The MCU actually did this right. First they did Iron Man, Hulk, and Iron Man 2. Grounded, simple stories contained on Earth. Then they branched out into some cosmic shit with Thor, the first Captain America and Avengers. There's a whole generation of DirectX 8 games suffering from horrible 3D graphics, Gothic, Warcraft 3 and Morrowind being the worst examples of it. This downgrade, compared to the quality of 2D and pre- rendered 3D, was unbelievable.
I was so angry that I stopped to give a damn about new games for years. The last straw was Max Payne 2 with its downgraded graphics and gameplay changed from corridor shooter to arena shooter.
