My Bias My Boss might the least sincere, most cynical kdrama ever made. Devoid of any trace of soul, just a mindless marketing scheme deployed automatically by what seems to be a sentient machine, but actually no, how sad is that there are actually living, breathing people behind it. They come back home after work and kiss their spouse and play with their kids, pretending to be humans.I can't wait for AI to replace those NPC and hallucinate some accidental soul back into those shows.
>>222645051yep you're crying all right. imagine getting so butt blasted that people enjoy a fun fandom related show.

They come back home after work and kiss their spouse and play with their kids, pretending to be humans.because they got triggered by a korean fandom romcom television show existing.

Kek the cuck show killed the thread. Great job Floptits or Shitdick. It's either one of you degenerates.
the subtitling team over at viki have told the suits to frick off they won't engage in hyung erasure.
>>222648328So she holds another man in her heart (obsessed with him mind, body and soul) and yet plays all cute with this one. So much so this poor fool falls for it.
>>222648610Thank you Mr. woman expert and fandom understander for your thoughts.
He's killing kdg again
>>222648661explain to me how posting webms and screenshots from a currently airing kdrama is killing the korean drama general. is is because I have opinions about these shows that are different from yours? what happened to wanting a place where people can discuss various opinions on shows? oh that's right, only if it's done in a way that doesn't offend your fragile sensibilities.
pby schizo isn't people
Cuckoldry is the gist, the soul, the substance of K-Drama. Take our cuckoldry from K-Drama, what’s even left?
fangirling, that's bad, because it's a thing girls do, gross!!
what a doofus>>222648813I wouldn't go that far unnie, plus with that phrasing you're only gonna trigger their melties even more.
>>222648947fuck off I seriously doubt you've never made a post with an image or video without some kind of detailed manifesto like you're expecting from me. the fourth post is commenting on the plot of a korean drama, in the korean drama general. the sixth post is a comment about the subtitles of a korean drama in the korean drama general. the seventh post is expressing disagreement about a posters understanding of a character in a korean drama in the korean drama general. the eighth post is a direct continuation of that disagreement. the tenth post is me trying to be amicable and telling another poster that I don't fully agree with their opinion about korean dramas in the korean drama general. so fuck off asshole are you going to post about korean dramas in the korean drama general or are you going to continue to spew nonsense about posting personalities that you don't like?
>>222648628Nothing I said is incorrect. Pointing out duplicity in kdrama "romance".
>>222649047You don't understand fandom, and you continue to understand any actions that a woman takes in a show in the least charitable way possible. Do you think that fangirling over a boy band member is some kind of serious romantic commitment and that if a woman is doing that she can have no other romantic relationships at all? That's absurd, and similar to the way obsessed fans don't want the idols they're obsessed with to date. What you think is "duplicity" is just the lives of normal people going about their lives, your obsession with purity tests and demanding perfect behavior from all characters at all time is what is actually strange.
melty
She's criminally underrated by kdg
>>222649199Don't think I've seen her in anything.
and I suspect one of the main themes of the show will be about how fandom obsessions aren't really real love and an actual real life romance with a person that you actually know is better. but you're too stupid and too blinded by your hatred of women to care about or understand measly little things like themes or character development arcs.
How we all feel
>>222649290True
>>222649290so are you going to post about korean dramas in the korean drama general or not?
>>222649137I will say the same when a ML does this with 2 FLs. One of the worst offenders is the ML in Do It All Your Way 2002. The only difference is both women knew about the other. He royally pissed me off even though both women accepted it. When kdramas were more ML centric with revolving females it was as distasteful especially when the MLs were abusive and selfish "players".Now many kdrama "romances" are FL centric with a softer touch without abuse. However, calling it choice does not remove the fact two men are lead to believe she is interested in a romance with them.
>>222649316ok and? do all women have to be absolutely certain of what they want all times? do all characters have to have to be certain about every action they take with a single minded and steadfast resolve or else they're bad and the show is bad? I don't know what you want, but it doesn't seem to be stories about real people.
>>222649283>suspectThat gets you in deep shit all the time. You rarely watch any of the kdramas but proclaim yourself an expert and the authority to berate anyone that begs to differ. I'll remind you again that a flood of webms of a particular show does not make you god.

