Apparently they needed four cats for Alien. Because Jones was in a lot of different scenes and had to emote in different ways. You can’t train them, so you just pick the cat for the personality trait you want, so it’ll take less time before you get the shot.

So they had one cat that liked being held, one that wanted to run around exploring, one that was aggressive and would hiss and one that was lazy and just lay still.

All different single cat was all they needed for his smaller cameo in Aliens. So it was a very complicated role. I hope those five cats worked out the royalties situation.
