I think it’s interesting how the first two episodes, which were co-written by Bret Easton Ellis, were good, and then subsequent episodes, farmed out to some random millennial bitch, take a nosedive. Suddenly the 1980’s teens are talking about “hydrating” and “wanting to appear on the white LA version of Soul Train” (??) The character who is supposed to be a straight teenager in 1981 is suddenly talking about Capote’s Black and White party. They made sure to include a three second scene of casual racism so we the viewers know that the 80’s weren’t all good. The tone just lurches into this BAD pastiche of Ellis with all of these millennial tells. Who the fuck is this Juli Wiener person and why does Ryan Murphy keep entrusting his projects to random millennial women who went to Barnard?
Its set in the 80s? I thought it was set in the early 2000s??? What a waste
>>222540218>Bret Easton Ellisdude is obsessed with himself, everything he does "semi-biographical" 80s yuppy bullshit
>>222540245I’m more interested in his perspective than that of some woman who wrote for John Oliver though
>>222540245Kino
>>222540300except now he's just making inferior versions of his previous work, even the lead actress looks like a bad copy of Jami Gertz in Less than Zero.
>>222540390Ok but demonstrably it’s superior to the same but done by some clueless woman. Juli, please log off and go back to writing television shows.
I forgot to mention one real awful part. Joan Didion is mentioned quite a lot in the book which makes sense because Ellis loves talking about her influence. But in one of the latest episodes, the Bret character says, “I was telling myself a story in order to live.” That’s millennial female writing.
>>222540695I don't know who that lady is but the scapegoating for bad writing is pure cope, he's a one hit wonder writer hack and this show will be swiftly cancelled after 1 season.
>>222540782This is a problem characteristic of Ryan Murphy shows though. Typically they start out strong when he’s the most involved, and then after 2 or 3 episodes he lets a female showrunner take over. I just don’t get why he keeps doing it because everybody has this complaint about his projects even if they don’t diagnose what’s causing it
How do you see "hulu" and "Disney" and think "yep this is gonna be some good TV"?
>>222540218>bret ellis>ryan murphyi bet this is the gayest show in the history of gay hollywood shows
>>222540924They’re making it less gay than the book, and less intelligent
>>222540390>Jami Gertz in Less than ZeroNobody can compare
>>222540218>he expected it to be good
>>222541162The first two episodes are great
>>222541697Absolutely not
>>222540924There are multiple gay men and boys lusting over each other from the very first episode. It's literally the gayest show I've ever seen.Dropped
>>222540245I assumed he was an old man by now, WTF do you mean he has a Patreon and a podcast?
first two episodes were ok, three and four were pure shit.like what the fuck was going on with that cellar? so bret walks into a basement that is obviously some makeshift prison and there's blood on the stuff and a school jacket. and then the episode ends and that part is not brought up again and everyone, including bret, goes to a party thrown in the honor of the dude whose basement he discovered and it's all cool until he hears some gossip from two randos, whispers it to the allegedly bad guy who proceeds to go nuts from hearing that info??? and the blonde girl got held at a knifepoint, but didn't give a flying fuck about it the next day?i have seriously no idea why it is i'm watching.
>watching Disneyshit in 2026One of the surest indicators of retardation
>>222541868The change of tone in the third and fourth episodes really convey an open contempt for the source material, not to mention the viewer’s intelligence. Like is it supposed to be for Gen Z? Then why sell it using the Ellis brand. Or is this what the “BEE” brand represents for gen z?
>>222541868>he hears some gossip from two randosI haven't read the book, but it wasn't even some randos. They were both middle school friends of the guy who coincidentally moved from Chicago to LA at the same time as him and ran into him at a mall. That's really stupid.
>>222540218The first two episodes had been written for ages, back when the show was set to air on HBO and Ellis killed the project because HBO didn't like the two scripts and wanted Ellis to basically trash them and write something along the lines of Euphoria (as HBO only was interested in Shards back when they didn't know if Euphoria S3 was even going to happen). As part of the deal with Murphy, Murphy basically filmed the first two episodes as written by Ellis. Everything else is pure Murphy and Ellis/Murphy immediately clashed over the rest of the season, leading to Ellis politely exiting production of the show since Ellis was already persona no grata over opposing woke and Murphy took a lot of crap even working with Ellis.
>>222541773Ellis got in on the ground floor of the mid-10s podcast book and found a niche as a center right gay guy celebrity who hates woke and wants to go back to the 80s.
>>222543193That fucking sucks. The first two episodes are kino. The book is kino, its probably better than Less Than Zero. There is no justice.
>>222540218>Who the fuck is this Juli Wiener person and why does Ryan Murphy keep entrusting his projects to random millennial women who went to Barnard?>WienerI think we know