>>222649377because speculating on how a currently airing kdrama will turn out is on topic in the korean drama general. constantly making up nonsense accusations about me and constantly engaging in personality drama is not.>>222649421so because it's based on a webtoon all of the characters should be paragons of virtue and steadfast in their romantic decisions? You're not addressing the point, is a story bad if characters do things that you don't like or personally don't endorse?
>>222649465John you have no real life experience and you are a 40 yo man. You live in a fantasy world created in your head and snippets found on the internet. You are not to be believed nor in any position to preach down to anyone. No one listens to your blather.

This show is the perfect specimen for subtitle analysis because there are three distinct English subtitles being released simultaneously, from Viki, Amazon, and HBO Max. The Amazon release also has Korean softsubs which makes things even easier, usually you have to OCR hardcoded Korean subtitles from some HDTV release. Before even looking at any of the subtitles my assumption that the Viki subs would be the best was based on the fact that this show is specifically about fandom, and who better to subtitle a show about fandom than people literally part of Hallyu fandom (kdrama fansubbing). And it turns out I was correct. The "Ctrl+f oppa" experiment:HBO Max English subtitles: 0 resultsAmazon English subtitles: 0 resultsViki English subtitles: 12 resultsNow I know what my detractors are likely to say, oh you're just fetishizing untranslated words that's not how translation should work. First of all anyone watching a show called My Bias, My Boss in Dangi 4359 knows what oppa means. Second of all I'd be more fine with oppa erasure if they just did a better job, but look at this absolute disaster from the Amazon subtitles:--I mean, Director Lee Chan even came at the end, and it was incredible. What?Whoa, what a surprise. I mean, I thought he was just good-looking, but his personality is great too. Look. He took a picture just with us to congratulate us for joining the company.Chan came? But, um... here at the company, he's Director... Shouldn't you call him Director?--Now look at the Viki subtitles and tell me with a straight face that a certain kind of characterization wasn't absolutely butchered above:--Director Lee showed up at the very end, and his face was seriously hilarious. What?Oh, you scared me. I thought he was just good-looking, but turns out he's funny too. Look at this. He congratulated us on the new job and took a photo with just us!Oppa came?Though shouldn't we call him "Director" now that we're at the company?--1/2
My only oppa related complain with the Viki subtitles is they've been rendering it as Oppa Chan, the order is messed up it's not said that way in Korean or English, it should be Chan Oppa. Oppa Chan makes it sound like it's Japanese.2/2
Two certified kdrama moments (the umbrella scene, the ending scene where Da-reum saves Ha-gi from an incoming motorcycle (the white truck of narrow alleys)), what's not to like?I always forget that for most people shows are region locked to certain platforms. That's another thing I miss about fansubs, they were functionally regionless so everyone watching whatever show were getting the same experience. Now people in three separate parts of the world are getting wildly different subtitles for this show, you can't even expect people to know characters by the same name anymore because two different platforms could romanize the Korean in different ways. (Looking at you MyDramaList for spelling her name Du Na when literally all of the official promotional material and subtitles use Doona.)Anyway, if anyone else is curious this show is being globally distributed by three different platforms:Viki - Americas, Europe, Oceania, MENAHBO Max - 18 Asia-Pacific CountriesAmazon - IndiaSo at least the damage being done by HBO Max isn't as bad as it could be. Still, the fact that they make the translation choices I'm about to show for the region of the world that probably has one of the strongest and oldest Hallyu fandoms makes them all the more baffling.KOREAND.N.X에서 누가 최애였어요?VIKI and AMAZONWho was your bias in DNX?HBO MaxWho was your favorite in D.N.X?Are you freaking kidding me? 최애 is literally in the title of the show, and the official English language title that HBO (and everyone else) is using translates that as 'bias'. Korean specific fandom language is all over this show. Viki sometimes gets a little too creative but at least they're trying to make it sound niche and culturally specific. The Amazon subtitles are a relative middle ground, but the HBO Max subtitles are translating Korean fandom language into generic English.1/2
>>222651778fuck off you stupid piece of shit, do you have nothing better to do than harass and attempt to dox me? I haven't posted that username here so you actively seeking it out is harassment. fuck off.
Some examples:덕통사고 (deoktongsago) / VIKI "fan-crush" / AMAZON "starstruck" / HBO "crash"성덕 (seongdeok) / VIKI "the fan whose dream came true" / AMAZON & HBO "successful fan"최애 (choeae) / VIKI & AMAZON "bias" / HBO "favorite"And then there's the typical oppa erasure and this example shows just how ridiculous the alternative is:둘이 있을 땐 편하게 '오빠'라고 불러도 돼요"When it's just us, you can comfortably call me oppa."VIKI"When it's just us, you can call me oppa."AMAZON"Feel free to call me Chan when we're alone."HBO"You can call me Chan when it's just the two of us."What's so special about just calling him by his name? I guess the implication is she doesn't have to call him Director Lee but using his name instead of oppa completely erases the relationship dynamics at play. 2/2>>222651811what the hell are you talking about?? I wrote this. please stop taking credit for my work!!! please keep it on topic and discuss kdramas!

