>>

I rated it 9/10 when I saw it at the time. It would be condemned somewhere like here, because it's too accessible, too melodramatic, too polished. But as comforting escapist fantasy, a way to forget about this gay life for 2 hours, you can't do much better.

>>
>>
>>222763624
so? Godard made a Cannon film
>>
>>222763503
It's weird. It forces a romance between the leads despite not bothering to develop their relationship. I can't fathom how it works for anyone. There's nothing going on between the leads for the longest time and then suddenly they're in love and you're just supposed to accept it out of nowhere.
>>
>>
>>222763674
Imo, it's just boring teenage romance slop, you'd be better off playing some old Disney shit like Dumbo to them lol
>>
>>222763674
It's more for 16 year old girls.
There's a scene of the main guy (while he's in the girl's body) groping his/her tiddies. It's not explicit, probably will just make kids laugh, but be aware of it.
>>

>>
>>222763795
No. Not at all. Far from it. There is zero romance since they're separated all the time. All we see is a few text messages, and they're quite dull. Their relationship is not developed.
>>
>>222763684
Bukowski's Hollywood is a cool book about Cannon in an indirect way.
>>
Good animation films for children is a pretty dire niche. You have Ghibli, Flow, Coraline, and that's pretty much it I guess. Almost none of them ditch the over-the-top magical settings and try to tell a truly human story that can educate and resonate with children, it's all braindead fantasy slop.
>>
>>222763941
Anything other than fantasy or sci-fi and 99% of kids under 10 refuse to watch it.

A stylishly directed samurai revenge joint, but I will never understand the gigantic praise many give it, like it's one of the greatest movies ever. I thought it was very good, but nowhere near that special. The drama itself was fine, nothing earth-shattering, and Kobayashi's style shines stronger in some of his other movies. I guess people love the movie mostly for just how cool it is, and at least half of that is thanks to Nakadai's performance. The rule of cool goes a long way.

I find it very distracing when the focal length constantly changes from shot to shot. It makes the director/cinematographer seem very indecisive and unsure. Of course, it's perfectly fine and expected to change the focal length when needed for one reason or another, but there should be some artistic consistency in how they're used. When used with care, they're one of the most effective tools in setting a visual style. Sloppy use of focal lengths just reminds me of bad student shorts. Mad respect to homies to stick to one focal length for an entire film. Bless Ozu.

Imagine hanging out with Catunc while his wife and kids are outta town. He grills us hamburgers with pineapple and bluecheese. He shows off his movie collection and with excitement I go "oh that's a great film" when he pulls out something I like. He gestures me to an armchair and busts out two Glencairns. He opens his locked liquor cabinet and pours us both a dram of Lagavulin 16. He fiddles with his hi-fi and we settle in our respective armchairs listening to The Dark Side of The Moon. He looks proud sipping his scotch when I'm impressed by the sound quality.

I need to listen to Soft Machine finally. I'm gonna have a reverse situation where I actually listened to solo Robert Wyatt works and enjoyed them a lot (especially Rock Bottom) and only after this I will be "discovering" Soft Machine.

Huh, didn’t expect that name to pop up in the snobby zoomzoom thread. I’m pissed off at YouTube for still copyright striking the entire Alive in Paris 1970 concert after all these years, now THAT was truly kino

>"Unfortunately, this historically backgrounded Technicolor 'whodunit' ... has been weakened by a lamentably uneven script and, incredibly, by the tasteless, slipshod direction of multiple Oscar winner John Ford. Someone, certainly, should have reminded Ford that the spectacle of a man fighting for his life against racial prejudice, unjust accusation and a firebrand prosecutor was hardly a situation for comedy, especially the sort of comedy injected by Billie Burke and the officers of the court-martial."[8]

Can't pick just one but I think Blue by Derek Jarman is the perfect encapsulation of his artistry, an intensely personal testament to his anxieties and sufferings that challenges the viewer with surreal prose intertwining with the still frame of a finely calculated shade of blue.

>Bonus
Also difficult to pick just one, but Barry Lyndon's ending is an incredible retooling from the literary form to the cinematic one, possessing a gaze infused with unrelenting pathos that makes you feel every iota of the loss of the titular character.

Where does /film/ stand on TV calibration? Do you think a TV should be calibrated to the D65 white point, or should the calibrator use an offset so the TV perceptually matches a reference monitor despite not matching the standard by the objective measurements? This was an issue recently where Sony's Bravia 8 II was getting low scores for out of the box accuracy compared to the top TVs Samsung and LG released that year, but some argued that Sony's philosophy was to make it so the TV perceptually was closer to what their reference monitors actually looked like, and that the traditional D65 white point doesn't account for how the human eye perceives light differently from different types of sources.

they dont. most are watching /films/ on a computer monitor from 2014

imo just follow an online tutorial and set it the way you think looks the best, then just blast film maker mode or whatever equivalent and youre g2g

Same, although I got a new laptop last year and the screen seems a lot better; previously the blacks would always be very "lighted" and tihs new one the blacks look really proper black, devoid of light, which makes everything look way nicer. I don't know why that is though i'm not a tech head

With the money I'd waste on an expensive setup, I can buy myself like 30 whores, a Big Mac and 3 Dom Pérignon bottles and I will enjoy the screening of Collateral alongside my girls much more than a expensive golden graphene cable to get 12% better shades in black and white films such as Gone With the Wind.
