NWR's latest ego-project makes Megalopolis look like a fucking insightful masterpiece....What the hell went so wrong? Can some danish anon offer some insight into the process of Refn's total ensihittification?
>>
He needs Goose
>>

his visual style is stuck in 2016
>>

Kino of the year tbqhwyf. Brian de Palma is rolling in his grave for not getting a soundtrack half as good as this one from Pino

what a douchebag lol

Went way to far up his own ass after drive, waaay too far up there

His company is called byNWR Originals. What a fucking joke
>>
Felt too short to me. Like it was just getting into the third act then it ends.

Pretty but the story is very thin.
>>
>>222541235
Dialogue is absolute dogshit though. Like if a bunch of SNL writers tried to make a parody of Neon Demon
>>
ITT: White trash 25yo kids on a board that praises comic book movies and Uwe Boll pretend they have valid opinions on movies. It's like asking some random Jamal on a street corner in Baltimore what he thinks.

what's up Refn, see any bright colors lately?

He needs someone to write the movies for him, he can't write for shit

I relish in the fact that you said this while being incapable of writing a complete sentence.

The ensihittification started before you even noticed it. His early movies are way better and Mads is miles better than Golsing.

NWR has a really interesting style but he desperately needs some kind of filmmaking partner who can help him turn it into a watchable product

The world has changed too much for his idea of yakuza fashion etc to be some edgy insight. Only the young women in skimpy clothes bait always works, but why doesn't he stick to admitting to be a corporate tool with stylish fashion reels for fashion houses. Drive worked cos it's like In a Lonely place, a character piece but without dialog just presence and movement.

Satan's lies. It's fun when I don't even have to try.

Not too many, though. Don't want to scare him off with too much style.

Refn is an insane person. Quite intelligent, but his worldview is genuinely schizophrenic. Seen his two streaming shows, and they are about higher-consciousness aliens being humanity's sole hope against total nihilistic depravity and civilizational collapse.
>>
>>222542144
Pusher is dogshit.
>>
>>222545914
>higher-consciousness aliens being humanity's sole hope against total nihilistic depravity and civilizational collapse.
Thinking about, it might not even have been an against, but rather a what comes after. Very schizophrenic either way.

>his visual style is stuck in 2016
He's too fixated on neon lighting and synth/italo disco music. He should have done something completely different since this was his first new flick in a decade and he needed a clean slate after what a letdown Copenhagen Cowboy was. I guess he's got his head up his ass since even Billy Friedkin had to put him in his place when NWR was referring to his own flicks as masterpieces.

>>
>>222541074
He's a nepobaby, what do you expect? His dad was friends with Lars von Trier. How else do you think NWR "got funding" to make Pusher when he was only like 24.
>>
>>222541647
Funny how Drive is easily the most popular flick he directed and it's the only screenplay he didn't have a hand in writing.
>>
>>222545453
>He was always style over substance, since getting famous he needed a tard wrangler
Copenhagen Cowboy is proof of this. It was like he was just making it up as he went along, without an actual script. Haven't seen Her Private Hell yet.
>>
>>222547235
>Billy Friedkin had to put him in his place
That guy with one good movie that only boomers care about? Ooooooo..... so told...
>>222547305

NEPO! NEPO! AHHHHHHH!
>>
>>222545816
>Drive worked cos it's like In a Lonely place, a character piece but without dialog just presence and movement.
He didn't write the script for Drive, that's why it worked.
>>
>>222540958
This is not even close to being as shit as Megalawlpolis. Easily the best film of 2020s, visually at least.
>>
>>222547490
>That guy with one good movie that only boomers care about?
Friedkin mogs Refn's filmography big time; The Exorcist, Sorcerer, To Live and Die in LA, etc. Refn has never made a single movie as good as any of those.
>>
>>222547562
>Sorcerer
I knew you'd be one of those tards.

Denmark already had like 5 million people back then.

>Can some danish anon
not danish but here's my 2 cents
>be young danish director
>start out aping tarantino to great success
>be gassed up and start believing you're the next coppola
>gain more freedom from producers
>attempts to penetrate the american market with extremely self indulgent student film tier slop
I know it's a british production but the film takes place in america with american actors
>get wrecked so bad you go back danishstan with your tail between your legs
>get back to basics and release arguably the best film in the pusher trilogy
>goes on a roll with kino after kino
>puts hardy on the map
>successfully enters the american market with a banger perfectly blending artistry and 80s-esque action
>contributes to making the goose an a-lister
>is gassed up again, gains more freedom again
>makes yet another self indulgence fest
>tries to appeal to wider audience with a horror flick capitalizing on a young rising star
>releases to middling reviews
>realize you can't reign yourself in, but you also think too highly of yourself to try having wider appeal
>at this point you give up and starts taking money from whomever will fund your very niche, very autistic productions that no one ever watches
I think The Neon Demon broke him because it was one time he tried being mainstream again and failed. Failing when you try hurts more than failing when you don't, and if you only make unwatchable ego-projects nobody can say you failed because it was only meant to be watched by your 6 /tv/ superfans anyway. Bronson is a very artsy but it's still a very fun film, carried by Hardy. Valhalla Rising despite being good is still very much in the weird, niche realm of films. After Drive he started taking himself too seriously and got jaded that his mainstream efforts died on the vine, and being jaded he couldn't have fun anymore like he did with Bronson.
disclaimer: I liked OGF, TND, and some of TOTDY so I'm not a hater
