It's like Day of the Dead, but not shot like a porno. Aesthetically kind of interesting. Feels like it probably inspired a lot of modern post-apocalyptic depictions.
>>222534729Really didn't like the desert setting. Found it boring compared to the environments in the other films.
>>222534801I'm a huge sucker for Australian apocalyptic visions, so I really dug it. I do wish Dave Johnson the cinematographer had stuck around. He was actually hugely involved in early Anderson stuff. He did The Sight, Resident Evil, Alien vs. Predator, then Extinction, but got replaced by Glen McPherson for some reason on basically every other PWSA film.
>>222534729>>222534801it would be really fun if it wasn't resident evil
>>222538319What do you mean? The film is innately Resident Evil.
It's interesting how each film in the first trilogy shows the expanding sphere of Umbrella's influence and hubris. Hive -> City -> World. The corporation responds to everything going to shit by throwing some guard-rails on their rogue AI, inventing voice cloning text to speech tech that definitely won't be abused, and then trying to find a way to turn zombies into free labour so they continue being capitalist in the ashes of civilization. It's mad because Umbrella's business model is mad. Its lack of regard for human life and human value is mad.
>>222534729>>222534801>>222536407>>222539313Best of the series!(PROS)> Desert setting is great & gritty.> Scenes with the cast exploring & foraging for food in dark abandoned buildings gives us some of the most suspense/mood of the series.> Best cinematography & use of light/shadows of the series.> Milla's acting is fairly better than in the first 2 films.> Her battles with the dual machetes is badass without being too over the top.> Action in general is better shot than in Apocalypse.> Alice's outfit is the best of the series. Very sexy but the big jacket hides how small and frail her arms are.> Oded Fehr from the Mummy films is solid here.> Ali Larter is good as Claire Redfield but underused.> Iain Glen as Dr Isaacs is the best villain of the series with a rational approaching altruistic motive here.(CONS)> What ends up happening to Isaacs is generic & wasteful.> Final battle was not bad but kinda anti-climatic.> No Jill.> The notable digital airbrushing on Milla's face for close ups.> The characters making poor decisions (LJ not revealing his bite, the cast wasting ammo instead of focusing on head shots)
>>222540628I prefer 1, I love the lab setting and it has based Marc Antony. The red queen ai was so good they added it to the actual games
No, we are contrarian'ing ourselves into saying these movies are any good. They are all utter crap, and not ironically enjoyable.
>>222541996They are crap in comparison to their contemporaries. In 2026, it's rare to get movies on location with real actors and makeup.
>>222541996Extinction is easily the best film Russell Mulcahy ever made. It avoids a lot of the meandering indulgences of stuff like Highlander.
>>222542090>They are crap in comparison to their contemporaries. What contemporaries? They don't really HAVE contemporaries. The closest anyone has gotten is World War Z.
>>222534729it's the best and only good one besides 2has good characters and has good aesthetics
>>222540628that's not a machete that's a kukri
>>222540628>> The notable digital airbrushing on Milla's face for close ups. They had to do that because Milla got sunburned during the shoot.
