has been gay and shit. I've moved completely to watching 70s movies. Give me your best recommendations. Shaft 1971 is so much better than the 2019 version.

It was ok, but what did it have Depression-era gangsters in it?

Skill issue.

Ever watched Mr. Majestyk? It's a top tier movie where Charles Bronson makes a living out of selling watermelons. I had a great time watching it.
Cockfighter's another great one. Monte Hellman was no slouch.

If you like detective kino, this is a great take on the genre, also Gould is amazing in this movie.
>>
>>222758992
i fucking hate robert altman so fucking much but this is his least bad work and elliot gould is really amazing. somehow there are a ridiculous amount of connections to the devito/schwarzenegger 1988 film "Twins" for reasons I forget. Arnie's in both but the locations are either the same or similar throughout.

Preferably Redux. The theatrical cut doesn't have the gravitas, it feels like quickie exploitation.

Ruined by the degradation and cuckoldry subplot. What the fuck was the point of that? No other explanation than it being Sam Peckinpah's fetish.

I tried watching the Godfather and it was awful. Too clear
>>
If you can tolerate some really grotesque explicit sex scenes, this is one of the best horror films you will ever watch. It captures the feeling of being in a dream much better than any David Lynch film.
>>
Shit there's so much to watch. I think 70s and 90s were the best decades for movies. Maybe we'll get another golden age after this trash decade of wokeness is over.
>>
>>222759534
They butchered those for the 2022 4K release. Only watch the 2008 Coppola Restorations which were scanned in 4K anyway. They were done with loving care.

Here's a great mini documentary regarding those 2008 CR versions:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ak19g0j10-Q

There's a similar documentary on the 2022 Blu-ray called "Full Circle - Preserving The Godfather" in which the restoration workers of the 2022 4K edition mock and laugh at the original colors and praise their modernized look they created for the films. Fucking assholes. It's not on youtube, but if you want to watch it, it's on this torrent: https://www.1337x.to/torrent/5297358/The-Godfather-1972-RM4K-REPACK-1080p-BluRay-x265-HEVC-10bit-AAC-5-1-Tigole-QxR/

>70s and 90s were the best decades for movies
Same with rock music. Psychedelic rock and grundge/alternative/nu metal are peak. The 80s was the flaming homosexual middle brother of the 70s and 90s.

>>222759571

I can second this. There's a weird incest at the end, but otherwise it's a solid jodo-esque psychedelic horror porno.

>>222759619
You should check out the interview with the director. He's a devout Christian who wanted to make a regular horror film but had to make it into a porno to get enough funding. Even his church funded it. The 70s were a fucking wild time.

I only discovered The Warriors for the first time a couple of years ago while watching old Monstervision/Joe Bob's Last Call episodes, and it has become a favorite of mine. It fits in beautifully with the shitty-yet-comfy 70s/80s NYC alongside stuff like Taxi Driver, Maniac, Street Trash, Basket Case, Q: The Winged Serpent, and the opening sequences of a million exploitation movies from Italy.

I'm convinced that The Warriors was the inspiration for beat-em-up games like Double Dragon, Streets of Rage, and Final Fight. The only thing that's missing is the villain gang kidnapping the MC's girlfriend.

This for trippy cerebral 1970s sci-fi. Also the majority of movies released from 1980-82 still count as "70s" movies.

Sergio Leone directed a lot of second unit and it shows. The film is as good as his other westerns.
>>
>>222760478
Fully agree, same with many late 60s movies. Even though it was released in 86, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer feels exactly like a grimy 70s movie.

Is pic related worth watching lads?
>>
>>222760737
Yes. Absolutely. It's a bit sloppy and strange in parts, and it is probably not what you're thinking of going in. Great little treatise on addiction, loss, and isolation with light sci-fi. Bowie is actually great and it's possible it's the best anyone has ever looked on film. Gets weird but it's one of my favorites, Nicolas Roeg is a legend for a reason.

On which note Walkabout deserves to be in this thread. Really anything by Roeg, he's underrated.

Baba Yaga (1973)
Both the T-Cut and the D-Cut are great. It's one of those times (only time?) where a director didn't go full retard with the DC. He just added deleted scene and changed a few scenes order, that's all. No new filmed scenes, no voiceover, etc.
Also, if you enjoy giallo movies, The Red Queen Kill Seven Times is a great gothic giallo mix.
