plausible exposition for why all the monster rape. Several amusing explosions to boot. The main interesting feature of the monsters are the elongated hands.

That may be a slightly goofy monster but it actually looks pretty kino. You can see a bit of xenomorph, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and the vat zombie from Return of the Living Dead. So the film appears to be derivative from what I can tell from the outside, but it's funny that Dan O Bannon possibly even took influence from that monster when creating the vat zombie.

Nobody ever said every thriller is a horror movie, but for instance are you able to define what horror is? Or what a thriller is? Or how and why they overlap so much? Because I don't think you do, and I don't think most people do when they get pressed. And it is a fact that Hollywood has taken advantage of this overlap and ambiguity between these two genres for decades and decades and has marketed many a horror film as a thriller looking to expand their potential market and increaes their chances at winning major film awards such as the Academy Awards which historically has looked down on genre fiction. The Saturn Awards was created specifically for genre fiction (fantasy, science fiction and horror) in 1973 because it was so well known. Your idea of horror and thriller has been dictated by marketing and you don't even realize it, yet you still want to act smugly arrogant on a subject you don't have any clue of. I despise horror fans like you.

If you can't articulate your opinions properly then keep them to yourself. The biggest mistake of the internet was making idiots believe they deserve to have a voice and their ill-informed opinions are worth listening to and it's made them arrogant because they tend to congregate towards echo chambers full of people who either hold the same views and opinions as they do or that are equally as clueless where they will rarely get challenged in any meaningful way. Horror fans have become so used to just saying "this movie isn't a horror, it's a thriller" and their excuse they like to tell themselves if they get pressed to elaborate on what they actually mean when they say that, when they inevitably end up dodging the question 9/10 times, is just like what you're doing right now, that it's "so obvious" so they shouldn't "need" to explain anything. Now THAT'S pattern recognition. Thanks for proving my point though.
