I came here to talk about this. If this was a formula driven murder mystery, you have a character that is important enough to have speaking lines, but has been held distant from the actual plot going on. Like basically every episode of Elementary.

>>222761952
You were molested as a child. Seek help.

I have never watched any other Green Lantern's movie or tv show so here are my impressions:

1. Hal's actor is solid, but the character is a little weird. Too jaded and cynical, but I like the way he straightforwards through issues. It does give the vibes of somebody that operates at a different level of priorities, and human drama is not that interesting for him.
2. The black dude is ok I guess, but suffers from "stoic serious black man" pose that is prevalent in modern media.
3. Sheriff is solid and the I Know It All bit is intriguing or lazy, hope it get explained later. Yes she is the sheriff and yes she is married to the alien hunter cowboy, but that position can lead to being a puppet, not an X Files detective.
4. Cowboys vs Aliens setup I don't like.
5. The Mystery Box in the town/ranch is a bad bad sign for the series. It almost never pays off.
6. CGI is sparse and ok for a TV show.

Holy projection!
>>
>>222762170
Seems like they're using a lot of exposition to avoid some scenes that would have special effects. I can appreciate them doing that with Hal's backstory, by replacing it with a bar story. After all, the plot is about Nebraska and not about Hal's origin, and he's basically good at telling the story.. What seems odd is that they replaced whatever the manhunters are about with an unseen brain projection. Am I really supposed to assume it's terrible just because John drooled while laying on the floor?

very obviously something happened between 2006 and 2016 that made him like that. His hologram isn't jaded.

> Sheriff is solid and the I Know It All bit is intriguing or lazy, hope it get explained later

we are so used to cops being behind in shows with outside help (like the mentalist) that this seems weird. i don't mind her actually having brains.

>>222762371
In the comics, John is a regular lantern instead of some job applicant. Seems like they just want the audience to know he has the talent for the job.
>>
>>222762405
it's basic writing. the dude who was thrown into the water vs the dude who was trained for this in his whole life. John is more boring, but their opposing worldview/character makes their dynamic more interesting. it doesn't really work when john is alone tho.
>>
>>222761075

I'm not saying he is canonically (honestly don't know enough GL lore) or that he should be, I'm just saying that is what I think they're doing.
>>222762710
idk honestly.
>>
>>222762680
It was only you
>>
>>222762710
Yes. In the comics, Hal is a full blown Gary Stu. He forged his own ring. Conquered death. Slept with a barely legal alien girl without any consequences. And sometimes he can manifest the powers of GL by sheer willpower, without even wearing the ring.
>>
>>222762710
yeah but they made John OP at certain point too over the years. Think he even became a Guardian at some point
>>

>>
>>222762170
>Sheriff is solid and the I Know It All bit is intriguing or lazy
Either she is the manhunter or knows her mother in law is and the whole family is trying to protect her from the other aliens trying to kill her
>>
The less they focus on the mystery side of the plot the better. Just show me adventures.
>>
>>222762981
>trying to protect her
Protecting by letting her roam around town, have sex with strangers, etc. Doesn't make sense.
>>
>>222761659
>why is this hospital completely empty and all of the equipment brand new?
>looks normal to me!
She's full of shit too.
>>
>>222763382
the hospital is for when the alien invasion happens, so they can treat the wounded. she clearly knows his father-in-law is crazy, the question is if she just goes along with it - because he funds hospitals and security and whatnot for the town - ,she is an active member of their militia, or she is the manhunter.

altho my guess is that the manhunter is the secret benefactor and manipulates cowboyman about alien threats, hence the advanced tech. it would fit with the lore the kidnappers said.
>>
>>222763106
She thought the threat was neutralized in episode 1 and wanted to get info from the GL duo about hpw much they knew
>>
Judging by images it looks like a mellow snorefest. Let me know when they wear suits, and have space adventures so I can see Kilowog fight red lanterns alongside Hal and that Sinestro is leading the Sinestro Corps war instead of sitting in some dark cell looking like Pedro Pascal
>>
>>222763659

I think the twist will be that Miss Macon is Sinestro's daughter and thats why she's spying on John for Sinestro. It feels too obvious that she's the manhunter, so unless they just confirm it super early and make us know that its not that big of a deal, I think there is more to her story

I also wonder if Sinestro at this point in the timeline is a yellow lantern or if there's going to be more story progression to create the Yellow Lantern. Like he needs Hal to succumb to the fear he's trying to build up to be the power source for his new corps and that will start after the end of this season
>>
>>222763996
yeah but that was retconned to be an alien parasite
>>
>>222764091
Everyone still gave him shit for it. He was rejected and shunned by the GLC. Only John, Guy, and Kyle stood up for him.
>>
>>222764066
Wait I did just realize that Parallax IS the power source in the comics for the yellow lantern corps, so Sinestro isn't a yellow lantern as of now.