#HongMinGi's ex-girlfriend "Ms. A" DELETES post alleging abortion demand after accusing actor of avoiding responsibility. Hong Mingi's ex-girlfriend, referred to as Ms. A, has made further allegations against the actor, claiming that he demanded she undergo an abortion after she discovered she was pregnant. A shared a lengthy statement on Instagram Stories on August 19, refuting claims made by Hong Min-gi's side, but subsequently deleted all of her posts. In her statement, A denied that she had stalked Hong Min-gi or repeatedly demanded that they reconcile. She claimed that she only sought an apology and alleged that she had contacted his family after being unable to reach him while dealing with her pregnancy. According to A, she discovered that she was pregnant in July and underwent an abortion alone after allegedly being asked by Hong Min-gi to terminate the pregnancy. She claimed that she has medical records and ultrasound images from the time as evidence.A further alleged that she paid the entire cost of the procedure herself and that Hong Min-gi did not accompany her to the hospital. She also claimed that she continues to experience physical and emotional difficulties following the procedure. A stated that she intends to pursue legal action through her lawyer and rejected the possibility of reaching a settlement with either the actor or his agency.
The latest allegations follow A's earlier claims concerning Hong Min-gi's alleged private conduct, including accusations of verbal abuse, gaslighting, disparaging remarks about women, fans and industry colleagues, and alleged mistreatment of his pet. Hong Min-gi's agency has denied the allegations, stating that several claims do not correspond with the facts known to them. The agency has also accused A of repeatedly visiting the actor's residence and making unilateral contact, announcing plans to pursue civil and criminal action, including over alleged stalking and defamation. A's subsequent deletion of her posts has drawn further attention to the ongoing dispute.2/2
>>222652263I thought abortion was illegal still, which led me to the Wikipedia page, but lol, the phrasing:>In October 2020, the government announced draft legislation that would decriminalize abortion until the 14th week of the pregnancy. In addition, abortions between the 14th and 24th week would be permitted if the pregnancy was due to rape or for social, economic, or health reasons. The last bit makes it sound like there are some people who just "get pregnant for social or economic reasons"
>>222652263Why is she blaming others for her actions? She's the one that chose to have unprotected sex with the guy.

ntl, watch Eyes of Dawn with me
>>222658690this looks fun, actually. is it any good?
>>222658567I just remembered this one. I found it watching Mr. Sunshine.
>>222658705All 36 episodes??
>>222658729No, too many episodes and the episodes are too long, it should be 6 45 minute episodes to be good. And the cameras make it look like a soap opera, CRINGE!!
>>222658759I don't normally watch super long things, but I am enjoying it so far. Every episode almost makes me cry. You were going on about the comfort women the other day and this keeps making me sad!
>>222658774you're only calling things cringe because you're afraid of sincerity
>>222658806Yeah it's really sad. Never again.
>>222658729Yeah it's a great time, very funny especially if you're familiar with dramas of that era. Dramafever subs aren't great though, so I'd probably grab the Kocowa or viki subs if I were to rewatch
>>222658824Oh, already seen it?>>222658839Cool, I'll probably give it a try when I'm done with my current stuff.

