The CGI for its time was revolutionary, and from a historical standpoint has great value. Eddie Furlong and the orange kid were beloved by kids that age at that time, they seemed like cool kids dealing with adults, not bad actors. The T800 has been reprogrammed to protect John. The pacing in the middle is necessary calm before the storm, and we get important story details and character info. The catchphrases were iconic at the time, joked about, then that fad was over; they still have great historic value. T2 is regarded for these reasons, and because it holds up. It’s a masterpiece.