So I'm definitely right, Miss Macon is spying on Hal and John and Sinestro is using that information against Hal to turn him into Parallax
>>
so is martian manhunter is the same as this manhunter or same species but different individual? is the martian one an offshoot of their species? they destroyed mars civilization but left some children behind?
>>
>>222764876
No. Martian Manhunter is just his superhero name. He's a Martian from Mars. Manhunters are synthetic lifeforms created by the Guardians of Oa to police the universe.

>>
>>222762258
>I can appreciate them doing that with Hal's backstory, by replacing it with a bar story.
This seemed very intentional to me. John called bullshit on Hal's version of the story, I suspect we'll see a flashback later on that's the true version of events
>After all, the plot is about Nebraska and not about Hal's origin
It actually is about Hal's origin, to a degree at least. Remember, he suspects whatever is going on is tied to the fact Abin Sur crash landed in Nebraska all those years ago.

>>222762710
I think it varies somewhat. IIRC John had some super strong "he can even make constructs without the ring!" power up at some point in the past, and Kyle had the whole "only Green Lantern in the entire corps" thing for a time, and also the "look he can wield the entire emotional spectrum and be the white lantern!" thing. I'm a secondary though, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.
>>
>>222765319
They really should have just given Gunn Green Lantern or Legion of Superheroes to go wild with instead of Superman.

You need to care about a lot of superheroes and also have them die for blackest night to really work, and still have more superheroes (that people care about) afterwards. And you'd need GL to be an audience favourite. It could work across multiple TV shows I think, but for a mostly cinematic/movie universe that is a very long, very expensive bet to hedge
>>
>>222764937
Then maybe dont post in a show based on one
>>
>>222765529
It's just a little bulky especially in the shoulder area with the weird armor design but when they show it in a full body shot like when he was walking in the prison it actually has a nice silhouette. His ass looks pretty good in it too, very comic accurate.
>>
>>222765575
Infinity War was a long, expensive bet to hedge also. For the first two phases the only MCU movies that made serious money were Iron Man and the two Avengers movies.
>>
>>222765194
You'll get one scene where it's him in that form and then he'll shapeshift into a human for the rest of the series.
>>
>>222765319
He is an executive producer in this though
>>
>>222765644
yeah but
>infinity war made a lot of money after 8 years of build up.
>we know now the formula! let's do it in 3 years! we can do 2 infinity wars in 8 years! double money!
>>
>>222765684
Gotta start somewhere. WB's problem for the past decade is that they haven't set up anything and just keep trying to force some epic event that no one cares about. Well, you've got a show now that's introducing a ton of DC lore that could end up giving you the event you always wanted to compete with the MCU. Not saying Blackest Night is going to come out anytime soon, but this stuff could come in handy in the future.
>>
>>222765644
>Infinity War was a long, expensive bet to hedge also.
That's true, but also it needed less "direct" build-up, and character death is less essential. You'd need to somehow tie in the lantern mythos across all the different movies and shows, so that when blackest night hits people that didn't specifically watch Lanterns aren't utterly lost (infinity stones didn't really have that issue because you could throw them in any MCU movie as a "powerful artifact" and call it a day). And you'd need core characters to die preferably before blackest night starts, because you probably want their deaths to last longer than "back next movie" when the entire event is about death.

It's not impossible, but I definitely think it's a harder undertaking with an audience less forgiving about mistakes.
>>
>>222765088
you have to be a little more specific. No one saw that besides you
>>
>>222764937
How I felt reading Lanterns comics desu. Just nonsense hyped up by nerds. But bro Kilowog and Sinestro are so cool, fuck off they're glupshitto's.
>>
>>222765099
Don't forget Alan Scott, who isn't a Lantern for some reason. Comics are dumb.
>>
>>222765319
If this was a Gunn show he would mock the entire concept of a talking cat with powers and Hal would creat constructs of giant dildos while fighting.
>>
Adding all the rainbow colours kinda killed any uniqueness about being a green lantern.
>>
>>222766516
Being a Green Lantern was never unique. There's a million Green Lanterns in the Corp. And even being a human Green Lantern stopped being unique in the 80s.
>>
>>222766516
Always thought the concept of Green Lanterns was cool, but it was wasted on them constantly fighting against other color dudes in spandex with identical powers.
