Movies about Japan's rise from the ruins of nuclear destruction to becoming one a global superpower?
>>

How is it possible that Japan and Germany could do it, but no African countries?
>>
Easy Answer: Godzilla Minus Zero
Hard Answer: Watching two dozen movies produced during this period and taking place in it

Sorry I meant minus 1. Got confused since the sequel was announced

It's crazy watching those old videos about Hiroshima and Nagasaki with just miles and miles of broken rubble. And those little japs just cleaned it all up with shovels and wheelbarrows and made it better in a few years. Who else could do the same, really?

A lot of functional civilizations. Think about it: an atomic bomb has a core that can fit in your hand. Do you think the 'fallout' from such a thing is really that bad? It isn't. Reactor meltdowns are a different matter since they have a ton of shit in them. But conflating the two is useful for antinuclear activists.

They admittedly were provided a ton of help in the form of resources and manpower, especially from the Americans, as part of the post-war "reconstruction effort".

firebombing of dresden was comparable or what the blitz did to london

I guess the first period appropriate answer is Tokyo Story. They did it by becoming impersonal drones who ignored even their families in favor of workworkwork.

Any of the Godzillas.
It helps they're fun movies too.

Also would a reconstruction of Detroit help with the global economy? Why haven't they done that?

I wonder that too. They say it's because America stopped manufacturing cars. But I keep seeing American cars on the road, all the time, everywhere. But it seems more like they just stopped doing it in that specific place. I wonder why. It's really a mystery, that we'll never know the answer to.

Nobody was interested in full-scale investment in Africa. The extent of their interest is basically mines and cash crops, both of which being resource extraction fields that use basic labour and don't necessitate economic advancement to be effective.
