Or him having the touching encounter with a man dying of cancer at the bridge. In real life you could go 30+ years waging and not have stuff like this happen. In my experience these small moments of personal connection just... don't happen in real life.

I think he was trying his best to live a stoic lifestyle but it was still taking a heavy toll on him. Like if he were fully left alone then he could survive with his simplistic lifestyle but any intrusions of reality into the routine he had made for himself really uncovered that it was built on shaky foundations.

i worked as a janitor but it wasn't in nice places like he cleaned. it was at like vfws where people shit themselves before getting into the toilet or you'd have bloody underwear in the garbage cans. one time a toilet was filmed to the brim with shit after a party. i can't be happy at a job like that.
