He was a secondary player the entire time. Genuinely his one purpose was to set Doom up for normies. There is concept art for a PCS they didn't film of Doom killing a Kang variant because they felt it was too early to introduce him at that point. Loki S2 hadn't happened. Then after they pivoted from Kang, Feige came out and said that the Kang Dynasty was going to be the spot where was Doom introduced following a PCS in F4. Doom would pack up Kang, and then they'd move into Doomsday. They just retooled a few things and accelerated the plot.

I don't think I can take Doom seriously with RDJ's goofy vodka accent from the trailer. Compare that to Josh Brolin just talking with his normal voice. The latter is 1000x more intimidating and weighty before he even starts dropping the Thanos lines.

It could be either since apparently the F4 and Doom looking for variants in their world is a part of the film, and that's when they find Steve and his family. Thor encounters him later after returning to Earth with his ship because his daughter is dying, he finds out why when Eternity explains it is also starting to die due the universe coming to an end. They encounter one another, Thor finds out and says they need to go find Loki. That's when they discover the TVA is destroyed, Loki's heart has been cut out, and Morbius was shuffled off to safety by Loki through some unknown means. My point is, that Morbius might mention the Doom's days scenario, which is why he implanted Steve there. My theory is that he knew this was always going to happen, and that it's a Dr. Strange finger wag situation.
