>What is the single worst poster for an arthouse or classic /film/ that you've ever seen?
Some might take this take as sacrilegious, but: The original The Shining poster for the theatrical release was pretty terrible. The yellow/black combo doesn't fit the film, neither does the random toddler face have anything to do with anything in the film - unless it's supposed to be Danny, I guess? If so, terrible depiction that also doesn't look anything like the actor.
>>
>>222546637
well this was Bass' original pitch

Ah, yes, so much better ...

I was watching Ex Machina with my normie friend a couple days ago and I thought about Number 12 looks just like you. (Assuming that's the one where you get to choose a pretty face when you turn 16 or whatever the age was.)
>>
How is that supposed to be a toddler lmao? Always thought it was either a black dude or an alien.
>>
>>222546738
the only thing I don't like about it is that it says Saul Bass Archive on the poster. So I can see why they changed it.
>>
>>222546928
Yes, that's the one, it's so fucking sad.

Huge facial features compared to the implied head size. That's what signifies a toddler or at least a small child.
Could be a black alien toddler though.
>>
And do you think is the best Saul Bass poster?

I can't dissect anything about their taste in film from that one post. But if it reflects their personality, I also do pity them a lot. How can one appreciate the beauty in the arts if their soul is ugly and rotten inside?

The film wasn't anymore red/black than it was yellow/black. When I think of The Shining, the one standout colour is unironically white, and what I remember about its grading is mainly the outside and night scenes in blue towards the end.
While the hotel does have its fair share of yellows and reds (and greens as well), the climax is kept mostly in whites, greys and blues. The whole film feels cold and getting colder over time. Warm colours are counterproductive.
>>
>>222547381
100% agreed.
>>
>>222547027
they're fucking horrible
they mass purchase film licenses but take forever to release them and even when it's out it's the most bare-bone release possible that could've been put together in less than a week

>Is Chevy Chase the best part of this movie or should I see the entire thing?
Yeah I'd say he's the best part. A lot of people like Bill Murray who was supposed to play a mute character like Harpo Marx but he decided to improvise lines. AFAIK Chevy improvised as well. Raped Rodney did his best for his first movie and that's that. He's got such a peculiar presence. He's so bouncy and he's built like a chicken.

He's great, you're just being filtered by very expressive "over the top" acting (what you call "corny"), like many before you (mostly americans). Watch Figures In a Landscape.
>>
>>222550695
The QRD is that the larger the silver halide crystals are, the more light sensitive they are (aka a higher iso or "speed" film, thats also why film actually shot at night is grainy). The reason 16mm and 8mm are grainer is that there are physically less crystals on a smaller piece of film so each proportionally captures a larger part of the image when exposed.

>>
>>222551951
Umm no, it's not evil, though you should check yourself first. Most likely, you just have narcissistic solipsism. Did you know narcissists imagine themselves to be the victims when they're actually the victimizers? Even malignant narcissists like El Chapo Guzmán and Hitler imagine themselves to be underdogs, unfairly treated, abused, while they kill others. It's a very strange phenomenon; there once was a case of a woman in the UK that killed men who refused to have sex with her when she was black out drunk because she said they were "sadistic and wanted to humilliate her by rejecting her in such a cold and inhumane way". Crazy shit.

The meaninglessness of life only matters when you're a teenager, when you grow up you realize wellbeing in itself is a meaning and you stop caring about stupid shit like intellectual abstractions or political ideologies. The best meaning in life is having your basic needs covered... everything else is just vanitas vanitatum. You only think about meaninglessness because you're not aware of all of the things you already have which bring you meaning, you have covered your eyes with a blindfold and that "problem" in your head makes you incapable of seeing what has always been there.
>>
>>222552069
>narcissists imagine themselves to be the victims when they're actually the victimizers?
It's not even me specifically who's the victim but large amounts of people. I also don't think it's imagined evil when it's demonstrable. I have no power to victimize someone on anything other than a personal level, but these people who should get got have immense global influence.

When I distract myself with various entertainment I feel at ease until I'm reminded of the suffering and feel guilty for forgetting about it. I can't seem to allow myself to live my own life. Those public figures being domed would indirectly help me feel at ease because of the possibility of lower suffering in the world. I'm on the toilet and I don't feel good about being whiney.