>>222658879I have not and I was referencing what Eyes of Dawn is about. I looked up a synopsis on Gemini.
>>222658729I really enjoyed it. Being an older drama doesn't bother me. It gives great insight in how kdramas were and are made. From script writing, casting, funding, directing, PPL placement and ratings.History of the Salaryman also good. Great comedy

Chaebol girl isn't even that unreasonable... I really like her. That's the kind of woman who I see as a gorgeous domme type.
Is The Heirs worth watching for our niece and our queen of tears?
>>222660408jTBC is doing reruns until October, Netflix hasn't announced any of their Sept dramas yet. I think there's only 3 dramas with Sept airdates right now

#HaYoung takes week-long break from SBS 'We Have a Chance' filming amid pro-Japanese collaborator controversy, set to return today. - Exclusive According to OSEN’s report on August 20, the actress took a break from filming last week after reportedly becoming emotional during a shoot and shedding tears. Following the incident, the production team reportedly felt that she needed time to recover and arranged for her to rest at home.Ha Young is said to have spent the past week recovering and has reportedly regained her composure. She is scheduled to return to the set today and resume filming for the remaining portions of the drama. The production team is also said to have been considerate of the actress’s condition while ensuring that filming could continue. Despite the ongoing controversy, Ha Young remains committed to completing the project alongside the cast and crew.Meanwhile, We Have a Chance has already completed nearly 90% of its filming. The production is reportedly aiming to finish the remaining shoot by September at the latest. The controversy surrounding Ha Young’s great-grandfather emerged midway through production and created significant attention around the drama, but filming has continued.

>>222661680No I work in conservation where the women are mostly nerds and/or cougars.
>>222661704She just did? Those shows are on a super tight schedule and budget, but she had a tantrum so they had to stop everything for one week? If she keeps acting like a diva, something tells me she's not gonna last long in kdrama land.
>>222661665All that effort to keep filming only for SBS execs to cut all her scenes in post production lol. thats what you get for being the great grandaughter of ghenghis hitler
Chaebol girl is so scary and hot
>>222661836>>222661843she's just a sweet woman. if you read her note, she apologized and said that she wasn't aware of all the details. who cares what her great grand father did, that has no bearing on her actions.
I hope they don't really ruin her career over this like they ruined seo yeaji's over a nothingburger
>>222661843She'll be fine probably, the masses have already moved on to the next thing. It being a jdrama adaptation is a bit unfortunate though.
>>222661896of course who cares what her ancestor did, but they are maybe like 50 other people involved in that kdrama, including other actresses and actor that now have to re-arranged their schedule or who are going to miss opportunities for work etc.all this just because she can't control her emotions, despite being a fucking actress. Come on, just act like you're Ok when you're not, I do it all the time and no one is the wiser, I'm not an actor btw.
>>222661961yeah i hope so. i think as time goes on and younger generations see people getting dragged through the mud, they'll maybe be more sympathetic or divert their anger on other things. shes also fit as fuck so many guys will be sympathetic to her no matter what.

>>222662231>>222662192My mom is also the one that gets angry anytime a sex scene is added to a k-drama and blames Netflix, though
>>222662264damn why is she like that? were you made in test tube?
>>222662231>>222662264My mom likes K-dramas because there's next to zero sex. I mostly agree just because I only want to see animated couples or real couples have sex.
>>222662467I just think it tends to be unnecessary. I can count on one hand the number of times I felt like a sex or sex-adjacent scene added to the story.
There should be more sexo in kdrama.
>>222662565I agree with it. K-dramas not relying on sex to get attention is why I think their stories are just generally better.
